It was started in 1997 by acquiring the 67.5MW captive power plant from TATA STEEL. Initially it started with single unit of 67.5MW, but keeping in view the modernization and rapid industrial development of JHARKHAND in general & TATA STEEL in particular , two more units were setup in 2001 & 2002 respectively .In September 2005 one more unit was setup into keep with the growing demand for power from the industries in Jamshedpur.

TOTAL GENERATION:- 547.5mw UNIT 1(1997):- 67.5MW UNIT 2(2001):- 120MW UNIT 3(2002):- 120MW UNIT 4(2005):- 120MW UNIT 5(2009):- 120MW

A modern pulverized coal-fired electricity generation facility uses the most commonly employed Rankine-based thermodynamic cycle . steam at desired pressure , temperature and mass flow is produced in a steam generator & expanded through a turbine generator . The exhaust steam is then condensed in a condenser & the liquid is used again in the steam generator.

Burning of pulverized coal in the furnace results in the generation of large quantity of ash . This ash constitutes of 80% fly ash and 20% bottom ash. Fly ash is one of the residues generated in combustion, and comprises the fine particles that rise with the flue gases.

Dense phase pneumatic

system

•Conveying speed is low. •Wear and tear is minimum.

Free movement space is limited below ESP area

2.Vacuum type

pneumatic system

Clear space is available below ESP area.

•Conveying speed is high•Wear and tear is high•Fall in vaccum results in reduction of capacity

For the operation of complete ash handling system of boiler UNIT# 4 a dedicated PLC/PC system has been supplied. Complete system can be distributed in four sub-system:

1.)Ash collected from hoppers, ESP 1st to 7th field hoppers & stack hopper is conveyed to a common fly ash silo through dense phase pneumatic conveying system.

2.) the bottom ash from bottom ash hopper-1 & 2 of UNIT#4 is conveyed to ash slurry Pump.

3.)Conveying of ash slurry from the ash slurry Pump to the ash disposal pond.

4.)Fly ash silo unloading system distributed in four system.
