Korean Delegation’s Visit to University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore

Korean Delegation at UET, Lahore:
A delegation from Korea comprising of nine faculty members and fifteen students from
various Korean universities paid a visit to University of Engineering and Technology,
Lahore recently. It was a two-day visit that lasted from 1st December to 2
nd December,
2015 in which the delegation did a number of activities such as attending and delivering
presentations, departments’ tours, interactions with the faculties and students, MOUs
signing, meeting with the Governor of the Punjab and to name a few.

Purpose of Visit:
The central purpose of Korean delegation behind this visit to University of Engineering
and Technology, Lahore was to have research collaborations and scholar exchange
program for which Memorandum of Understandings were signed between the two
entities – UET, Lahore and Korean Universities.
Two Days’ Activities:
The delegation spent a truly busy schedule during its two days’ visit to UET, Lahore. It
was really a pleasurable and worthwhile tour for them both officially and personally.
Day One (1st December, 2015): The distinguished guests were warmly welcomed by the
team management of Al-Khwarizmi Institute of Computer Science (KICS) at 10 a.m.
They were given an orientation by the Director KICS, Dr. Waqar Mahmood in Seminar
Hall at KICS.
Delegation was then taken to the various departments of UET e.g. Department of
Mechatronics and Control Engineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering,
Department of Electrical Engineering and Department of Product and Industrial Design
where the faculty and chairs of the respective departments gave a detailed briefing to the
delegation about the research they were carrying out in their respective departments.
Formal program started after the lunch break at about 3:00 p.m. with the recitation of the
Holy Quran and video encompassing the delegation’s tour. Dr. Waqar gave a briefing
about the importance of the seminar and ongoing research in KICS and Centre for Energy
Research and Development (CERAD). Prof. Dr. Fazal Ahmad Khalid, Vice Chancellor
of UET delivered a welcome speech, in which he thanked the Korean delegation for their
visit and emphasized the importance of research collaboration.
The vice chancellor then presented the souvenirs to the faculty and students of Korean
delegation.
In the second phase of the seminar, Mr. Ji.Y.Chang gave presentation on the topic of
‘What is Capston Design Project?’ (for details, see attached presentation on Capston
Design) and ‘Public Design of Bike Mounting Space’. The group photos were taken by
the end of the day.
Students from various departments of UET actively participated in the seminar and
showed their keen interest in the relevant presentations. The members of the delegation
along with UET officials then enjoyed a scrumptious dinner at Haveli restaurant sitting
on the roof with a very close eye-candidly mesmerizing view of the famous Badshahi
Mosque and Lahore Fort.
Day Two (2nd
December, 2015): The delegation started off their second day’s activity by
visiting Governor of the Punjab’s house in Lahore.
Delegation’s Visit at Governor of the Punjab’s House:
The delegation was invited at the Governor of the Punjab’s house. The members of the
delegation accompanied by the high officials of the University of Engineering and
Technology including Prof. Fazal Ahmad Khalid (Vice Chancellor UET, Lahore) and Dr.
Waqar Mahmood (Director KICS, UET Lahore) met Mr. Rafique Rajwana, Governor of
the Punjab on 2nd
December, 2015.
It was a pleasurable meeting with the Governor who appreciated the efforts made by both
UET and Korean universities for their collaborations/joint ventures about research and
scholar exchange programs. Mr. Rajwana also extended his support by offering the
funding in these collaborative works. By the end of the meeting, photo session along with
the respected Governor was taken place.
At 1100 hrs, Dr. Waqar Mahmood, Director Al-Khawarizmi Institute of Computer
Sciences (KICS), UET, Lahore, delivered a short presentation on introduction to the
University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore to the participants of the delegation
from Korea upon their arrival at the campus. The presentation included an introduction to
the institution and its history.
The presentation was then followed by lunch served at the Staff Colony Club.
After lunch, the Korean guests were taken to the Seminar Hall of Chemical Engineering
Department, where the Korean professors delivered presentations to the attendees about
different projects, which were underway in different Korean universities.

After the conclusion of presentations from guest participants, presentations from different
researchers of KICS UET, Lahore were delivered. While the presentations were in
progress, tea was also served to the guest participants.
Memorandum of Understanding Signing Ceremony:
Upon completion of the presentations, five MOUs were signed at the Vice Chancellor’s
(Dr. Fazal Ahmed Khalid) office. The details of the MOUs are given below:

Conclusion:
The delegation enjoyed its two-day official tour thoroughly. Their stay extended to few
more days during which they were taken to various locales in the city and outstation. On
official front, the joint collaborations between Korean universities and UET Lahore
turned out to be aptly lucrative.
