Orquestra de Macau – Nota Biográfica -------------

Onde o Oriente Encontra o Ocidente, o Passado Liga-se ao Presente ---------------------

Fundada em 1983, a Orquestra de Macau (OM) é uma orquestra profissional dependente

do Instituto Cultural do Governo da R.A.E de Macau. A Orquestra é actualmente um

agrupamento eminente na Ásia, com um repertório que inclui clássicos chineses e

ocidentais de todos os tempos. Desempenha um papel chave na vida cultural e musical

dos cidadãos de Macau e dos visitantes. ------------------------------------------------------

Em 2001, a Orquestra foi ampliada de forma a integrar um naipe duplo de sopros,

actualmente tem se desenvolvido como uma orquestra de dimensão média de cerca

de 60 músicos de mais de dez países e regiões. Em 2008, o Maestro Lü Jia iniciou

as funções de Director Musical e Maestro Principal da Orquestra e deu início às

temporadas de concertos da Orquestra, apresentando em cada uma ao público, de

forma abrangente e sistemática, cerca de 70 concertos diversos de música clássica

ocidental e chinesa. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

A Orquestra colabora frequentemente com músicos, maestros principais e agrupamentos

de música internacionais, incluindo Pláciado Domingo, Krystian Zimerman, Stephen

Kovacevich, Boris Berezovsky, Leonidas Kavakos, Barry Douglas, Iván Martín, Fou

Ts’ong, Lang Lang, Yundi Li, Sarah Chang, Ning Feng, Jian Wang, Tan Dun, Daniel Oren,

Teatro Regio Torino, English National Ballet, Philadelphia Orchestra, Ópera Nacional

da Letónia, Teatro Nacional de Ópera e Ballet da Letónia, e Orquestra de Câmara da

Coreia, etc. Além disso, a Orquestra de Macau tem sido regularmente convidada para

se apresentar no Interior da China e no exterior, participando no Brucknerfest 2015, na

Áustria, como representante da China, e no Festival de Música “La Folle Journée au

Japon 2016” e visitando pelo menos 30 cidades na China, bem como vários países,

incluindo a Áustria, Suíça, Hungria, Portugal, Espanha, E.U.A. Japão e Coreia. A sua

qualidade refinada é aclamada por unanimidade e é testemunho da sua importância

A Orquestra tem-se também dedicado a actividades de educação artística e de

promoção comunitária, organizando os ciclos de concertos “Música para Todos”,

“Gostar de Música, Realizar o Sonho”, “Gostar de Música, Partilhar a Alegria” e “Gostar

de Música, Desfrutar a Arte”, visitando escolas e comunidades a fim de fomentar o

interesse de público na música clássica e de ajudar jovens músicos a realizar os seus

About Macao Orchestra -------------------------------

Where East Meets West, Past Connects with Present ------------------------------------------

Formed in 1983, the Macao Orchestra is a professional ensemble under the auspices of

the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao S.A.R. Government. The Macao Orchestra is now

a distinguished orchestra of Asia, performing Chinese and Western classics throughout

the times. It has also played a key role in the music and cultural life of Macao residents

and overseas audiences. --------------------------------------------------------------------------

In 2001, the Orchestra was extended into an orchestra with double winds; today, it has

developed into a small-to-medium-sized orchestra of around 60 outstanding musicians

from more than ten countries and regions. In 2008, Maestro Lü Jia commenced his tenure

as Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Orchestra, initiating the convention of

‘Concert Seasons’ and in each season 70 different concerts would be held, presenting to

the public, comprehensively and systematically, classics from both Western and Chinese.

The Orchestra collaborates regularly with numerous internationally renowned musicians,

conductors and ensembles including Pláciado Domingo, Krystian Zimerman, Stephen

Kovacevich, Boris Berezovsky, Leonidas Kavakos, Barry Douglas, Iván Martín, Fou

Ts’ong, Lang Lang, Yundi Li, Sarah Chang, Ning Feng, Jian Wang, Tan Dun, Daniel Oren,

the Teatro Regio Torino, the English National Ballet, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the

Latvian National Opera, the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre, and the Korean

Chamber Orchestra, etc. In addition, the Macao Orchestra has regularly been invited

to perform in Mainland China and overseas, participating in the 2015 Austria Bruckner

Festival as China’s representative and attending the music festival “La Folle Journee au

Japon” in Japan 2016, leaving its footprints in at least 30 cities across China as well as

