Poncho.
Start with the turtle neck, the poncho is knitted
from the top down. Cast on 88(96)100(104)112
(116) sts on circular needles US 8/UK 6 and knit
ribbing (knit 1, purl 1) When the collar measures
26 cm, increase 8 sts evenly spread, while knitting
all sts knit wise = 96(104)108 (112)120(124) sts.
Put a marker in contrasting color at the beginning
of the round. Weave in the marking thread along
the work, f. ex. Every 4th row – it is not that easy
counting rows in Fake Fur. Now continue like so:
1. round: Knit 1, 1 yarn over, *
20(22)23(24)26(27) knit sts, 1 yarn over, knit 2, 1
yarn over, repeat from * another 2 times and end
with 20(22)23(24)26(27) knit sts, 1 yarn over and
1 knit sts.
You made 8 increases in total =
104(112)116(120)128(132) sts.
2. round: Knit all sts and yarn overs.
3. round: Knit all sts and yarn overs.
4. round: Knit all sts and yarn overs.
5. round: Knit 1, 1 yarn over, *
22(24)25(26)28(29) knit sts, 1 yarn over, 2 knit, 1
Yarn over, repeat from * another 2 times and end
with 22(24)25(26)28(29) knit sts, 1 yarn over and
1 knit sts = 112(120)124(128)136(140) sts.
6. round: Knit all sts and yarn overs.
7. round: Knit all sts and yarn overs.
8. round: Knit all sts and yarn overs.
Continue like this, increasing on every 4th row
until you have 84(88)93(98)102(107) sts
stockinette between the corner sts =
31(32)34(36)37(39) increases after the turtle neck
= 344(360)380(400) 416(436) sts.
Edge: Now knit 6 rounds in garter stitch
(alternately 1 round knit sts and 1 round purl sts)
and then fasten off all the sts loosely, so the edge
gets the same elasticity as the poncho.
If you wish to knit the poncho longer, you should
count more yarn. Continue the increases, until you
are satisfied with the length on the poncho. Then
finish with the edge of 6 rounds garter stitch as
described.
