Conventional IR3 Detectors

Competitions: Narrow Band 4.3 micron Pyroelectric IR sensors, combined with 2 guard

bands (3.8 & 5.1)

Disadvantages:• Respond to clean-burning hydrocarbon fires only

• Totally blinded by water on the lens, fog, rain, smoke

• Max. operating temperatures: 75ºC

• Respond only to hot, carbon-based fires

• Respond best to change in incident radiant energy

• Respond best to mechanically shuttered fires

• Do not respond to slow growing fires

Advantage:• Easy to design and manufacture

FS24X WideBand IR3 Detector

FSX Technology: WideBand IR, WideBand 4.3 micron & Quantum sensors

Advantages:• Respond to hydrocarbon & non-hydrocarbon fires

• Not blinded by water on the lens, fog, rain, smoke

• Higher operating temperatures: 85ºC (standard) & 110ºC (extended)

• Quantum sensors respond to black body radiation and growing fires

• Can detect pure and hot flames’ sooty and dirty fires as well as cooler carbon dioxide fires (Isopropyl alcohol)

Disadvantage:• Extremely difficult to design
