Abstract: (Your abstract must use Normal style and must fit in this box. Your abstract should be no longer than 500 words. The box will ‘expand’ over 2 pages as you add text/diagrams into it.)

These instructions provide you with guidelines for preparing your abstracts for The 16th International Conference on Inorganic Membranes (ICIM 16). The abstract should give a clear indication of the objectives, scope, and results of your research work. The paper submitted to ICIM 16 should be written in English. Your abstract should be no longer than 500 words. The box will ‘expand’ over 2 pages as you add text/diagrams into it. Times New Roman is specified. If it is not available on your word processor, please use the font closest in appearance to Times New Roman. Type the abstract in 10-point Times New Roman, single-spaced. Do NOT use double-spacing. Make sure your text is fully justified—that is, flush left and flush right. Please do not place any additional blank lines between paragraphs.

Figure and Tables—All figures should be consecutively numbered, and should be horizontally centered across the page, with their captions placed centered below the figure. Each figure should be placed as close as possible to where the figure is first mentioned in the text. There is no restriction on the type and size of the font to be used in figures. Use the abbreviation “Fig.” even at the beginning of a sentence. Refer to Fig. 1 for guidance. Figure headings should be in Times New Roman font, point size 8. If your figure has two parts, include the labels “(a)” and “(b)” as part of the artwork.

Units—Use either SI (MKS) or CGS as primary units. (SI units are strongly encouraged.). For example, write “15 Kg/cm2.” An exception is when English units are used as identifiers in trade, such as “3½ in disk drive.” Avoid combining SI and CGS units. This often leads to confusion because equations do not balance dimensionally. If you must use mixed units, clearly state the units for each quantity in an equation. Use the center dot to separate compound units, e.g., “Kg·m2.” If you are using Word, use either the Microsoft Equation Editor or the MathType add-on (http://www.mathtype.com) for equations in your paper (Insert | Object | Create New | Microsoft Equation or MathType Equation). “Float over text” should not be selected.

Math and equations—Number equations consecutively with equation numbers in parentheses flush with the right margin, as in (1). First use the equation editor to create the equation. Then select the “Equation” markup style. Press the tab key and write the equation number in parentheses. To make your equations more compact, you may use the solidus ( / ), the exp function, or appropriate exponents. Use parentheses to avoid ambiguities in denominators. Punctuate equations when they are part of a sentence, as in

(1)

Be sure that the symbols in your equation have been defined before the equation appears or immediately following. Refer to “Eq. (1),” not “(1)” or “equation (1),” except at the beginning of a sentence: “Equation (1) is ... .”

References—Number citations consecutively in square brackets [1]. The sentence punctuation follows the brackets [2]. Multiple references [1], [2] and [3] are each numbered with separate brackets [1-3]. In sentences, refer simply to the reference number, as in [3]. Do not use “Ref. [3]” or “reference [3]” except at the beginning of a sentence: “Reference [3] shows ... .” The references should be written at the end of your document. All publications cited in the text should be presented in a list of references, arranged alphabetically first and then further sorted chronologically if necessary. More than one reference from the same author(s) in the same year must be identified by the letters "a", "b", "c", etc., placed after the year of publication. Journal titles should be cited in abbreviation.
