Mobility Strength The company has deployed a truck fleet of more than 100 transit-mixers (9, 11 & 12 m³ capacity) supplemented by 30 concrete pumps (mobile & static) enabling it to ensure prompt, efficient and reliable delivery and placing of concrete in accordance with schedules laid down by the customer.

In addition to its stationary batching plants, Readymix Abu Dhabi has 5 mobile plants of production capacity ranging from 60m3/hr to 240m3/hr that can be placed on site for large scale and /or remote projects.

Profiles Robert Hogan – General Manager Robert Hogan started his career in the readymix industry in 1986, joining Redland Readymix (UK) as a Concrete Technician and progressing through the company in various roles including a Shipping Officer, Sales Executive, Sales Manager and Area Manager before moving on in 1999 to take up the role of area Sales Manager for a construction chemicals company in the South East of England.

After 14 successful years, he left in 2001 to pursue a career in the U.A.E. with Readymix Abu Dhabi. As Sales Manager, he was involved in securing a number of prestigious projects including the Emirates Palace Hotel, The New Corniche road, Central Market, The Atlantis Hotel Palm Jumeirah, Park Place Dubai; the first commercially produced self-compacting concrete in Abu Dhabi and many other notable projects.

When promoted to the position of Operations Manager in 2006, Robert grew the operations to reach a capacity of over 200,000 m³ per month at peak. During this period, the operations consisted of 12 batching plants, over 200 truck mixers, 40 concrete pumps and staffing levels of over 700 men. The company supplied some of Abu Dhabi’s most iconic projects including the pumping of 80 N/mm² concrete 370m vertically to Abu Dhabi’s tallest building, Central Market Tower 2.

In January 2012, Robert was promoted to the position of General Manager of RMAD and now looks to ensure the company achieves its vision of taking on and completing, the toughest concrete challenges and projects in the region.

Khaled Bseiso – Chief Financial Officer Khaled is responsible for managing RMAD’s Finance Department, through overseeing various processes including financial strategy, financial reporting and analysis, treasury operations and controllership. With over 18 years of experience within the accounting and audit professions. Khaled has supported the company’s drive for continued excellence through improving internal controls; establishing financial best-practices; and standardizing many financial processes.

Prior to joining RMAD in early 2015, Khaled held a variety of finance and audit roles at major multinationals, including Ernst & Young, Emirates Future and Cham Holding.

Khaled holds a Bachelor Degree in Accountancy from the Hashemite University in Jordan. Additionally, he has attained the designations of Certified Public Account, Certified Financial Consultant and Certified Fraud Examiner from USA.

Wassim Mansour – Commercial & Technical Manager Wassim Mansour holds a master’s degree in Concrete Technology from Reykjavik University in Iceland, diploma in Advanced Concrete Technology from the Institute of Concrete Technology in the UK, and a bachelor degree of Science in Civil Engineering from the Lebanese University. Wassim is in progress with a PhD program on EcoCrete and Concrete Rheology at Reykjavik University.

In 2001, Wassim started his career with Advanced Construction Technology Services (ACTS), which is one of the most reputed materials testing and consultancy firms in the Middle East. During his four years employment with ACTS as a Material Engineer and then Head of Geotechnical department, Wassim was involved in various large-scale construction and rehabilitation projects in Lebanon, Syria and Qatar. Wassim had a key role in establishing ACTS branch in Qatar.

In 2005, Wassim joined Readymix Abu Dhabi and currently holds the post of Commercial & Technical Manager. During his employment with RMAD, Wassim has been heavily involved in the supply process of over 15 million cubic meter of concrete supplied by RMAD and its subsidiary firms to a large number of projects in the UAE and Lebanon.

Wassim is a member of the Institute Concrete Technology in the UK, the American Concrete Institute and the Lebanese Order of Engineers. He has received many awards for his contribution to concrete industry. He has presented various innovative concrete related topics at numerous international conferences around the globe.

Malek Jammoul - Al Ain Area Manager

Malek Jammoul holds an Architecture Degree from the University of Naples "Federico II", Italy and pursued a specialization in Monuments Restoration at the same University. Following his graduation, he worked for T.A.U. (Territory, Architecture, Urbanism) in Italy.

