YOUNG ADULTS. The Veritas Faith
Group will meet Monday, March 2
for discussion about Lent, spiritual
growth, and Catholic faith. Further
details TBA. We will meet in the
YYAM Center at 7 pm.
LENTEN LITURGY
During Lent, we try to reflect the seriousness of the season by
celebrating the liturgy more simply. The Church directs us, for
example, to use instruments less and to chant acapella. We do
not sing the Gloria in Lent, and Alleluia disappears for Lent as
well. We also do not have flowers in church during Lent. The
vestments are a more somber purple color. These are all
external signs of the need for internal simplification.
We should do the same sort of simplification in our personal lives during Lent.
This is the reason for giving up something for Lent. If we keep a good and
simple Lent, Easter will mean more to us, just as we will appreciate the joyous
music, flowers, and vestments of Easter after the somberness of the Lenten
liturgies.
Faithfully,
Fr. Baker

apreciados. El monto donado puede ser
ilimitado. La intención es hacer que la
donación a la despensa de alimentos sea
menos difícil y ayudar a mantener los estantes
abastecidos.¡Gracias por su continuo apoyo a
este ministerio!

MINISTERIO HISPANO
LITURGIA CUARESMAL
Fielmente,
el P. Baker

PARISH COMMUNITY & OUTREACH
SAINT ROSE FOOD PANTRY
The Saint Rose Food Pantry is open on
Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 am until 12
pm and is located in Room 122, near the back
of the church. The Food Pantry is available to
anyone in our Parish and/or community who
is having difficulty providing food for his/her
family. If there is anyone who needs food and
is unable to visit the Food Pantry during
operating hours, please call the church office
at 615-893-1843 so that other arrangements
may be made.
A new approach to our donation process
is being implemented on a trial basis in
hopes that it will be easier for parishioners
to participate. Each month will consist of
two food items requested.
For the month of March, we are asking
each family to donate a jar of peanut
butter or one can of tuna to the Food
Pantry. Hopefully, when attending mass, it
will be easy to remember and easy to carry
just one can and place it in the brown wooden
box which is located on the left side of the
narthex. Of course, any and all non
perishable food items are greatly appreciated.
The donated amount can be unlimited. The
intent is to make donating to the Food Pantry
less difficult and to help keep the shelves
stocked.
Thank you for your continued support of this
ministry!
OUR MISSION IS TO ASSIST

HAITI MISSION MINISTRY: The school Notre Dame de la Merci remains in session. In fact, Karnaval (Kreyol
language) was not organized this year because of the threat it could bring to the roads and the nearby city of
Cap-Haitien. Usually the Ministry of Education fixes an assessment each December, April and June. It was
important that the children had not been in school for two months because of civil unrest. So, the first
assessment was fixed for February 17-21. Some grade levels began to hold classes on Saturdays in January
to make up lessons missed. The principal Vilius Borne prepared the tests for each grade. He wrote the
questions for each teacher. In grades 1-4, there are 2 classes each. In grades 5 and 6, there is one class
each. Each and every day there were classes, the children were fed a nutritious meal. This was repeated
during those extra sessions on Saturdays. Vilius will let us know how the children progressed in their school
work even though the academic year was seriously interrupted. Saturday classes will continue throughout
Lent to recover the time needed to cover the required material. Of course, we will continue to provide meals
each day. Teachers may also choose to eat the same meals with the children. This is our 17
th
year of serving
our brothers and sisters at the Parish Notre Dame de la Merci. We continue to ask for your prayers that we be
good stewards of your generous donations.
