I was driving to work when I heard a strange noise

it was coming from the engine of my car

my mobile phone was ringing

when I saw a man by the side of the road

when my car broke down

and he wasn’t moving

I stopped my car and got out

he was holding a radio and dancing

he was wearing a bright yellow jumper

smoke was coming out of the back of the

car

a bicycle was lying in the grass

I was watching him dance when

I didn’t know what to do it didn’t look broken it looked very

expensive

he shouted to me then I saw a man walking towards me

I walked towards the man and shouted

the sun was shining so

What are you looking at? Hey! Are you OK? then I noticed he was

breathing I wanted to see if he

was hurt, so

the man was smiling and holding out his

hands

I didn’t know what to say, so I smiled

I was looking into his face

he wasn’t wearing any shoes

he looked very happy to see me

I was putting out my hand, to shake his,

and said ‘Hello my friend!’

when he sat up and said

I was getting back into my car

when he suddenly hugged me

I was very surprised and asked Who are you?

My brother has an important job and tells everybody how much

money he earns. My parents are very proud of him. I don’t have a

job and I think they are disappointed in me.

My parents want me to work in the family business, but I

want to go to university.

I’d like to have more friends, but I don’t

know how to meet any new people.

I oft en lend money to my friend and she now owes me over €300. She’s got a bank loan and bought a new car.

She hasn’t paid me back.

My tooth hurts and I can’t eat or sleep. I’m afraid of going to the

dentist. My friend is getting married in another country. I want to go, but the flight and hotel

are very expensive.

I can’t cook very well, but I’d like to learn before I

go to university. I’ve tried learning from cook books,

but they’re boring.I love buying lots of books because I like reading. My

apartment is very small and I don’t have any more space –

and books cost a lot of money.

I want to celebrate finishing university. I’d like to

have a party at my apartment, but I’m worried that my

neighbours will complain.

My friend is visiting from America. He/She has asked to stay with me for three weeks.

I would like him/her to stay for one week. I’m not very fit and I’d like

to get in shape. Exercise classes are too expensive

and I’d prefer to be outside.

My friend is always late. Yesterday, I waited for one hour in a café for him/her.

It’s very annoying. He/She doesn’t think

it’s a problem.

My friend and I like the same music. I always download the

music and pay for it, then he/she copies it. He/She never

buys his/her own music.

Every time I meet my friend, he/she talks about his/

her problems and asks for advice. He/She never asks

me about my life.

Today Aron still goes climbing, but he always tells someone where he is going.

He knows the water won’t last a long time. He will die if he can’t escape from the canyon.

It’s the story of a young man who loves adventure, danger and excitement.

The young man, whose name is Aron Ralston, decides to go climbing by himself in Canyonlands National Park in the USA.

He uses the knife to cut his arm free and climbs out of the canyon.

The rock lands on Aron’s arm. His arm is stuck. He can’t move.

He tries to push the rock away, but it’s too heavy.

Aron has a small bottle of water, no food and a small knife.

By chance a pair of walkers is passing close by and they help him reach a hospital.

He has to make a very difficult decision, his arm or his life.

Aron has spent 127 hours stuck in the canyon. He is weak. His arm is bleeding.

He doesn’t tell anyone where he is going. While he is climbing in a canyon, a large rock falls down.