Upon his return to Lebanon in 1994, he had a rich and diverse experience. He started as a site engineer at AKARIA, then as project manager at Bureau Abdel Wahed Chehab.

Following his site experience, he embarked on an extensive journey in the Readymix industry. From 1995 to 1998 he was a quality control manager at Betonval / SO.I.ME. From 1998 to 2002, he worked as a plant and production manager at Liban Beton in Lebanon. He was part of the initial team that setup the company's branch in Qatar as a plant manager. He then moved to Saudi Arabia where he took the position of Assistant General Manager for Jehan Holding Group in Jeddah.

In 2005, Malek joined Readymix Abu Dhabi and currently holds the post of Al Ain Area Manager. During his employment with RMAD, Malek was in-charge of various technical and production positions.

APPROACH The manufacturing process is fully computerised (Simma – Austria). The batching operation is controlled by P.D.S microprocessors providing weighing and mixing controls as well as a database for mix designs making the process completely automatic with manual override facility in the event of malfunction.

Cement is fed from the external silos by means of screw conveyors into a weighing hopper where it is weighed to an accuracy of 1% (one per cent). The cement is held in the hopper until all concrete constituents are weighed.

Each plant has its own overhead aggregate bins. In addition to the overhead storage bins, bulk storage of aggregates is kept in separate sizes, within purpose made shaded storage bays located near the plant (storage volume is dependent on site conditions). The loading of aggregate into the plant is by means of loading shovels feeding the separate materials into a hopper from which it is conveyed by a chevron belt into the separate overhead storage bins. Aggregates are measured by weight from the overhead storage bins.

In general, all water for concrete is either from main water lines or transported by water tankers from recognised and approved sources. The water used in the production of concrete is potable and in accordance with the relevant standards. The water is chilled down to approximately 1°C and stored in purpose built (insulated and especially painted) water tanks before being added to the concrete. Water is then fed from the ice bank into a weighing hopper where it is weighed to an accuracy of 1% (one per cent).

Admixtures are supplied in liquid form and are delivered in bulk and stored in purpose made storage tanks. Admixtures will be dispensed through automatic dispensers and are measured to an accuracy of 3%. Admixture usage will be as per the manufacturer’s recommendations.

Once all the constituents of the mix are weighed to their satisfactory accuracy, they are discharged into the plant’s mixer according to a pre-set sequence. The mixer will ensure that the mix is homogeneous and consistent. Without exception, all concrete is wet batched throughout, twin shaft mixers ensure optimum consistency.

RMAD has a dedicated Plant Maintenance Team that carries out regular calibration checks in order to guarantee proper functioning of all plant and equipment. An independent professional body regularly verifies these calibrations.

The batching plant calibration is carried using set weights. Each set of “load cells” is independently calibrated in 25kg intervals over its certified range. The load cells sets are as follows:

All concrete when mixed to a satisfactory degree of uniformity will be delivered to the job site in the volume required using our fleet of transit mixers. Each and every load will have a barcoded delivery ticket containing the following details:

• Date • Transit mixer number • Time of loading • Driver’s name • Cubic meters ordered/delivered/this load • Miscellaneous description • Customer/contract/location • Time on/off site (to be filled by the client if required)

Readymix Abu Dhabi operates a fleet of over 100 transit mixers of different sizes and makes. RMAD can allocate a certain number of mixers and pumps to suit site requirements.

Furthermore, RMAD operates a large fleet of pumps to assist contractors in placing their concrete.

For plant-on-site projects, specific methodologies are put in place to suit any particular requirement the client may wish to implement.

QUALITY POLICY Quality Control In its quest to achieve Total Quality Management, Readymix Abu Dhabi operates a computerised central dispatch system installed at Head Office. The Central Dispatch database stores the details of every project including a list of approved mixes, prices and agreed services (i.e. temperature control, pumping, admixtures…). By restricting the shippers’ access to pre-approved mixes and services, efficient and prompt control can be achieved by the Technical Department, insuring that each site gets only their approved mixes.

The Dispatch System is linked via internet/intranet to all plants where available and via a specially developed GPRS connectivity when not available. This provides on-line & live information from all linked plants to Head Office enabling Technical, Operations & Sales personnel to keep a close eye on the quality and service provided to customers.

Readymix Abu Dhabi operates a Quality Management System in accordance with ISO 9000:2008 requirements.

