DOMESTIC CHURCH

I think that the Fourth of July weekend is a good time to think
about the gift of being together as family. I certainly have some
happy memories of being together with my family during this
holiday whenI was growing up. We really need more time and
experiences together as family. One good thing that I can say
about the pandemic and quarantineis that we have had more
time to be together. Perhaps we have had the opportunity to
share family meals together moreoften. I have been happy to see families
playing together. I also hope that ourfamilies have been praying together more
often as well.

The Domestic Church of the family is the ordinary way that we come to faith
and grow in it. Faith takes time and attention on the part of families. We should
look for ways to experience our faith and to share it with one another at home.
Family prayer is one of the best ways to do this. Family prayer is simply a family
conversation that includes God! We bring God into the conversation in just the
same way we would draw one another into conversation. We can thank God for
blessings. We can tell God and one another that we are sorry for offenses. We
can ask God for needs that are on our hearts, for ourselves and others. And just
like in family life, we can communicate the most important thing, which is that
we love God! Maybe Dad could start the conversation, and then everyone joins
in. We come to recognize God in our lives, our homes, and our families in this
very natural way.

SAINT MARTIN DE PORRES, PRAY FOR US!
In these days when we see a lot of statues being pulled down, let's put one up:
a statue of Saint Martin de Porres! I have had it in my mind for some time that a
statue of Saint Martin de Porres would be very appropriate for our Church of
Saint Rose of Lima. You see, they were contemporaries in Lima and both
members of the Dominican Order. As we know from praying our Novena for an
End to Racism, Saint Martin was of mixed racial background and personally
suffered from racism, even within the Church. A statue of Saint Martin would
add another aspect of the universality of the Church to the images we have in
our parish.

I am in consultation with a sculptor who has done amazing works for parishes in
our diocese. I will soon be able to pass on her vision for the statue. Please let
me know if you would like to help with this project!

IGLESIA DOMESTICA

a familias jugando juntas.

estatuas siendo derribadas, pongamos
una: ¡una estatua de San Martín de
Porres! Hace tiempo que tengo en
mente que una estatua de San Martín
de Porres sería muy apropiada para
nuestra Iglesia de Santa Rosa de
Lima. Vea, Santa Rosa y San Martín
eran contemporáneos en Lima y
ambos eran miembros de la Orden
Dominicana.
Una
estatua de San Martín agregaría otro
aspecto de la universalidad de la
Iglesia a las imágenes que tenemos en
nuestra parroquia.

Estoy en consulta con un escultor que
ha realizado obras increíbles para
parroquias en nuestra diócesis. Pronto
podré transmitir su visión de la estatua.
¡Avíseme si desea ayudar con este
proyecto!

JOURNEY HOME MEAL PREPARATION
Did you know that the Saint Rose Outreach Ministry has been partnering with The Journey Home
for the past two years to prepare meals for 130 homeless people in Murfreesboro? This is all
thanks to the generous volunteers of our ministry and the financial support of the Knights of
Columbus and parishioners.
The Journey Home is a place that helps the homeless and disadvantaged residents of
Rutherford County. They provide three meals a day, every day to the people of Rutherford
County that are struggling. Their goal is not only to provide for individuals in need, but to get
them jobs and in stable environments.
Our ministry prepares meals for the Journey Home almost monthly, usually the last Tuesday or
Thursday of the month. The following remaining dates are the 2020 dates that we will be
cooking lunch for the people at The Journey Home: Tuesday - 6/30, Thursday - 7/30, Tuesday -
9/29, Thursday - 10/29, Thursday – 12/31.
If you feel called to assist, please join us on one of the dates from 9:00-11:30am at The Journey
Home: 308 W. Castle St., Murfreesboro, TN 37129. If you have any questions or would like to
