PREFACE.

%*^4HIS record of the services rendered in the War of

J 19 14-18 by members of the Chinese Customs Service,

prefaced by the "Customs Roll of Honour" giving

the names of those of our colleagues who fell in the war so far

as it has been possible to ascertain them, is published for the

use of the Customs Service. I trust that it will serve as a

permanent and valuable memorial of those who nobly gave their

lives in a great cause, and as a tribute to those who, having done

their duty, have, happily, returned to the Service.

Inspector General.
