FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
It is hard to believe that we are well into the second half of
this term. With only a few weeks of school left we have still
many learning experiences both inside and outside the
classroom to accomplish.
Last Friday night’s Debutante Ball showed what can be
accomplished by such a small community. Please see Alex
Holt’s report in this week’s newsletter. One obvious thank
you that Alex leaves out of her report was the amazing work
she and the other Parents Association members put into the
backdrop, stage set up and displays around the hall. It was a
unique display of Lewis Carroll’s, ‘Alice in Wonderland’ that
was the result of many, many hours of work. The display
definitely made the night a special one for our debutantes.
Additionally, the Debutante Ball is well patronised by our
past students of the College. It is great to see so many come
back to share their support for the students making their
debut.
Students across the College will be preparing for their final
assessments. Students studying a Year 12 subject will sit the
General Assessment Task (GAT) next Tuesday, Year 11
students commence their semester examinations in the
coming weeks, while other year levels will have Common
Assessment Tasks in some of their subjects. Once these are
completed the final continuous report will be written for
students and parents. Previous continuous reports for this
semester can be found on Compass.

P-6 NEIGHBOURHOOD NUTS and ANAPHYLAXIS
Statistics show that peanuts and nuts are the most common
trigger for an anaphylactic reaction and fatality due to food
anaphylaxis. To minimise the risk of this, Wedderburn
College does not allow peanuts, nuts, peanut butter or other
peanut or nut products during in-school or out-of-school
activities.
All School Staff have a duty of care to take reasonable steps
to protect a student in their care from risks of injury. It is
important to remember that minimisation of the risk of anaphylaxis is everyone's responsibility: the School, Parents,
students and the broader school community.

choice of Netball, Minkey, Newcombe and Football. If your child is playing Minkey, they must have their own
mouthguard and protective equipment. The teams consist of students from different schools.
Your child will need to wear full school uniform and bring lunch, including water. We will leave at 9am and return by
3pm for the school buses.
We are in need of parents/guardians to volunteer to help to supervise, coach and support these sports. Please contact your
child’s classroom teacher or the P-6 co ordinator if you are able to volunteer your time on the day.
ADVOCACY FOCUS- POSITIVE RELATIONSHIPS
How to Develop Positive Relationships.......
1. Cooperating well Do your share and take your turn. Respect others’ opinions and share ideas. Be fair and think of
others. Negotiate if disagreements occur.
2. Being a good listener Pay attention. Don’t interrupt. Give a simple summary of what you have heard or ask a follow-
up question. Ask ‘Tell-me-more’ questions a lot more than questions that only require a yes/no answer. Take your
turn at talking too.
3. Being a good loser. If you lose in a game or if others don’t agree with you, just accept it. This doesn’t make you a
‘loser’.
4. Using good ways to get others to notice me. Be interesting. Be a good listener. Suggest good ideas. Use good
humour.
5. Being flexible. Fit in with new plans unless there is a good reason not to.

YEAR 7-10 NEIGHBOURHOOD WOW FOR WOMEN FEEDBACK
Mrs Bethany Takakis, from Inglewood and Districts Health Service, has asked me to pass on a huge thank you for the
Year 9 & 10 girls who helped set-up for the event on Monday. She also said the feedback from the ladies on Tuesday was
that the girls were lovely and engaged well on the day. Bethany hopes the girls enjoyed the day and would like to
continue helping out at future WOW Days. Well done girls.
SCHOOL UNIFORM A reminder that students are required to wear the correct school uniform at all times. Hoodies are not part of the school
uniform - even under school jumpers. Students can wear additional layers of clothes under their school uniform however
their school shirt or jumper must be the top layer. Any students seen with hoodies sticking out of their jumper will be
asked to remove it.

YEAR 10 DRIVER EDUCATION - PARENT INFORMATION SESSION
At the end of this term the Year 10s will be attending the Driver Education Centre in Charlton. On the Tuesday evening
(21st June) students complete a night drive. At the same time we offer the opportunity for parents to attend an
information session from the lead instructor of the Driver Training Centre. This session is an invaluable opportunity for
parents to learn how to support their child in becoming a safe driver. The information session will be held at the North
Central Trade Training Centre on Tuesday, 21st June, commencing at 6:30pm. Supper will be provided.
YEAR 10 WORK EXPERIENCE TRAINING SESSIONS
All Year 10 students need to attend training sessions before they go on work experience. Sessions will be held each
Friday in the Library for the remainder of the term. Sessions commence at the start of lunch time and go for approx. 30
minutes. It is mandatory that students undertake these training sessions.

