AUSTIN THE DEER-HUNTER

Ever since Randy went deer-hunting in Idaho this October, Austin has become a ferocious deer-hunter himself. He continuously plays at hunting deer either with this toy shot gun or Nerf attack weapons. The young girls who babysit the Little As on Tuesday nights good-naturedly take turns playing deer as he chases them around the house and shoots at them. We have given up hope on teaching him that this behavior is not "politically correct." He goes so far as to sleep with his gun at his side and sometimes insists on sleeping with his shoes on over his sleeper pajamas. He will make a good cowboy.

When Austin is not hunting deer, he is playing baseball. He refuses to hit off a tee, opting instead for a pitched ball. He hits a decent number of balls when Dad's on the mound, but when relief pitcher Mom takes over, his average plummets. But boy can he throw a ball! He is even more accurate than grown-up Mom.

AUTUMN TURNS 2!

Yes, it is hard to believe, but our youngest is now two and terrible at that. She is very stubborn and opinionated, a classic two-year-old. She started preschool with her big brother Austin and now the "Little As" terrorize the school. She has 2 terrific teachers who truly understand her and adore all her quirks, but deftly discourage her temper tantrums (which can be dousies!).

Autumn is a Daddy's girl and very jealous if he pays attention to anyone else, especially her brothers. She greets everyone she passes with a "Hi!" and a wave, persistent until she draws the person out of his/her shell with a return salutation. With her outgoing personality and charming smile, she wins over many an adult.

(AUSTIN: cont'd from page 1) Austin is learning phonics and at age 3 can sign the letter 'A' in his name. And he is proud to have Autumn at school with him. On her first day big brother was 'caught' lying on the hall floor, trying to look under her room door to make sure she was okay. At nap time on the 2nd day he lay down next to her on her cot and held her until she fell asleep. Austin charms all with tiis caring and fun-loving nature.

(KYLE: cont'd from prior column) and both times earned MVP. He competes all-out without the boredom or the short attention span of most 6 year-olds. His soccer moves rivaled the pros eventhough he had only seen 3 games on TV, all broadcast in Spanish. His only fault is that he covers all the positions single-

handedly beating out his teammates to make the play, scoring goals for his team, but missing the concept of teamwork.

Kyle is a sports-fanatic and would love to spend hours glued to the TV following his teams if allowed. He argues with the refs and usually ends up being right. During commercials he shoots a few baskets in the garage; and, after seeing Michael Jordan in Space Jam, has perfected the under-the-ball cradle.

Little As come home. She gets the best of both worlds with this schedule - a rewarding career and an active role schooling Kyle. She also takes vacation days from work to assist on field trips at both the kids' schools as often as possible which lets her see the world through their eyes. So far the juggling act is working.

Boise. Although he was out stalking bucks for 5 days, the weather was warm and hindered the effort. Ultimately he came back empty-handed, but with many memories and stories to share with the boys. We later learned that he spent several hours lost in the mountains and miles away from civilization. But his wilderness training staved off panic and helped him find the direction home. Finally he found some locals on a Quadrunner who returned him to camp - 4 valleys over.

Randy has now returned to a more mundane life at Rain Bird Sprinklers, coaching Kyle's Little League or Soccer teams in his "free time." He is so popular with the kids that the parents specially request him for the next seasons!
