Nyberg, Jr.,M.D. AUA DISTINGUISHED CONTRIBUTION AWARD The Distinguished Contribution Award was established in 1989 to recognize individuals who have made noteworthy contributions to the science and practice of urology. The 1996 AUA Distinguished Contribution Award is presented to Leroy M. Nyberg, Jr., M.D., Bethesda, Maryland. AUA DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD The Distinguished Service Award was established in 1983 to recognize individuals who are deemed to have contributed significantly to the advancement of goals of the American Urological Association. The 1996 AUA Distinguished Service Award recipient is David L. McCullough, M.D., Winston-Salem, North Carolina. David L. McCullough, t .... Jacob and Susan Rajfer AUA CERTIFICATE OF APPRECIATION The AUA Special Certificate of Appreciation was established in 1989-1990 to recognize individuals who, as Local Arrangements Chairs, have provided extraordinary contributions leading to a successful and outstanding Annual Meeting. The 1996 AUA Certificate of Appreciation Award is presented to Jacob and Susan Rajfer, Torrance, California, for their many hours of service on behalf of the AUA in preparing for and carrying out the AUA's 1995 Annual Meeting in Las Vegas -- the largest gathering of urologists ever. AUA GOLD CANE AWARD The Gold Cane Award was established in 1990-1991. It is to recognize senior urologists who have distinguished themselves by outstanding contributions to the urology profession and to the American Urological Association, and have not been recognized in any other way, i.e. Association Officer or other award. The 1996 AUA Gold Cane Award recipient is Charles A. Hulse, M.D., San Antonio, Texas. Charles A. Hulse, M.[ Lowell R. King, M.D. Emil A. Tanagho, M,D. AUA CERTIFICATE OF ACHIEVEMENT The AUA Certificate of Achievement Award was established in 1991-I 992, to recognize lifetime career achievements in urology. Indications for consideration would be: a successful residency program; success in research; successful coordination of other departments; successful productivity in the national AUA; conducting seminars; and international activities. Two individuals have been chosen to receive the AUA Certificate of Achievement Award in 1996, the first being Lowell R. King, M.D., Durham, North Carolina, and the second being Emil A. Tanagho, M.D., San Francisco, California. PRESIDENTIAL CITATION Presidential Citation Awards may be presented to one or more individuals deemed to have significantly promoted urology's cause during a specific period of time. These citations may be given in conjunction with the American Foundation for Urologic Disease, or solely by the American Urological Association. Each recipient is chosen by the AUA President (in consultation with other Officers and/or the Foundation President). The 1996 AUA Presidential Citation recipient is Frank B. AUA RAMON GUITERAS AWARD ]he Ramon Guiteras Award, established in 1963, is the most prestigious of all the Association awards. It is named after the founder of the American Urological Association, Ramon Guiteras, M.D. The Ramon Guiteras Award may be presented annually to an individual who is deemed to have made outstanding contributions to the art and science of urology. It is sponsored through a generous educational grant to the AUA from C.R. Bard, Covington, Georgia. The 1996 AUA Ramon Guiteras Award is presented to James Tate Mason, M.D., of Seattle, Washington.

AUA HUGH HAMPTON YOUNG AWARD The Hugh Hampton Young Award was first given in 1969 and is in memory of an AUA Past President and Editor of the Journal of Urology. It is presented annually to an individual whose contributions to the study of genitourinary tract disease are considered to be outstanding. It is sponsored through a generous educational grant from Karl Storz Endoscopy-America, Culver City, California. The 1996 AUA Hugh Hampton Young Award is presented to Patrick C. Walsh, M.D., of Baltimore, Maryland.

AUA GOLD CYSTOSCOPE AWARD lhe Gold Cystoscope Award was established in 1977 and may be presented annually to a urologist who has distinguished himself or herself by outstanding contributions to his or her profession within ten (10) years of completing residency training. It is sponsored through a generous educational grant from CIRCON ACMI. The 1996 AUA Gold Cystoscope Award recipient is Michael K. Brawer, M.D., of Seattle, Washington.

AUA HEALTH SCIENCE AWARD The AUA Health Science Award was established in 1977 and may be presented annually to one or more companies for outstanding help in promoting the educational, scientific and research goals of the AUA. Two recipients are chosen for the 1996 AUA Health Science Award - - Pfizer, Inc. of New York, New York and Microvasive/Boston Scientific Corporation of Natick, Massachusetts.

AUA WILLIAM P. DIDUSCH ART AWARD The William P. Didusch Art Award was established in 1983 in memory of the late Mr. William P. Didusch, the first Art Editor of The Journal of Urology. The Award may be presented annually to promote and recognize contributions to urological art, including but not limited to illustrations, sculpture, still photography, motion pictures and television productions. The 1996 AUA William P. Didusch Art Award is presented to Rainer M.E. Engel, M.D., Baltimore, Maryland.