YEAR 11-12 NEIGHBOURHOOD
Welcome to Week 8.
Our much anticipated Debutant Ball took place last Friday night at the Mechanics Institute Hall. Our debutantes, their
partners, flower girls and pageboys were wonderfully presented and showed us their fantastic dancing skills throughout
the night. Their chosen ‘Alice in Wonderland’ theme was well produced and enjoyed by everyone who attended. As
always, the Deb Ball was a fabulous opportunity for both our school and wider community to celebrate the
achievements and successes of our young people.
Each year, the debutantes, their partners, families, friends and our Parent’s Association undertake many hours of
preparation. Without their efforts and support we would not be able to have such a polished, well-produced evening. I
would like to especially thank our head dance instructor Mrs Dede Williams who was ably supported by Mrs Annette
McNamara and Mr Thomas Jackson. Together, they sacrificed many, many hours of their time to ensure that the
debutantes and their partners are presented in the best manner possible.
I would also like to extend a special thanks to Mr John Shaw, MC, Miss Kim Greenwell, and Mr Danny Fowles,
Chaperones who supported our students on the night.
The General Achievement Test (GAT) will take place next Tuesday, 7th June. All students involved in the GAT have
attended a meeting to discuss their requirements and expectations. Although the GAT begins at 10am all students are
expected to be at school by 9am. Regular classes will take place after lunch for all students.

CHAPLAIN’S CHAT
Our greenhouse project continues to develop quite quickly now and will soon be covered with greenhouse film. This
film filters the sun’s rays as they come through so that the light spreads evenly maximising growth within the enclosure.
At present we are attaching battens to the hoops so that they become rigid and support each other before we put the
covering on. The up cycled fridges are also being prepared for plumbing into the system.
The ‘Change It Up’ project also continues to move forward as the students involved come up with designs which will be
turned into templates, which will then be used to form artwork on some of the brick walls at Wedderburn Swimming
Pool. This project is funded and supported through the Loddon Shire and will continue over the coming years. Be
watching as these designs gradually take shape at the pool.

THE COMMUNITY HOUSE DRAMA GROUP PRESENTS
“We Open Tomorrow Night”
5.30pm
Friday 10th June 2016
Mechanics Institute Hall
Free entry – Supper provided
Students from Grade 2 to Year 7 have been attending drama classes after school on Wednesdays for several months.
They are busy rehearsing a short play and variety acts which will bring this year’s drama group classes to a conclusion.
Miss MacKay and Mrs Carolyn Stewart, Drama Teachers
HORTICULTURE Mr Hocking's Year 9/10 Horticulture Class wanted to wear a shirt that would allow the students to be recognised as
an individual group. One that would show leadership of who they were and what they had achieved.
A few designs were sketched by students: Bayden Lock and Gerard Dehne and a final decision was made by the whole
group about colour and what would go where.
Thank you to Uniform Plus for your patience and getting the shirts put together in a very short time frame.

WEDDERBURN DEBUTANTE BALL REPORT, 2016
The Wedderburn College Debutante Ball was a beautiful celebration of eight delightful Year 11 Wedderburn College
students’ presentation to society. Each couple was accompanied by an adorable flower girl or handsome page boy; each
of whom added an endearing dimension to the presentation as did the gorgeous main flower girl and page boy.
The theme of the evening was “An Alice in Wonderland Inspired Tea Party” which set the scene of enchantment that
resonated throughout the hall. Quotes from Lewis Carroll’s famous novel along with Wonderland characters, eclectic
antiques, decorative tea pots and teacups, a stunning “high tea” supper, an exquisite tiered cake made especially for the
occasion, embroidered lace table cloths and lots of clocks brought the fantastical theme to life.
Of course the evening would not have been possible without the contribution of many generous people.
A huge and sincere thank you goes to:
Dede Williams (dance instructor extraordinaire), who transformed ballroom dancing into something quite magical.
It was lovely of her to involve the page boys and flower girls in the final dance too – it was a huge hit with the
crowd!
Dede was assisted by the wonderful and much appreciated Annette McNamara and Thomas Jackson. Thomas
also organised the audio on the night and installed new L.E.D. lighting in the hall which was so fantastic of him.
The Wedderburn College Parents’ Association, which run the event every year, man the door and work tirelessly
in the kitchen on the night.
Mr John Shaw (W.C. Science teacher) who is a great entertainer (and ad-libber) who spoke so clearly and added
tasteful humour to the evening in his role as M.C.
Teachers, Danny Fowles and Kim Greenwell who were fabulous and dutiful chaperones – Kim showing off her
seamstress skills and Danny in full swing performing his Windsor knot necktie talent.
The Deb parents who organised so many things from flowers, to hunting down antiques, to cake decorating to en-
sure the Wonderland theme came to life. Special thanks to Deanne Caserta for her effort in finding a blue suit to
match the big Deb boys. You did an amazing job!
Maddison Holt for creating such a beautiful booklet enhanced by iconic Alice in Wonderland caricatures.
Cheryl Bailey who went to great lengths to decorate the main flower girl basket – it was absolutely gorgeous.
Wedderburn College Parents who provided supper and went out of their way in their offering of bedecked cup-
cakes, creamed muffins, ribbon sandwiches, Wonderland decorated biscuits and many other spectacular creations.
Your effort was greatly appreciated.
Amelia McIntyre for her astonishing collection of antiques.
Deb Parents and Attendants’ parents who took their children to all the practices and supported them with dress
fittings, suit adjustments etc.
Andy Banks photography and the band, Still Cruisin’ and Limelight Video Productions for supporting the even-
ing with their marvellous talents.
Joan Earl and Tina for helping with newsletter items and printing booklets etc. You always support extracurricu-
lar school events so generously.
The audience. It is a big night for the students involved in the Deb Ball and the students value the effort people
went to by turning up to support them.
All W.C. teachers who came along to support their students were truly appreciated also.
