Rubin G, Jack Mc, Emma G, Austin M, Jess M, Maya T, Sam R, Tess H. Last Friday our “spell off” was held to determine the students who would represent our school at the next round of the Premier’s Spelling Competition. We had two “hotly contested” competitions before our finalists were determined. Congratulations to our junior finalists Remi C and Eva G (reserve Eleanor M) and senior finalists Maya T and Jess M (reserve Reuben G). School Uniform As we are in term 3, all students should be in their winter uniforms. Our uniform is a very important part of our schools identity and contributes to our sense of unity and belonging. Our uniform represents our school as much as our students represent the school and it is a symbol of our pride. Please ensure your child wears his or her uniform each day:

For girls and boys this includes the school tie

Bottle green hair accessories

School shoes should be black without coloured laces

Green socks for girls and grey socks for boys

Sports uniform on sports days only

Joggers on sport days only

Small stud earings and watch only I appreciate parent support and understanding regarding our uniform policy and thank you for your ongoing commitment to ensure your child wears his or her school uniform each day. Payment Changes for Parents and Carers We are currently preparing for a new Department of Education administrative system known as LMBR (Learning, Management and Business Reform). Our school administrative staff as well as myself will receive training on this throughout the term. LMBR is a change to the finance, administration and school management system used in all public schools in NSW. This new system is due to be fully implemented in September. We will keep parents informed of any operational changes and ask that you understand that this transition

and training time may cause some disruption to the office. At times there will be staff relieving in the front office and some parent enquiries may need to be made on an alternative day. Further information about LMBR and the implications for parents and carers will be communicated in the weekly newsletters.

Our school will transition to the new NSW Public Schools’ finance system and a new bank account on 17th October 2016. We ask that parents please ensure that you have made any outstanding POP (payments Online), cash or cheque payments before 20th September (last Tuesday of term 3). Thank you for your patience and understanding as we transition to our new finance, administration and school management system.

Cut-off Dates for School Activities and Excursions With changes to school payment methods in progress, we ask parents to ensure that payment for excursions and activities is made no later than the due date, as specified on permission notes. Payment by the due date assists the school to organise activities without the last minute complication of late payment and notes. Your assistance in helping us to manage this process more efficiently is greatly appreciated. Good Luck Jack Mc Jack Mc will participate in the National Athletics Carnival 19-22 August in Canberra. Our best wishes to Jack from all at PHPS for a successful carnival. Have a good week

A Cuppa with the Chaplain

I walked out of school (I think I may have even skipped…) last Friday afternoon with a huge smile on my face after enjoying some great conversations at the first “Cuppa with the Chaplain”. There is something so relaxing in enjoying a cuppa and cake with friends and by the end of the afternoon I really felt that we had become good friends as we shared stories, laughed and chatted about some of life’s challenges. Thank you to the lovely mums and dads that joined me in the library, you really encouraged me in the work that I do at Pleasant Heights.

The next cuppa with the chaplain is scheduled for Friday the 9th September at 2.30pm but you don’t have to wait until then to come and have a cuppa with me, just let the office know and I’ll give you a call to book it in!

See you soon

Our last Trivia Night was a fun night and we have an even bigger, better night planned for this

year – to be held in the school hall.

Tables seat 8 people but if you can’t raise a table yourself, we can help you join one. We can

even have a table for your child’s year – a great way to meet other parents of the school.

Prizes will be awarded for the best dressed table. No children are permitted due to the

consumption of alcohol.

To make the night successful, we need prizes for the games, lucky dip, and auctions. Please

assist us by seeking local businesses for donations, or making a donation on behalf of your

family. We would appreciate any prizes for the night to be handed in to the school office

before 25th August

Payment is due by Thursday 25th August. Please submit in an envelope marked Trivia Night.

The Tell Them From Me student feedback survey

I am delighted that this term, our school, like many other public schools in the state, will participate in a Department of Education initiative: the Tell Them From Me student feedback survey. The survey aims to help improve student learning outcomes and measures factors that are known to affect academic achievement and other student outcomes. The focus of the NSW-wide survey is on student wellbeing, engagement and effective teaching practices. You may remember that our students also participated in a Tell Them From Me student survey in Term 1 this year. Asking students to complete the survey twice in one year allows us to identify trends in student responses as well as track engagement and motivation across the school year. More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-parents The survey is a great opportunity for our students to provide us with valuable and quick feedback on what they think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them. Schools in Australia and around the world have used the Tell Them From Me survey to help improve how they do things at school. I want to assure you that the survey is confidential. The survey is conducted online and will typically take less than 30 minutes to complete. It will be administered during school hours between 31 August and 21 October. Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary. A consent (opt-out) form about the survey has been sent home with students. If you do not want your child or children to participate, please return the form to school by 31 August 2016. The Partners in Learning parent feedback survey

This Term, our school will be participating in the Partners in Learning parent survey, another part of the Tell Them From Me suite of surveys (student, teacher and parent surveys) on student engagement. The survey asks parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact on student wellbeing and engagement. Running this survey will help our school understand parents’ and carers’ perspectives on their child’s experience at school. These include: communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home and parent/carer views on the school's support of learning and behaviour. This valuable feedback will help our school make practical improvements. The survey is conducted entirely online at home or on public computers. The survey will typically take 15 minutes or less to complete and is completely confidential. The parent survey will be conducted between 31 August and 21 October. Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary, however, your responses are very much appreciated. More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-parents School Coordinators: Mrs Venables & Mr Swan
