Petrochemical Lining
Place lengths of RAWSEAL® TR35 fillet on the compacted sub-
base tightly against the ring wall and bed them into the
Rawpaste Mastic. Butt joint the lengths of TR35 and knead them together to give a continuous homogeneous mass of fillet around
the ring beam. Place the RAWMAT® HDB onto the compacted sub-base allowing sufficient membrane to lap up the face of the
ring beam and cover the TR35 fillet, press the black geotextile side of the RAWMAT® HDB into the Rawpaste Mastic.
Using a Hilti DS460 gun fix an PVC termination bar 25mm wide by
4mm thick through the top of the RAWMAT® HDB sheet to ensure the membrane is fixed firmly in place. Using a sharp utility
knife, trim the membrane back to a level line around the
circumference of the site. Once the membrane is laid, overlapped and fixed to any structures it must be backfilled with a 300mm
minimum confining material. This material should be soil or ≤10mm granular material. This should be placed and compacted
as part of an ongoing process.
To seal the penetrations through the membrane apply RAWPASTE Mastic onto the penetration where it will pass
through the RAWMAT® HDB Type P membrane and up the pipe penetration 100mm. Cut a length of RAWSEAL® TR35 fillet to fit
around the circumference of the pipe and bed this into the mastic
tight to the pipe. Butt the two ends and knead together to form a continuous homogenous mass. If necessary secure with Tie wire.
Cut a patch of RAWMAT® HDB Type P 450mm larger in all directions than the
diameter of the pipe.
Remove the white non-woven geotextile and make a star cut in the centre of the
patch piece to the diameter of the pipe. Feed the patch over the Pipe and over the
RAWSEAL® TR35, bed the membrane into
the mastic and apply additional mastic to seal the patch to the pipe. Apply
additional mastic to the surface of the patch piece.
INSTALLATION
All projects must be assessed on an individual basis as installation details may differ. For project specific recommendations contact
the Technical Department at Rawell. Installation shall not take place in strong wind, heavy rain or snow. Installation may
continue during light rainfall providing the backfilling process continues until the RAWMAT® HDB Type P is covered with correct
depth (minimum 300mm) of protective layer.
The surface onto which the membrane is to be laid should be
thoroughly compacted to provide a firm smooth surface free of all ruts, sharp objects, roots, debris, stones larger than 10mm and
any protruding objects.
The RAWMAT® HDB Type P should be laid with the black woven geotextile in contact with the prepared substrate and the white
non-woven geotextile uppermost. The unrolling and placement of RAWMAT® HDB should be performed in such a way that the
membrane is not damaged, stretched, folded or creased. If necessary please contact Rawell's Technical Sales Department.
As the tank bases are circular work from the centre of the tank across the tank to the opposite side then continue out from the
middle. Cutting the roll to the shape of the tank then turning the roll round and working back to the centre from the next overlap
will reduce wastage.
Sealed laps are achieved by folding back the top sheet in the overlap, applying a 100mm wide, 1-2mm thick layer of Rawpaste
Mastic to the black geotextile side of the upper sheet. Peeling back the top white non-woven geotextile on the lower sheet in
the lap, installing the adjacent sheet, overlapped to a minimum
of 150mm with the Rawpaste Mastic in direct contact with the bentonite clay core of the lower sheet, and reinstating the white
non-woven geotextile over the entire joint.
Under no circumstances shall the white non-woven
geotextile form part of the overlap seal.
At the edge of the tank or at any vertical plinths or bund walls apply a layer of
Rawpaste Mastic 100mm wide by 1-2mm thick to the base of the vertical face
around the whole circumference of the tank ring wall.

HANDLING & STORAGE
RAWMAT® HDB Type P1 is rolled on 50mm cores. Each roll is sealed in airtight stretch film. The rolls are packaged on end into boxes, each box containing 25 rolls. The boxes
are sealed with polythene box covers to weatherproof the box. Each box has a unique batch identification code.
The RAWMAT® HDB Type P1 should be stored and handled strictly in accordance with
the manufacturers instructions, given below. Palletised boxes may be stacked two high in their unopened state. The storage area should be dry and stable. Any RAWMAT® HDB
Type P1 damaged during the delivery, storage or handling shall not be incorporated in
the works.
Once opened the rolls must be stored under cover or protected with weatherproof sheets to prevent rain damage and drying out. Any part used roll can be re-wrapped and
can be re-used if it has been protected in plastic to prevent moisture loss or saturation from rainfall.