Austria, Switzerland, Hungary, Portugal, Spain, the U.S.A., Japan and Korea, etc. The

refined quality of the Orchestra is unanimously acclaimed, testifying to Macao Orchestra’s

significance as a symbol of Macao’s prosperity as an international cultural city. ------------

Meanwhile, the Orchestra has been endeavouring to invest in creativity and vitality in

terms of music education and community promotion, organising a series of “Music for

All”concerts such as “Love music, Catch Dream”, “Love music, Share Joy”, and “Love

music, Enjoy Arts”. The Orchestra also visits schools, community and the underprivileged

groups in order to enlarge the audience base of classical music and even help young

Actualmente considerado um dos mais jovens e mais interessantes maestros da nova geração,

Roberto Gianola deu início, num curto espaço de tempo, a várias colaborações importantes com

orquestras de todo o mundo, sendo frequentemente convidado para dirigir concertos nos EUA,

Rússia, México, Áustria, França, Turquia, Espanha, Portugal, Hungria, República Checa, Ucrânia,

Bulgária, Roménia, Brasil, Venezuela, Egipto e Emirados Árabes Unidos. Aos 34 anos, Roberto

estreou-se no prestigiado Carnegie Hall, em Nova Iorque, dirigindo um concerto de grande

sucesso no Auditório Stern/ Palco Perelman, em Janeiro de 2009. -----------------------------------

Recentemente, foi nomeado maestro da Ópera de Istambul, onde, em Fevereiro, dirigiu, com

grande aclamação, a ópera Os Contos de Hoffmann, estando ainda prevista a apresentação de

várias obras do repertório operático, sinfónico e de bailado, ao longo de 2016. Roberto acaba de

apresentar, com grande sucesso, a ópera O Quebra-Nozes, de Tchaikovsky. Em Março de 2015,

recebeu um prémio prestigiado como maestro italiano no Teatro Regio de Parma, onde dirigiu o

Grande Prémio da Ópera, o qual contou com a presença da célebre soprano Fiorenza Cedolins.

Tendo-se especializado em ópera, Roberto já apresentou várias obras do repertório operático

tradicional, incluindo: La traviata, Nabucco, Rigoletto, II trovatore, Aida, Madama Butterfly, Tosca,

etc. Não podemos também deixar de referir o grande sucesso de Roberto em Seul, onde o

maestro dirigiu a ópera La traviata no Centro de Artes de Seul, com Mariella Devia. ----------------

Em 2013, participou na produção de Nabucco na Ópera de Pequim, com Placido Domingo,

tendo ainda participado na preparação do Requiem de Verdi, na Arena di Verona, como

assistente do Maestro Chung. Em Setembro, actuou com grande sucesso no Lincoln Center, em

Nova Iorque, com a soprano lírica She Na. Em 2014, estreou-se na temporada de ópera na Arena

di Verona, dirigindo A Viúva Alegre, no Teatro Filarmonico di Verona. --------------------------------

Roberto Gianola foi o primeiro maestro italiano a ter dirigido um robô durante um concerto

realizado em Palermo com a Orquestra Sinfónica Siciliana, no Teatro Politeama. Entre os seus

próximos compromissos, contam-se concertos e óperas na Turquia, República Checa, China e

Itália, bem como a sua estreia no Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, com Carmen e Tosca. Em Novembro

Roberto gravou um CD Stradivarius com a Orquestra I Pomeriggi Musicali de Milão, tendo

ainda acabado de lançar um novo CD com música de Respighi para a revista Amadeus, em

Currently considered one of the youngest and most interesting Conductors of the new

generation, he started in a short time period important collaborations with orchestras all over the

world who repeatedly invite him to direct in the USA, Russia, Mexico, Austria, France, Turkey,

Spain, Portugal, Hungary, Czech Republic, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Romania, Brazil, Venezuela, Egypt

and the United Arab Emirates . At age 34 he made his debut in the prestigious Carnegie Hall in

New York where he conducted in January 2009 with great success in the Stern / Perelman Hall.

Recently, He was appointed to Conduct at the Opera of Istanbul where he conducted in February

with great success of Tales of Hoffmann and which will be featured throughout 2016 in both the

opera, ballet and symphonic repertoire. He has just been a great success with Nutcracker by

Tchaikovsky. In March 2015 he received a prestigious award as Italy Conductor at the Teatro

Regio in Parma, where he conducted the Grand Prix of the Opera with the presence of the

Specializing in opera, he has already conducted several replicas in all the traditional Opera such

Nascido em 1973, começa a estudar o violino com o Maestro George Monch e estreia-se como

solista aos 13 anos na Orquestra Filarmónica Zofinghen (Itália). He is now the Concertmaster of

Depois de obter o seu diploma com notas máximas aos 17 anos, continua os seus estudos com

os professores Pavel Vernikov, llia Grubert e Marco Rizzi e em aulas de mestre com Z. Giles, V.

