Fifth Sunday of Lent – 29 March 2020 Ezekiel 37:12-14. Psalm 130:1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8.
Romans 8:8-11. John 11:1-45 Dying with Christ; Dying to Self. Even when his friends are disappointed with him and his disciples misunderstand him, Jesus is clear and resolute. No one’s death is everlasting. We believe that just as Baptism graces us with new life in Christ, physical death transmits us to newer life with God for ever. What “death” is sucking the life out of me? What will I do about it? What will I do, as one loved by Christ beyond all measure, for those in need of mercy works? How will I be a sign of Christ-filled life for the elect preparing for Easter Baptism?

EASTER FLOWER MEMORIAL
This year you are invited to contribute to the Church’s Easter flowers, greenery, and decorations through a memorial gift. Please use the specially designed envelope for this memorial found on the brown table in the Narthex. If you decide to use the Easter flower envelope that was in your mailed packet, you may include a short note inside the envelope with the name(s) of those you would like memorialized, or write their names on the front of the envelope. Please print legibly, as to not misspell any names. For each deceased person (or couple) you would like remembered, we suggest an offering of $5 or more. Please drop the envelope into the collection basket or turn it into the office no later than Monday, April 13. Names cannot be added after that date. The names of all those memorialized will be listed in the bulletin the weekend after Easter, which is Divine Mercy Sunday.

Lenten Family Activity Set out a glass jar for each family member. Determine, as a family, which behavior will correspond with each jellybean color. Each day family members earn a jellybean of any color by doing the specific behaviors assigned to each jelly bean color. Don’t eat the jellybeans until Easter! White jellybeans cannot be earned as these represented the Grace of Christ, which is a gift not earned ourselves, rather it is God’s gift to us. This is how you may wish to interpret each color. • Red is for the blood Christ gave (each morning choose something to sacrifice that day to earn the red jellybean. It had to be something they would have had the opportunity to have or do on that day). • Green is for the palm's cool shade (green jellybeans were earned for good deeds. It was a good deed to provide shade for Jesus with the palm). • Yellow is for God's light so bright (yellow jellybeans were earned for sharing God's light through kindness to others). • Orange is for praying together (orange jellybeans were earned for attentive behavior and for each time families pray together. • White is for the Grace of Christ (these cannot be earned, as mentioned above). • Purple is for His days of sorrow (earned these through apologizing to anyone we hurt with our words or deeds that day). • Pink is for each new tomorrow (pink jellybeans were earned when we forgave those who apologized to us for hurtful behavior). These “Lenten behaviors” will become part of your family routine. Families that pray together, stay together.

Jesus Christ, you traveled through towns and villages “curing every disease and illness.” At your command, the sick were made well. Come to our aid now, in the midst of the global spread of the coronavirus, that we may experience your healing love. Heal those who are sick with the virus. May they regain their strength and health through quality medical care. Heal us from our fear, which prevents nations from working together and neighbors from helping one another. Heal us from our pride, which can make us claim invulnerability to a disease that knows no borders. ~Amen

