Welcome to the Facility Operations Managers Association

Annual Conference and Trade Show!

In 2001, FOMA initiated a gathering of the best ice makers in

the world to share information and best practices. FOMA has

since hosted events in St. Louis, Denver, Colorado Springs,

Calgary, Phoenix, Ft. Lauderdale, Las Vegas and Orlando.

The 2018 conference will provide members the chance to

participate in dedicated NHL Facility training courses. The

conference will also hold the traditional NHL information

sessions which have become the mainstay of this event. This

year we are inviting the NHL Affiliated Facilities to join us for

the 2018 Annual FOMA Conference to expand the networking

opportunities for NHL and NHL Affiliate facilities.

Join us this season and interact with your NHL Facility peers

to learn new techniques, share ideas and create relationships

that will help you in your professional career.

MISSION:

To advance the field of play and safety standards within

the National Hockey League : through continuing education

programs, and the transfer of knowledge for our members.

VISION:

FOMA will be the preeminent organization focused on

raising the standards by which all professional hockey

arenas will be held.

,The Professional Ice Maker (PIM) course is an exclusive continuing education opportunity for FOMA members

who seek to improve their quality of work within the field of hockey and facility operations. Backed by the

National Hockey League, this course has an advanced focus on making and maintaining hockey ice and the

variables that affect it throughout the season.

In the first part of the course, participants will learn about practices most commonly used in larger facilities to

maintain a quality sheet of ice and will then discuss SOPs for converting the building to non-hockey events. With

focus around the importance of creating good working relationships, the instructors will discuss the role of a PIM

and how it relates to working with each of the different groups within a building.

The second part will cover in detail the expectations set by the National Hockey League for each of its facilities

and how each building is able to achieve those standards. Specifics in the Field of Play, Game Day Operations

and In-Game Procedures are just a few of the topics that will be covered in the second part of the course. Once

participants have completed the classroom portion of the course, they will be given an examination which they

must pass in order to earn their PIM certificate. Course Held June 18–19.

,In this course, participants will learn skills to create exceptional ice, troubleshoot

poor ice conditions, perform ice maintenance, and operate and maintain

equipment while ensuring a safe physical setting.

This course is not designed to make a worker a completely competent ice

resurfacer driver. It has been created to demonstrate industry best practices

with regard to the operation and care of a vital and expensive piece of ice maintenance equipment. The ice resurfacer is a

complicated piece of heavy equipment that requires a concise understanding of how it works, what adjustments must be

maintained and what ongoing regular maintenance must be conducted by the operator to ensure it provides trouble-free

operation. Ongoing workplace specific training must take place once the participant completes this training course.

The ORFA works closely with both Zamboni and Resurfice Corporation in providing the most up-to-date operational

information to participants during this course.
