Competition Time 9
1st Edition 2017 March 2017
The end of our financial year is 2 months away and whilst the days are few, the sales we need to achieve are HUGE. Why do our budgets get bigger and bigger each year, or rather, do we really need to grow sales each year, even if our economy is not growing? 1. If we are not growing, then we are
dying: competitors will be biting chunks out of us and with each chunk of flesh/sales we lose, we slow down until we eventually stop.
2. You can only do so much and then
you need to employ more people to help you: to employ means more costs and to afford these extra costs, we need to be growing.
3. We all want more money: paying
people more money means costs go up and again, if costs go up, we got to be growing to pay these increasing costs.
4. StonCor only employs proud people: proud people will always be on a winning team and if we stop growing and show no signs of being able to
grow, then the proudest people will leave. This means that the sales targets of StonCor Africa will continue to grow and we must em-brace this fact as we subscribe to the 4 points above. The starting point for growing our sales is to persuade the customers we already have, to buy more, as this is a lot easier than finding new customers. Easier because all we got to do is overwhelm them with our speed, accura-cy and excitement – all three of which are in our control.
Keep drinking Mampoer and let’s keep growing!

GROW, GROW, GROW
than 15 years ago "this Jo'burg is
not for us" and he replied "no, it is
for us and we like it until we go
home someday".
Ephraim has gone home and we
pray that the heart and soul of our
dear friend and colleague finds
rest.
Our sincere condolences to the
Vilakazi family.

It is with great sadness that we
inform you of the passing of our
employee Ephraim Nkosinathi
Vilakazi on 17 March 2017.
Ephraim joined the company as a
Filler in September 1994 and was
with StonCor Africa for 23 years
as a Senior Machine Operator.
He was a champion both in his
work and in his attitude. Ephraim
came up from Durban when we
closed our manufacturing opera-
tion in KZN and adjusted a lot
quicker to Jo'burg than I did - I
remember saying to him more

IN THE FIELD
Sasol Training
Sasol 2 and 3 has approxi-mately 35 Coating Quality Inspectors that inspect coating applications daily on site. We thought it would be a good idea to host a StonCor Africa training day on our new corrosion protection prod-
ucts. The aim was to educate the Coating Quality Inspectors so that they can identify applications where these products can be utilized and make recommendations to the responsible plant engineers. The Carboline products that were presented are products that are normally applied in a harsh corrosive petrochemical plant environment like Sasol especially, and are pretty high tech, modern systems that can save Sasol on annual maintenance spend and improve production output. Our training consisted of product train-ing with case histories discussed in detail, as
well as the physical application of the products at our premises by Johan Cronje.

HEALTH & SAFETY 4. Spice up our life
Certain spices help boost your metabo-lism i.e. turmeric, rosemary, oregano, garlic powder and paprika.
5. Grill, boil and steam
When preparing food, avoid frying and roasting. Also replace butter and margarine with olive oil.
6. Cut the fat in fatty meats
Trim the bigger bits of fat off the meat, as you finish browning meat use paper towel to blot the grease.
7. Feeling hungry
Don't allow yourself to get too hungry before you eat, you'll end up eating more than you would normally in a meal.
8. Licence to eat
Eat five or six smaller meals per day instead of three meals. Also, don't snack between meals.
9. Have a cup of green tea
Green tea has a positive effect on blood pressure, total cholesterol and body fat.
10. Add exercise to your daily rou-tine
♦ Gardening, weeding, mowing, loosening the ground.
♦ Vacuuming, window washing, mopping.
The beginning of the year bulge
Are you charging ahead to becoming a brand new person already?
I bet you are! Keep it up. You can already feel the difference and you can see the possibilities ahead.
At some point (it is different for every-one) you will feel like you're still doing all the right things, but you're not losing as much weight as you did previously.
I'm going to show you how to incorpo-rate some nuggets that will help you to lose weight and keep it off.
1. Audit your progress
If you set yourself a goal, break that goal down to monthly targets, then weekly targets, this way you can track your progress over shorter intervals and realign yourself when you veer off the program.
2. Treat yourself
Set an incentive for each milestone, set your first milestone at 2 kg and treat yourself to a healthy meal out with your family. When you lose the next 2 kg treat yourself to a day at the spa.
3. Lower the Glycaemic Index of your food
There is a little secret to lowering certain food G.I counts, take a look.....
Add a citrus fruit or grate an apple into the batter when baking.
Add barley or pearly wheat when cook-ing rice.
Add low fat yoghurt, cheese, vegeta-bles or fruit to a meal in which you have high G.I food.
Add an acid food like lemon or vinegar to your meal.
Add healthy fat to your meal (extra virgin olive oil, wheat germ oil, canola or flaxseed oil).
♦ Taking the stairs instead of the lift.
♦ Take your dog for a walk.
♦ Go dancing.
11. Chew your food well
12. Don't pick off the table
Place your food on a plate, this allows you to see how much you are eating.
13. Dilute your drinks
Drink a glass of water in between cocktails or other alcoholic drinks. Often drinking alcohol makes you eat more.
So there are your 13 nuggets to help you rev up your weight loss towards the New You!

HUMAN RESOURCES
STIFF DRINK
Like all things in life, 2016 has come to an end, giving each of us the opportunity to start anew in 2017.
Last year brought us unexpected flash floods, and this year ‘Cyclone Dineo’ came to give us a brief visit, all unexpected and unpleasant. However, it is up to us to turn the rest of the year into
something wonderful.
With Karessa gone to be with her little princess, I will be holding the fort until she re-turns. I see this year as a chance for us to make what we want of it, and to walk in the steps of people who continue to succeed.
Here is a stiff drink recipe that all successful people indulge in.
The ingredients are really simple, but the drink is extremely potent! The method can involve a lot of intensity, concentration and if by chance we miss an ingredi-ent, our cocktail will lose its potency.
2017 COCKTAIL RECIPE
Ingredients
25ml x knowledge 35ml x skills 15ml x ability 50ml x hard work Method: In a pot, pour 25mls of knowledge and slowly stir in 25mls of hard work, add 35mls skills and 15ml of ability, then pour in the remaining 25mls of hard work. Stir and heat until the desired serving temperature. If drink is not strong enough, or as desired, add an extra 50mls of hard work for the extra kick.
When done, serve and enjoy.
“May your coming year be filled with magic and dreams! May your stiff drink bring you many returns.”
Cheers to a productive 2017!

Midmar
Mile
The Midmar Mile started in 1974 with humble beginnings of 153 entrants and in 2011 the event, in which 13 755 competitors finished the race, was recognised by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's largest open water swimming event.
The event gains its name from the location of the swim at Midmar Dam and the distance being roughly one mile or 1.6km.
Jonathan Starmer swam his first Mid-mar Mile at the age of 15 in 1992 and swam every year (except for 2000 when he was working for Genrec Engineering in Mozambique), resulting in him being included into the relatively short list of "Midmar Greats" on completion of his 25th year at the event this past February.

The Bhubezi GIFE foundation (God is for everyone) was created by Bhu-bezi Projects to raise money through events such as their annual golf day to support charities of their choice. This year the sponsorship was award-ed to the Maria's, an organization that provide needy school kids with essential items such as books, clothing, shoes etc. With the help of their sponsors (including us here at StonCor), an amount of R100 000 was raised.
Well done to the Bhubezi team, lead by Mr. Jaco vd Berg and Mr. Chris du Randt, we salute you here from StonCor Africa, and are proud to be one of your supply partners.