Vencedor de muitas concursos internacionais de violino (G.B. Viotti, Vittorio Veneto, G.

作 曲 家 ， 在 管 弦 樂 領 域 ， 除 了 六 首 傑 出 的 交 響 曲 、 一 首 標 題 交 響 曲 《 曼 弗 雷

德 》 、 四 部 管 弦 樂 組 曲 外 ， 還 寫 有 多 首 單 樂 章 管 弦 樂 曲 ， 《 意 大 利 隨 想 曲 》 即

是 其 中 之 一 。 “ 隨 想 曲 ” 一 詞 的 含 義 從 古 至 今 始 終 非 常 寬 泛 ， 並 不 是 某 種 採 用

Luis Bacalov: -------------------------------------------------------- Concerto para Violino e Orquestra

Luis Bacalov é um compositor italiano nascido na Argentina autor principalmente de músicas para

filmes. O seu nome está dominantemente associado ao género de filmes americanos sobre a

"Faroeste à Italiana" e de filmes criminais italianos, tendo sido nomeado duas vezes para o Óscar

da Academia para o Enredo Original, primeiramente pela música The Gospel According to St.

Matthew de Pier Pasolini de 1967, vencedor em 1996 pelo filme Il Postino. O legendário director

Quentin Tarantino usou também as suas canções no filme Kill Bill e Django Unchained. ------------

Para além de música para filmes, Bacalov também compôs para coros e orquestra. Um dos seus

mais significativos trabalhos neste género consiste no Misa Tango (1997), um trabalho que realiza

uma adaptação linguística da Missa aos ritmos do tango da Argentina, seu país natal. A obra foi

estreada em 2000 tendo por solista nada mais do que Placido Domingo. --------------------------------

O Concerto de Violino está repleto de ritmos de tango. O primeiro movimento começa com um

intrigante ritmo, mas é essencialmente lírico. O segundo movimento, em contraste, é rítmico e cria

através da repetição de elementos rítmicos uma espécie de tensão habitual nos filmes do Oeste. Não

deixa todavia de dispor de momentos líricos, quando o solista tem a oportunidade de desenvolver

melodias memoráveis. O terceiro movimento é marcadamente nocturno excepto num breve

momento intercalar de natureza rítmica. O quarto movimento soa propriamente como um triunfante

enlace e proporciona ao solista uma pluridade de oportunidades para exibir virtuosismo técnico. ----

Pyotr Il’yich Tchaikovsky: ----------------------------------------------------- Capricho Italino, Op. 45

Itália foi uma fonte favorita de inspiração, conforto e felicidade para muitos compositores do

norte. Berlioz ficou encantado com Roma, ficando lá depois de ganhar o prestigiado Prix Roma.

Mendelssohn encontrou inspiração, durante a sua permanência em Itália, para escrever uma das

suas obras mais turbulentas, a Sinfonia italiana. Sibelius, propenso à melancolia, encontrou um

ambiente favorável em Itália e produziu uma radiante Segunda Sinfonia. Tchaikovsky foi lá duas

vezes, primeiro em 1877 para curar seu nervosismo devido ao seu desastroso casamento com

Antonina Miliukova, o qual foi uma tentativa de curar sua homossexualidade, e em seguida, em 1879.

Foi durante a segunda viagem que se inspirou por via das músicas e sons que ouviu para

compor uma "Fantasia italiana." Tchaikovsky começou a compor em 16 de janeiro (O.S.) 1880,

final ficaram por identificar. Qualquer que fosse a fonte, Tchaikovsky combinou-as com sucesso

num emocionante e brilhante trabalho integral e o tema principal, que aparece em momentos

Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov: -------------------------------------------------- Capricho espagñol, Op. 34

A contribuição de Rimsky-Korsakov na harmonia e orquestração ainda hoje é admirada. Os seus

livros didáticos ainda são usados em todo o mundo. O compositor tinha uma audição refinada

para cores orquestrais desde tenra idade tendo ficado impressionado com a orquestra logo na

primeira ópera em que ele participou. A obra Caprício Espanhol é um excelente exemplo. Foi

composta em 1887, usando temas espanhóis como material. Espanha era um símbolo favorito

do exotismo para os europeus, e como tal os compositores mostram suas habilidades de

orquestração em peças exóticas. ------------------------------------------------------------------------

