Approximately 1 to 2 women every week are murdered by a partner or ex-partner in Canada3

assault in BC during the year 20051

That is around 28 incidents EVERY day

Victims of VAW in 2008 in BC

Victims of VAW in 2008 in BCA 17-year-old female was stabbed to death by

her boyfriend on May 18, 2008, in Fort St. John, BC. The young woman was suppose to graduate from Ross Sheppard High School one week after she was killed.

Victims of VAW in 2008 in BCA 78-year-old woman was doused in gas and

set on fire on August 1, 2008, in Blackpool, BC. She suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns on 40 to 50% of her body. Accused is a 51-year-old male.

Three children aged 10, 8, and 5 were found dead by their mother on April 6, 2008, in Merritt, BC. The suspect is their own father.

Victims of VAW in 2008 in BCA 28-year old mother and her 2-year old son

were found dead on December 17, 2008, in Kelowna, BC. The mother’s boyfriend is being charged with second-degree murder in both cases.

A female died on June 6, 2008, in Abbotsford, BC, after being shot by her husband.

Victims of VAW in 2008 in BCA 45-year-old mother and her 23-year-old

daughter were shot by their husband/father on August 19, 2008, in Surrey, BC. The mother died at the scene, while her daughter survived and was taken to a hospital. The mother is also leaving behind her 12-year-old son.
