s Arson is suspected behind a fire that destroyed the truck used by Freedom’s Gate Equine Rescue Society in Gleneden.

The Freedom’s Gate Equine Rescue Soci-ety’s only truck was

destroyed in a suspicous fire 4 am Wednesday morning. Carly Marchand-Jones and her son were startled awake by a loud explosion and the sight of their truck ablaze near their home. Marchand-Jones said that last month her son’s car was stolen off their Gleneden property. The car was even-tually recovered and written off. Now they are left with no vehicles. “Our truck was a massive part of Freedom’s Gate,” she said. “We were setting up load-ing out 300 bales of hay. This will affect the rescue more than us, and we won’t be able to haul horses or pick up hay.”

w Include the names of neighbourhoods on Salm-on Arm city maps. The resilience of the Salmon

Arm Church of Christ con-gregation is something to

behold. Its members lost two of its three Elder leaders in the course of four months. First, it was the hor-rific shooting in April that robbed the life of Gord Parmenter. Then on July 19, Elder Maurice Taylor passed away after long illness. But this little log church, sitting on one corner of the Fairgrounds, has not forgotten its fellow citizens of Salmon Arm. “This community has stood beside us through our difficulties and we want to say ‘thank you’,” reads the invitation to a community picnic on Aug. 24. “We just want to say ‘thank you’ to this wonderful community.” The picnic is set for 6 to 7:30 pm, August 24 at Blackburn Park, and it will include a free hot dog, Bounc-ey play for the kids, and neighbours getting to know each others. n
