The new California promises big adventures from every angle. The

new, innovative design lends the defined shape of the travel and

leisure vehicle a distinctive appearance. New head and tail lights

available with high-efficiency LEDs on request turn every journey

into an adventure. And with the new California Coast, which has a

fully functional onboard kitchenette in White Wood, you can

now choose from among three equipment lines for the California

that suits you best.

Comfort mattress Sink/stove kitchen unit

Four standard seats and a fully functional kitchenette1) provide extra comfort while on

the road. There is an unimpeded walkway between the cockpit and the living area. The

seats, each with two armrests, can swivelled up to 180 degrees when the vehicle is at a

standstill for a more social seating arrangement.2) When night falls, the new California can

be transformed with just a few adjustments into a bedroom with up to four beds: two in

the lower level on the folded 2-seater bench and another two in the upper level on the

slatted bed frame with the foam mattress beneath the standard pop-up roof.

In the new California, the way is already the goal. The high-quality interior with the new

comfort dash panel1) offers more than you would expect. The new radio and navigation

systems with intuitive touchscreen display can be operated via the buttons of the leather-

trim multifunction steering wheel2).

Particularly innovative are the new infotainment systems: With Car-Net App Connect3),4)

selected apps from your smartphone are mirrored on the radio or navigation system display.

Adding to the driving comfort are the numerous mobile online services of Car-Net Guide &

Inform5). With the new Volkswagen Media Control6) you can turn your smartphone or tablet

into a remote control for the radio or navigation system. The new electronic voice amplifi-

cation3) makes it easier to communicate with passengers in the rear compartment. Meanwhile,

thanks to the new Comfort mobile phone interface7) your smartphone will always have

Advanced driver assistance systems, with early detection of critical situations.

Advanced driver assistance systems aid the

driver in the event of critical situations

by being able to temporarily assume brake

and engine control.

Driver alert system. Uses visual and acoustic

warning signals to recommend that the driver

takes a break as soon as it registers driving

behaviour that indicates tiredness.1), 2)

Brake assist system. Registers the speed at

which the brake pedal is pressed. During

a reflexive or emergency braking action, it

ensures that full brake pressure is built up

more quickly.3)

Rear View reversing camera. Makes

parking easier by showing an image of the

area to the rear of the vehicle on the radio4)

or navigation systems display. Additional static

guidelines aid the parking process.5)

ParkPilot. Audible signals warn the driver of

obstacles to the rear and front of the vehicle,

and also indicate the distance to any ob stacles

visually in the display.4), 5)

Adaptive Cruise Control ACC. Automatically

adapts the speed relative to the vehicle dri-

ving ahead and maintains the distance preset

by the driver. At the same time, it remains

within the set speed.1), 5) Already includes the

Front Assist ambient traffic monitoring sys-

tem.

system with City Emergency Braking

System6). Uses a radar system to detect situ-

ations where the distance to the vehicle in

front is critical, and reduces the vehicles stop-

ping distance. In dangerous situations, the

system alerts the driver by means of visual

and acoustic signals and with a warning jolt

of the brakes.

Side Assist lane change assistant.

A warning signal is displayed in the exterior

mirror1) as soon as one of the sensors

detects a vehicle in the blind spot during a

lane change.5)

Automatic Post-Collision Braking System.

Triggers braking after a collision, with the

aim of preventing secondary collisions. The

Automatic Post-Collision Braking System

activates when two independent sensors de-

tect an accident. After a short delay, the

vehicle begins a phased braking action down

to 10 km/h, during which the driver can

take over at any time.1), 3)

High-beam assistant Light Assist. Auto-

matically dips the headlights for oncoming

vehicles or vehicles travelling ahead before

they are dazzled. Above 60 km/h and in

complete darkness, the system automatically

switches on the main-beam headlights.5)

Fog lights with integrated static cornering

light. Ensures optimal visibility in poor

weather conditions. The headlight nearest

to the corner illuminates the roadside

when turning.1), 7)

The newest generation of engines provides you with an engine with particularly

low fuel consumption and maximum driving pleasure. As a result, there is a lower

average consumption of 6.3 l/100 km1), 2) with average CO2 emissions of

164 g/km1), 2). Naturally, the new TDI engines comply with the Euro 6 emissions

standard. Additional engines will be introduced at a later date.

BlueMotion Technology.

The new generation of TDI engines compliant with the Euro 6

emission standard are all supplied with BlueMotion Technology

as standard. This includes: a start-stop system, brake energy

regeneration and roll resistance-optimised tyres.

DCC adaptive chassis control.

For enhanced vehicle handling, adaptive chassis control (DCC)

makes it possible to adjust the running gear to a NORMAL,

SPORTY or COMFORTABLE tuning at the touch of a button.
