1993/94 Season
Bayswater Bullets had 59 registered athletes
The opening day started with a march past, and each club had children dressed to represent a past Olympic City. Our city was Los Angeles.
State Squad member Hayden Lacy (U14B) had been selected as a member of the 1993 National Squad and had been invited to be an Ambassador for the Association at the 1993/94 State Championships
Bayswater's Lee Earsman (U12) competed in the State Finals at the Primary Schools sports at Olympic Park. He jumped a personal best of 1.52m in the High Jump to finish a credible fourth.
Bayswater Primary School Council approved the use of their grounds for Little Athletics training for the summer season.
Ben Sword represented Victoria in the Under 13 Australian Championships held in Adelaide on April 23rd & 24th 1994. He came first in the 100m with an Australian record time of 11.70 seconds and was part of the 4x100m Relay that also won in an Australian record time. In the 200m, Ben came 8th after pulling a groin muscle.
Bayswater Bullets Life Membership were awarded to David Blackwood, Greg Waugh and Janet Caulfield on 10th April 1994
Grass track on the Cricket oval used for last half of season due to track being prepared for the rubber surfaced all weather sealed track. The track was not complete before season's end

ATHLETES IN RECORD-BREAKING FORM
ATHLETES from the Bayswater Bullets Little Athletics Club have recorded some remarkable results in the Victorian Little Athletics Championships, held at Olympic Park.
The club's overall medal tally was four Gold, one Silver and one Bronze but more importantly, five club records were broken and another equalled along with three Knox centre records and one State record.
Sisters Peta (Under 12) and Lindel (Under 10) Hodgkinson dominated walk events - Peta won gold in the 1500 metre event in a new club record while Lindel captured Silver in the 1100 metre Walk, also in a club record time.
Lindel also equalled the club record with her fourth place finish in the High Jump.
It was an eventful carnival for Under 12 Daniel Sword, which started promisingly with victory in his 80 metres hurdle heat in a club and centre record time.
However, with victory in sight in the final, Sword fell at the second last hurdle and was forced to spend two days in the Royal Children's Hospital after breaking his wrist.
Better luck for his older brother Ben, who captured the Under 13 sprint double, setting a club record and centre record on his way to victory in the 200 metres.
Star of the meeting was Under 14 Hayden Lacy, whose leap of 1.83 metres was good enough not only for the gold medal, but also earned him a club, centre and State record.
Under 12 Lee Earsman also impressed in his high jump event, with a jump of 1.50 metres good enough for a bronze.

SPRINTER SUPER SHOW'S
SPRINTER Ben Sword surprised even himself when he broke two Australian Records recently.
But now aware of his natural talents, Ben believes he has the potential to compete at Olympic level one day.
Ben 13, of Ferntree Gully, broke the sprinting records at the Australian Team Championships in Adelaide. Ben is this week's Knox News Sports Star.
A member of Bayswater Bullets Little Athletics, he was selected for the Victorian Little Athletics Association squad to compete against other states.
At the Championships he won the 100m event in 11.7 seconds, breaking the Australian Record of 12 seconds and equalling the state record.

2000 OLYMPICS
He was also part of the relay team which won gold in 47.9 seconds, breaking the record of 48.8 seconds. Ben is "pretty happy" with the results. He said he did better than he expected.
His mother Maree Sword said "he also came eighth in the 200m event "but pulled a muscle in the heat, so he virtually jogged" She is naturally proud of his achievements. "He also won double gold at the state championships in March", she said. "He's been doing this for three years and he's making a lot of progress."
At the moment Ben is setting his sights on the 2000 Olympics. He began training three months ago. Mrs Sword said her son's coach believed he was talented ..."as long as girls and cars don't get in the way." "This is all he wants to do at the moment; he's not interested in any other sports."
Nominations for the Sports Star awards can be sent to the Knox News, PO Box 439, Boronia, 3155.

Due to track being unavailable, frustration among parents and children trying out for Divisions etc. We are giving the parents the choice to take their children to either Knox on the grass or Nunawading on a track. Bayswater Bullets Team Managers will be at both Knox and Nunawading on each competition day. It will be the parents choice as to where they want their children to run.
31st Jan 1994
Executive Meeting: Letter re: use of Nunawading or Knox tracks while on grass track. Centre Executive should have been advised PRIOR to this taking place. Communication to Nunawading should have gone through Centre Secretaries - not individual clubs. Points are not awarded to these athletes.

