Welcome to our Annual Endowment Donor Appreciation Luncheon!

On behalf of our student-athletes, coaches and staff, I would like to thank you for your support of Wisconsin Athletics. Each year during the fall we celebrate the most important component of our Athletic Department -- the education of our student-athletes. Providing the opportunity for a student-athlete to receive an education from a world class institution like ours and compete at the highest level of intercollegiate athletics is our top priority.

I am extremely proud that our programs continue to excel both in the classroom and in competition. Last year we had two programs claim conference championships, 15 teams or individuals competed in post-season play and we finished in the top 30 in the Learfield Sports Directors Cup, which recognizes all-sports excellence. We also had two 2016 graduates compete in the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. In the classroom, our 800 student-athletes combined for a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or higher for

the seventh straight year and over 200 Badger student-athletes earned academic all-conference honors. In addition, our student-athletes volunteered approximately 6,000 hours of their time to community service activities. These statistics speak volumes about the commitment to excellence that we hold at the University of Wisconsin.

Today we will hear from Dare Ogunbowale, one of our football student-athletes and a leader among his peers not only on campus but in the entire Big Ten Conference. It is a joy for me to see student-athletes like Dare embody what it is to be a student-athlete at the University of Wisconsin. Like Dare, there are many student-athletes who have been provided an opportunity to achieve at the highest level thanks in part to earning a scholarship. Dare, who also serves as team captain, will graduate in May with a degree in Economics.

In June of 2015, Ab and Nancy Nicholas established the Nicholas Matching Gift Program for endowed scholarship support, donating $50 million to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, of which $20 million was allocated for Wisconsin Athletics. In May 2016, with the help of 66 generous donors, the goal of $20 million was matched. Through this campaign, the Wisconsin Athletics endowment has grown to one of the largest in the Big Ten Conference which will help secure many student-athlete scholarships in perpetuity.

By impacting the lives of those who wear the Badger uniform, we take pride in knowing your investment in endowed funds will continue the future success and traditions of the University of Wisconsin. Thank you for all of your support.

Ted Kellner Ted D. Kellner is Executive Chairman of Fiduciary Management, Inc. (or “FMI”) of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst with over 46 years of investment experience, and is a portfolio manager for the firm, which he co-founded in 1980. FMI currently manages approximately $23 billion in assets for domestic and international institutions and individual investors through separately managed accounts and the FMI family of mutual funds. He founded and serves as Executive Chairman and Treasurer of Fiduciary Real Estate Development, Inc., which owns and manages over $800 million in multi-family residential units, totaling over 7,000 units. He is also a principal with Lakeview Equity Partners, and serves on the boards of American Family Mutual Insurance Company, BMO Harris Bradley Center, Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, Chipstone Foundation, Greater Milwaukee Committee, Medical College of Wisconsin, Metropolitan Milwaukee Chamber of Commerce, Milwaukee School of Engineering, and Milwaukee World Festival, Inc. (Summerfest).

Kellner and his wife, Dr. Mary Kellner, Ed.D. (BSE 1968), have been generous contributors to UW-Madison. Kellner has held many top volunteer posts, including chairman of the board of the University of Wisconsin Foundation, president of the Wisconsin Alumni Association and president of the Wisconsin School of Business Board of Visitors, and he also presently serves on a number of committees within the UW Foundation, and as a director for Fund for Wisconsin Scholars. Kellner was awarded the University of Wisconsin Distinguished Business Alumnus Award in 1994, the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Wisconsin Alumni Association in 1998, as well as awards and honors from a number of other business, educational and humanitarian organizations.

The Ted and Mary Kellner Football Scholarship is annually awarded to an exceptional student-athlete in good standing on the Football team. The 2016 recipient of the Ted and Mary Kellner Football Scholarship is Dare Ogunbowale.

Dare Ogunbowale

A Milwaukee, WI native, Dare Ogunbowale is a standout member of the UW Football team. The senior classman is currently pursuing his bachelor’s in Economics. Over his career in Madison he has played in 35 games with 10 starts, rushed for 1,012, caught 36 passes for 299 yards, and scored 9 touchdowns.

Dare is a former walk-on that began his career as a defensive back before making a switch to running back early in the 2014 season. He is also very active off the field serving as president of the Beyond the Game program which focuses on personal and career development for student-athletes. In 2016, he was named team captain for his on the field and off the field leadership skills. In August, he had the opportunity to speak on behalf of all B1G football student-athletes at the BIG Annual Kickoff Luncheon in Chicago.

He spent the 2016 summer interning with Merrill Lynch.Dare is the 2016 recipient of the of the Ted and Mary Kellner Football Scholarship.
