Dear Liberty Basketball Supporter,
Thank you for attending our “first” annual Liberty Basketball golf event. Your Liberty
Basketball program has seen a number of firsts over the past two years but this inaugural golf
event is definitely one of our biggest highlights. Thanks to the efforts of a small few and your
participation and generosity this will be our biggest fundraiser.
As many of you know, last year our Varsity team advance to the 3A Sea-King District
Championships for the second time in the past two seasons. Prior to the 2012-13 season the
Patriots had not qualified for district in six seasons. Senior Kellen Birdsall developed into the
Kingco 3A’s leading scorer and was named unanimous first team all-conference and the Liberty
High School Rotary student-athlete of the year. The previous year Tynan Gilmore received both
honors as well. Under Coach Rob Marlow and Taylor Banks our JV and Frosh/Soph teams
BOTH had winning records this past season, setting the stage for a bright future.
Other highlights include: Seeing our summer youth camp numbers go from one camp of forty-
two boys and girls in 2012 to two camps of one hundred fifteen in 2013. Hosting our first ever
3 on 3 event last June we drew teams from all over Western Washington. Over 100 boys and
girls participated in a fun and competitive competition. In addition to summer camp, first
through sixth graders now have the opportunity to improve their skills in 5-week youth clinics in
both the spring and fall. Our staff work with these future stars but more importantly our high
school players volunteer at all camps and clinics serving as coaches and positive role models for
our kids. It is evident that our basketball program is gaining momentum at every level as we see
participation increasing and have had unprecedented successes on the court. Through Liberty
Basketball with your help we are making a difference.
Thanks to you, this event will bring in monies needed for uniforms, travel, spring, fall and
summer leagues. Your generosities subsidize travel to camps and in season and off season
tournaments and pay coaches for offseason efforts. Your support will provide scholarships to
events and camps for players that would not otherwise afford to participate and buy the best of
much needed equipment. This year we may upgrade our gym with the possible addition of glass
backboards, enhance our video capabilities and improve our team room.
Developing each individual remains paramount to our mission. I know we are in the midst of
something we all can and will recognize as very special. Thank you again for your contribution.

LIBERTY BASKETBALL
GOLF TOURNAMENT INFORMATION
The 2014 tournament will be held at Maplewood Golf Course
4050 Maple Valley Highway, Renton WA 425-430-6800
Please carpool to the course, Shuttle Express will be available after the event
Registration opens at 11:00 am
Free range balls and putting warm-up 11:30 am—12:30 pm on upper level
Tournament introduction and rules at 12:45 pm (in carts and ready to PLAY)
Shotgun start at 1:00 pm SHARP
Golf round ends at approximately 6:30 pm
No outside alcoholic beverages are allowed on the course
Banquet
Doors open at 5:30 pm for silent auction, banquet starts at 7:00 pm and ends at
approximately 9:00 pm
Master of Ceremony is Steve Kelley, formally of the Seattle Times and currently a
Liberty High School Basketball coach.
A Buffet dinner will be served at approximately 7:15 pm
Featured wines will be Tranche Cellars and Liberty School. Both are available for
purchase to enjoy at the banquet or to take home. Thank you Dennis Rattie for
the donation of the Tranche wine.
Silent Auction
Certain silent auction items are available for purchase now until May 28. They are
designated with a Pre-Event Buy-It Now Price. To buy the item, email Bob
Hanson at [email protected] and he will arrange for payment and delivery.
Payment must be received prior to the start of the golf tournament.

Golf overview
Freddie Couples Drive
On hole #10, you can purchase a Freddie Couples drive which will put you 321
yards down the fairway. You must purchase before you take your own drives and
all golfers in the foursome must purchase this. So improve your score and your
chances to win one of the four team prizes. Cost is $20 per team.
Red Tee Box Drive
Improve your score on hole #7 by moving up to the red tee markers or 45 yards
farther for women. Everyone in your group must purchase the Red Tee Box
Drive together. Cost is $20 per team.
Putting Contest
For $10, you will get two putts for a chance to win one of two prizes. If more
than two players make their putts, a raffle will determine the two winners. The
first name drawn will choose between a Callaway putter or a Callaway backpack
and $50 Maplewood gift card. Enter as often as time allows, the putting contest
will be open from 11:30 am until 6:15 pm.
3-Point Basketball Shot
A golf tournament for basketball would not be complete without a 3 point competition! $10 gives you a chance to make one of two free throws, make one and move to the 3 point line where you get two more shots. If you make the 3 you will be entered in a drawing to win one of two prizes including a Callaway Cart bag, or a Callaway backpack and $50 Maplewood gift card. Enter as often as time allows without slowing the pace of play. And yes, the New Basketball hoop fully assembled will be sold during the banquet. Batali Family Dinner and Va Piano Wine Tasting at
the McAllister Home in Newcastle

This is a six course Italian dinner featuring select recipes from the Batali family.
The Batali family has a deep history and tradition around food. In 1903, Angelo Sebastian Merlino, my great-grandfather, moved from Yakima and opened the first Italian grocery store in Seattle near Pioneer Square. His daughter, Leonetta (Grandma) Batali was my true inspiration for cooking. She would prepare incredible, multi-course meals for my cousins that included ravioli, gnocchi, salumi, tomato sauce, oxtails and tiramisu. Grandma taught me that “food is love!” In 1992, Uncle Armandino opened Salumi in Pioneer Square and began serving artisan crafted cured pork products. My father Dino was also an amazing cook whose specialties were sausage, pizzelle’s and lemoncello. In 1994, my cousin Mario Batali opened a small restaurant in New York City called Pó. We are still waiting for Mario’s career to take off.
The inspiration for a Tuscan-themed winery and tasting room came about after owner/winemaker Justin Wylie spent his senior year at Gonzaga University studying in Florence, Italy. He fell in love with the art, rustic architecture, culture, history, and warm hospitality he encountered there. Upon his return to the Walla Walla Valley (Justin is a fourth-generation native), his passion for wine making (and wine!) soon matched his passion for Tuscany and the seeds for Va Piano Vineyards were planted.