To supplement the automated manufacturing process, concrete technicians are available to regularly check & monitor the consistency and workability of concrete both on site and at the plant.

Maintenance programs are a blend of manufacturer recommendations as well as well-known maintenance codes and standards. This has lead to one of the best maintenance procedures in the field monitored and scheduled through a state of the art CMMS system that facilitates work and prolongs equipment life. This is achieved through deep analysis applied on different types of maintenance whether it is TBM, CBM, RBM or RTF.

The plant department deploys a range of Key Performance Indicators to ensure: • Plant and equipment are always at their best performing condition. • Maintenance work is always effective. • Staff is productive. • Product is of finest quality and according to specifications.

We strictly follow our safety policy and closely monitor staff to adhere to it during maintenance throughout our plant. Hence, plant staff follows a lockout – tag out safety procedure while carrying out maintenance works.

Trucks & Pumps Readymix Abu Dhabi operates one of the youngest fleets of high capacity truck mixers from European makers: Renault and MAN. The truck mixers capacities vary from 9 to 12 m3. They are maintained in good working order by our in-house workshop. The workshop is equipped with the latest technologies for diagnostic, troubleshooting and repair of faults. Trucks are also equipped with sensors to give feedback on consumption and other performance indicators.

The truck fleet is supplemented by over 20 mobile (with boom sizes of up to 52m) and static pumps that are owned and operated by Readymix Abu Dhabi. Also available are a number of hydraulic placing booms up to a reach of 32m.

• A state-of-the-art concrete Rheometer (Contec Rheometer 4SCC) is used to accurately design, control and assess the rheology of flowable and self-consolidating concrete. It is also used to estimate the compatibility of admixtures and cements in terms of fresh concrete performance.

• Our technical department has access to other instruments through cooperation agreements with external laboratories and universities.

Research & Development Projects The most recent advanced concrete products that Readymix Abu Dhabi has researched /developed are:

Geopolymer (2009-2010) Over 2 years of extensive research works, Readymix Abu Dhabi successfully developed a concrete mix with total replacement of Portland cement by GGBS. Various mock-ups were cast using this concrete mix.

Performance of the concrete mock-ups against various exposures over time is still being monitored. Data related to this research has not been published by Readymix Abu Dhabi yet.

This type of concrete is eco-friendly, highly durable and could be used for structural elements. However, particular placing and curing regimes require special expertise and practices that are not common in the UAE construction market.

EcoCrete & EcoCrete-Xtreme (2010-present) Ecocrete and Ecocrete-Xtreme are a breakthrough in recent concrete technology. They are the result of a collaborative research work between Readymix Abu Dhabi and Innovation Center Iceland.

EcoCrete & EcoCrete Xtreme have the following characteristics:

• Easy to place Self-consolidating concrete (SCC) made with extremely low cement content (less than 80 Kg of cement and 260 Kg of total binder content per cubic meter of concrete).

• Highly durable concrete offering extended service life even in very harsh environments (more than 150 years of service life according to Life-365).

• Substantially improve concrete sustainability. • Substantial carbon footprint reduction (more than 70% reduction in CO2e

when compared to conventional concrete of the same grade).

A life size demonstration of EcoCrete and EcoCrete-Xtreme was carried out at our plant in the presence of the Icelandic president, H.E. Ólafur Ragnar Grímmson, as well as other key people involved in the UAE construction field. During the demonstration, using a 3.8 x 1.5m transparent acrylic form of the shape of the “U A E” letters connected only at the bottom, EcoCrete-Xtreme was cast from the top of the “U” letter and successfully flowed throughout the whole form to reach the top end of letter “E” just in 2 minutes and 10 seconds.

Readymix Abu Dhabi operates one of the youngest fleets of high capacity truck mixers from European makers: Renault and MAN. The truck mixers capacities vary from 9 to 12 m3. They are maintained in good working order by our in-house workshop. The workshop is equipped with the latest technologies for diagnostic, troubleshooting and repair of faults. Trucks are also equipped with sensors to give feedback on consumption and other performance indicators.

The truck fleet is supplemented by 30 mobile (with boom sizes of up to 52m) and static pumps that are owned and operated by Readymix Abu Dhabi. Also available are a number of hydraulic placing booms up to a reach of 32m.