CCW FEBRUARY MEETING
The proceeds from the February bake sale were donated to
Chris Finnegan, a parishioner who has ALS and lost her
husband last year. We discussed Santa’s Breakfast. The
breakdown for the cost of the raffle baskets and whether it
generated a profit or loss. A big thank you to all the
volunteers and the Knights for making it a success. The
annual children’s Easter Party will not be held this year as
the Pastor has deemed it inappropriate to have a party for
children during lent. Ideas were presented of things we
might do for Mother’s and Father’s Day. Our meetings are
held the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 7:00 in the Narthex
and all women are invited to attend.
Covid-19: Churches around the world fight to prevent the spread of the coronavirus Religious leaders around the world adhere to government plans to contain the spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus. Many churches have been forced to suspend public Masses and are moving liturgical celebrations online. By Francesca Merlo To help contain the spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus, Churches around the world are doing all they can to avoid large gatherings while still allowing the faithful to pray together, even if from a physical distance. Pope Francis provided the first example when he announced on March 7th that he would not be appearing from the win-dow of his study to recite his Sunday Angelus with pilgrims in St Peter’s Square. Instead, he gave his catechesis from the Library of the Apostolic Palace, and live-streamed it to the world. Others follow Pope Francis' example Shortly after, Churches all across Italy, the worst-hit European Nation, cancelled all public Masses. As the virus spread, the Catholic Church in France did the same. In Spain, where the government is closely mirroring Italy’s prevention measures, Bishops have responded to the crisis by publishing links to television channels and radio stations on which Masses can be attended in an attempt to keep people at home.St Patrick’s Day celebrations in Ireland have been suspended and church’s around the country will limit them-selves to sounding their bells to honour and celebrate their patron Saint. Austria, Germany, Belgium and several other EU countries have also suspended all their Sunday Masses, with the Dutch Diocese of Haarlem-Amsterdam holding a nine-day novena to pray for an end to the pandemic. Latin America's response-In Latin America, Puerto Rico announced the closure of its churches on March 15th.That was just one day after Peru’s government declared a state of emergency, putting a stop to all religious services with a congregation. But many Peruvi-an dioceses had already implemented stringent measures. A priest from the capital, Lima, was the first person to be hos-pitalized with Covid-19, so the Bishops acted quickly to avoid further contagion. In Nicaragua, the Bishops released a statement expressing their concern over what they called the country’s “weak healthcare system”. They urged the Nica-raguan faithful not to take part physically in liturgical celebrations but rather to do so from their homes, through the media. One message So the Church around the world – from Pope Francis on down the hierar-chy – is proclaiming the same message to halt the spread of the corona-virus: nourish your spiritual life with Mass and prayer, but do it from home. Reflections from Father Joe
Please check our website www.omgccc.org or our Facebook page to see a video posted by
Father Joe as he shares some reflections with us.
During this time of quarantine it is natural to
feel some isolation, anxiety and perhaps depression.
Technology, used for the right reasons can
keep us connected. Therefore, we encourage you to continue our Lenten practices at home
by streaming Mass, praying, fasting, and Almsgiving. We have included some prayers that you might like to pray and let us keep the
faith as we move toward Palm Sunday and Holy Week.
We will continue to stay in touch via our Website, Facebook and email blasts.
Act of Faith O my God, I firmly believe that you are one God in three divine Persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. I believe that your divine son became man, died for our sins, and that he will come to judge the living and the dead. I be-lieve these and all the truths which the holy Catholic Church teaches, because you who have revealed them, who can neither deceive nor be deceived.
A Healing Prayer Lord, You invite all who are burdened to come to You. Allow your healing hand to heal me. Touch my soul with Your compassion for others. Touch my heart with Your courage and infinite love for all. Touch my mind with Your wisdom, that my mouth may always proclaim Your praise. Teach me to reach out to You in my need, and help me to lead others to You by my example. Most lov-ing Heart of Jesus, bring me health in body and spirit that I may serve You with all my strength. Touch gently this life which You have created, now and forever. Amen.
A Prayer for Trust O Christ Jesus, when all is darkness and we feel our weakness and helplessness, give us the sense of Your presence, Your love, and Your strength. Help us to have perfect trust in Your protecting love and strength-ening power, so that nothing may frighten or worry us, for, living close to You, we shall see Your hand, Your purpose, Your will through all things.
A Prayer For Lent
O gracious Master, infuse in our hearts the spotless light of Your Divine Wisdom and open the eyes of our mind that we may understand the teachings of Your Gospel. Instill in us also the fear of Your blessed com-mandments, so that having curbed all carnal desires, we may lead a spiritual life, both thinking and doing everything to please You. For You, O Christ, our God, are the enlight-enment of our souls and bod-ies; and to You we render glory, together with Your eternal Father, and with Your all holy, life-creating Spirit, now and ever, and forever.
