During his campaign he made eight statewide broadcasts urging the people to realize that we were on the verge of war, and calling for all-out preparation. His cam­_paign slogan was "Isolation Has Failed- Stop Hitler Now!" It i~ now conceded that faster prepara­tion would have shortened the wa'i:· and saved many lives. ·

Approximately two million yards of excavation work have started here in the last two weeks, in preparation for develop­ment of sub-divisions. This is contrary to the normal opera- I t ions this late in the season since usually at this time con- I t ractors are getting their jobs in shape for the winter. With this situation _ it affords late season employment for ''many i of our members. These projects include Rollingswood, Rancho Buri- at Sharp Park for the sewage plant Buri a nd Standard Builders' Twin outlet.

With these many dirt moving ·Peaks development. · Keeble is doing the grading at

Rollingswood. He has moved all t he equipment pff the Candlestick Point portion of the freeway to t)).is job, along with the DW 20's t hat have completed the dirt mov­ing on Skyline Highway. With the many pieces of equipment now in operation there is much activity in t his vicinity. Bob Barbettini's cats are removing the trees.

Rancho Buri-Buri, a Bauer ·Lesser development, is being graded qy Piombo Construction. The pre­liminary work of clearing the swampland is completed .and now th_e dirt moving has begun. A total of. 400 lots will be available when finished.

John Delphia has moved in a large spread of Cobras, cats and cans on the Standard Builders de­velo-pment atop of Twin Peaks. Steep grades and long hauls don't .ailow the' operat~rs on these rigs much time for sightseeing.
