ADORATION ADORACIÓN

Thursday / Jueves 9AM to 6PM

As we begin the first week of Lent we are reminded of the three disciplines: fasting, prayer and almsgiving. Each of these disciplines are important for a spiritually healthy Lent. And while we also ways look forward to our East-er Sunday, the preparation for this celebration is practicing our Lent.

This year we are once more journeying with Matthew Kelly’s book, Redis-cover Jesus, as a way to help in our spiritual growth. A few years ago we shared this book with the community and we once more offer copies of the book to those who are new to St. Lucy and those who have misplaced their copy of the book. Each week we will be sharing small insights during the Sunday homily from the book and I would encourage you within your family or circle of friends share your own insights and answer the questions that Matthew Kelly gives to us to think about and rediscover who Jesus is in our life.

For example, in Chapter 5, we are asked “What’s holding you back from believing in Jesus completely?” This can be a hard question on many lev-els, for many of us it exposes doubts that we often don’t wish to share with others or even acknowledge in our thoughts. It is in these moments con-versations with others can bolster our faith. (Continued on page 5...)

Our call to be Hand In Hand In Ministry is a call to each of us to support the work of our Catholic Church in the Diocese of San Jose. It is our hope that each member of our parish prayerfully consider how they are best able to support this years ADA. Please take a pledge card found at the doors of the church.

(Pastor’s Notes Continued form page 1)

In a recent survey of those who no longer attend Mass or have left the faith one of the major reasons was they had no one who they could talk about faith and their doubts in understanding how God was calling them. Sharing our faith, especially with family, helps all of us become better disciples of Jesus Christ. We can see this as a way to give alms…to share the gift of faith we have with others.

On a second note: we continue our Annual Diocesan Appeal (ADA) Hand In Hand In Ministry supporting our diocesan and parish ministries. We ask that all families participate in the ADA either with a monetary pledge or praying for the success of the campaign. Each pledge not matter how large or small is a true blessing from God and the prayers offered for the ADA help us as the local Church of San Jose follow the command of Je-sus to serve our brothers and sisters with joy.

Lastly, progress on the St. Lucy Capital Campaign Renewed in the Light are moving forward. The Diocesan Building Committee has approved the architectural plans. The first project will be the lighting in the church building. We hope to begin this project this summer followed by our other projects. I thank each of you for your continued support of our parish and ask for your continued prayers.

God bless, Fr. Mark

CRS RICE BOWL

Encounter Norma For young families living in the mountains of Guatemala, raising a baby can be difficult. Most families grow corn and beans for a living, but a long drought has reduced harvests. There are few job opportunities, which means that putting food on the table is a daily challenge. That's why, when Norma discovered she was pregnant, she wondered how she would manage. "When I was young, my mom and dad did not have the money to buy a lot of food," she says. "My mother would divide an egg among four children." Norma wanted more for her son, Victor. But at 20, he did not have much experience beyond helping his mother at home. Then, she sought help. She found it in a program sponsored by CRS that teaches young mothers how to raise healthy children, grow nutritious foods in small gardens and manage a healthy diet. In addition, CRS provided Norma with food during her pregnancy and monthly medical check-ups during the first two years of Victor's life. "I learned many beautiful things," says Norma. "I learned how to take care of my son and what foods to give him so he can grow healthy and strong." Now, Norma shares what she learned with others as a "mother monitor". "I am proud to share the experience I had and the lessons I learned with other women," she says. It makes Norma proud and makes her community a better place to raise a family.