PRESIDENTS REPORT 1993/94
We've come to the end of another summer season and what a difficult year it has been, especially for our new members. I hope the difficulties experienced during the update of the track will not deter you from returning next season.
I wish to congratulate all the children from Bayswater Bullets for their achievements throughout the season and to those who competed in Divisionals, Regionals, and State and Knox Championships. We've had great results from all our kids.
I would also like to thank our sponsors, who without their support our fundraising tasks would be a lot harder and we ask families to please continue to show patronage to our sponsors and let them know you are from Bayswater Bullets.
A big thankyou to the Committee - Hoddy, Kerry, Maree, Greg, Leonie, Naomi, Andrew and Janet, for their dedication to the Club and the endless hours they all put in to enable the successful running of Bayswater Bullets. Without their efforts we wouldn't survive. I hope we can encourage some new members onto the Committee this year - it's not all hard work and we do have a lot of fun.
I wish the Cross Country athletes every success with their endeavours during the winter season due to commence 9th April.
Good luck to those children who participate in other sports during the winter and I look forward to seeing you all back for the start of the summer season.
Malcolm Sword
TEAM MANAGERS REPORT 1993/94
The season began with a shade over 50 athletes , which rose to 60 after 7 weeks. Competition results from the first 9 weeks were nothing short of outstanding, with 26 Club Records falling by the wayside and a massive 377 Personal Bests achieved.
As from week 10, The Club followed the Centre by not recognising Club Records and Personal Bests on the grass track, whilst the new track was being laid. As we all know and due to circumstances beyond anybody's control, the grass track was used for the remainder of the season. Numbers dropped dramatically at this stage, due to athletes seeking alternative venues to prepare for the lead up competitions and State Championships. The Committee of the Club, recognising the dilemma voted to stop all point scoring and finalise End of Season trophies and awards.
Bayswater Bullets had a drop in the number of children competing in Divisionals, Regionals, State and Knox Championships. For those children that did compete, they performed wonderfully and did themselves and our Club proud.
13 children (U9-U12's) competed at Divisionals, resulting in 7 1sts, 7 2nds, 1 3rd plus 2 Club Records broken. 16 children (U9-U15's) competed at Regionals 2 weeks later resulting in 6 Gold, 3 Silver, 1 Bronze, 6 Club Records and 3 Knox Records broken. One month later - THE ULTIMATE CHALLENGE - STATE!!!!!!!!!!!

WHAT RESULTS!!!!!!!!!!
4 Gold, 1 Silver, 1 Bronze, 5 Club Records, 1 Equalled Club Record, 3 Knox Records, 1 Victorian State Record
Unfortunately, Daniel Sword broke his wrist which could have added further Gold medals to the tally. Ben Sword on the other hand qualified for the Victorian Team to compete at Adelaide on 24th April. Congratulations to Ben from all of us at the Club.
Knox Championship Day saw 23 children compete in 84 events. 21 Gold, 16 Silver, 17 Bronze, 7 4ths, 4 5ths, and 2 7ths. As Team Managers we feel these results could have placed us on top of the Club Standings at Knox.
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE SEASON
The Track - Will it ever be ready?
Lisa Halbert/Melanie Candela - The titanic battle in the 80m Hurdles. End Result - Dead Heat.
Kirsty Waugh - Our first U16 Girl
Hayley Malt - Breaking 6 year records in the 70m and 200m sprints
Lindel Hodgkinson - Breaking HJ and Walk Records and Silver at State
Lee Earsman - Bronze at State (not tall enough yet to break Hayden's record)
Daniel Sword - The spectacular fall at State and a fighting spirit to get up and finish the race
Peta Hodgkinson - Breaking an 8 year Record and Gold at State
Ben Sword - Breaking numerous sprint Records and Double Gold at State. Making the Victorian State Team.
Hayden Lacy - Breaking the HJ Record at Club, Knox and Victorian Level (once again) and Gold at State.
Every Girl and Boy at Bayswater Bullets - For being who you are and making Bayswater Bullets what it is.
The children should be proud of their achievements/accomplishments for the year under very trying circumstances. We, as Team Managers feel very privileged to be part of such a terrific team. Well done kids!
We can all look forward to an excellent year next Season on the Brand new track.
