PrinciplesTo provide concepts and tools for effective leadership and management so that you can: • Be more anointed in your workplace.

• Use these material to facilitate the work of evangelism.



Objectives

• 1. Participants will understand sowing and reaping in decision making.

• 2. Participants will learn the principles of decision making.

• 3. Participants will become aware of the guidelines of making tough calls.

• 4. Participants will identify how to make decisions in the grey areas.



Passage to memorizePsalm 86: 9-12

your name forever.



Sowing and reaping: decisions and consequences

• Leadership, like life, is the sum total of the decisions we make.

• God lists the blessings He offers to those who obey Him and the punishment they’ll receive for disobedience. Lev. 26:3-39



Leaders who fail to make good decisions

• Lack commitment• Suffer from a

scattered focus • Look for excuses• Forget the big

picture• Go public with

private thoughts • Avoid change

• Adapt the motto, “That’s good enough.”

• Behave inconsistently

• Create poor relationships

• Don’t take God’s direction seriously



Confidence and decisiveness: Joshua distributes the land.

Joshua 13: 1-19: 51

• 1. Evaluation. Joshua developed a clear picture of the land remaining to be conquered. 13: 1-14:5)

• 2. Imitation. Joshua blessed Caleb and pointed to him a model of attitude and determination. 14: 6-15

• 3. Communication. Joshua clearly articulated the boundaries of each tribe’s land and what they needed to do. 15: 1-17:18

• 4. Exhortation. Joshua challenged the tribes to take the land God had promised them. 18:1-4

Many leaders fail because of an inability to make tough

decisionsConsider the following

guidelines for making a tough call.



Guidelines for making tough calls. Jeremiah 42: 1-43:13

1. Accept tough calls as requirement of leadership.




2. Do your homework. Research can make or break a decision.




3. Set a deadline.




4. Make sure the timing is right.




5. Seek counsel from the right people.




6. Make your decisions on the principles and values you believe in.

Test it against the word of God.




7. Develop systems that enable you to make the tough call.




8. Understand the emotional expense of making the tough

call.




9. Recognise your part and God’s part.




10. Pray for discernment and courage.



Decision making in the grey areas

Paul describes in 1 Corinthians 10:24-33 a system for making

decisions that is not black and white but grey.

areas1. Prioritise God’s people. Put others first. Ask yourself:

Who will benefit most from this

decision?




2. Pursue God’s glory. Does this decision glorify God or someone

else. Does this decision give a better picture who God is?




3. Perceive God’s purpose. The ultimate purpose for our being on earth is to bring

others to Christ. Ask yourself: Will this decision please God and fulfil His

purpose?



Prayer Focus• Father, In the name of Jesus, I

surrender myself to walk in the Word. Your word living in me produces the Life in this world.

• The word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. It makes my way plain before me.

• I boldly and confidently say that my heart is fixed and established on the solid foundation – the Living Word of God! Amen