A estrutura do Caprício Espanhol oferece a Rimsky-Korsakov muitas dessas oportunidades. É

uma obra ininterrupta com cinco movimentos. Começa com uma emocionante "Alborada", uma

dança asturiana que enaltece o nascer do sol. Depois o segundo movimento é caracterizado

por uma ansiosa melodia, com variações. A "Alborada" retorna e oferece temporariamente

um desfecho. O quarto movimento é composto de uma série de cadências, primeiro para as

trompas e trompetes, e em seguida para violino solo, flauta, clarinete e harpa. A forte percussão

apimenta a música, e as cordas são compelidas a imitar as guitarras. O quinto movimento,

uma dança enérgica, leva a obra a um brilhante final. --------------------------------------------------

O próprio Rimsky-Korsakov, no entanto, não ficou satisfeito por apenas a orquestração ter sido

Besides film music, Bacalov also composes for chorus and orchestra. One of the most

significant works in this genre is Misa Tango (1997), a work that sets a Spanish-language

adaptation of the Mass to the tango rhythms of his native Argentina. It was premiered in 2000

with no less than Plácido Domingo as a soloist. -----------------------------------------------------

The Violin Concerto is also full of tango rhythms. The first movement begins with an intriguing

rhythm, but is mainly lyrical. The second movement, in contrast, is rhythmic and creates

through repetition of rhythmic cells the kind of tension one might expect from Western

movies. It is not without lyrical moments though, when the soloist has the chance to spin out

memorable melodies. The third movement is nocturnal throughout except for a brief moment

of rhythmic stirring in the middle. The fourth movement properly sounds like a triumphant

winding up and offers the soloist plenty of opportunities for technical display. -------------------

Pyotr Il’yich Tchaikovsky: -------------------------------------------------- Capriccio Italien, Op. 45

Italy was a favorite source of inspiration, comfort and happiness for many composers from

the north. Berlioz was amazed by Rome, overstaying there after winning the prestigious Prix

Rome. Mendelssohn was inspired by his sojourn there to write one of his most boisterous

works, the Italian Symphony. Sibelius, prone to gloominess, found comfort in Italy and

produced a sunny Second Symphony. Tchaikovsky went there twice, first in 1877 to cure his

nerve which was wrecked by his disastrous marriage with Antonina Miliukova, an attempt to

cure his homosexuality, and then in 1879. ------------------------------------------------------------

It is during the second trip that he was inspired by the tunes and sounds he heard there to

compose an “Italian Fantasia.” He began composing it on Jan 16 (O.S.) 1880, and one week

later, he reported to Madame von Meck, his patroness: “I have already prepared in rough

my Italian Fantasia on folk themes, which it seems to me, might be predicted to have a good

future. It will be effective, thanks to its delightful tunes, some of which were chosen from

collections, and some of which I heard myself on the streets.” ------------------------------------

The work assumed the title Capriccio Italien in the end. It begins with a trumpet fanfare he

heard during his stay in Rome, living besides a barrack. After that comes a seemingly random

sequence of unforgettable melodies. Although Tchaikovsky claimed that they came from

anthologies and the streets of Italy, according to Philip Huscher of Chicago Symphony, none

but the final tarantelle has been identified. Wherever the source, Tchaikovsky successfully

mingles them into an exciting and brilliant whole, with the main theme appearing at important

moments as structural pillars. --------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov: ---------------------------------------------- Capriccio espagnol, Op. 34

Rimsky-Korsakov’s contribution in harmony and orchestration is still admired today. His

textbooks are still used worldwide. He had a distinctive ear for orchestral colors at an early

age, impressed by the orchestra at the first opera he attended. Capriccio espagnol is a prime

example. It was composed in 1887, using Spanish themes as material. Spain was a favorite

symbol of exoticism for Europeans, and composers tend to show off their orchestration skills

in exotic pieces. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The structure of Capriccio espagnol provides Rimsky-Korsakov plenty of such opportunities.

It is in five uninterrupted movements. It begins with an exciting “alborada,” an asturian dance

celebrating sunrise. A yearning melody, with variations, dominate the second movement.

“Alborada” returns and temporarily winds things up. The fourth movement is composed of a

series of cadenza, first for the horns and trumpets, then the solo violin, flute, clarinet and the

harp. Heavy percussion adds strong seasoning to the music, and strings are asked to play “like

guitars.” The fifth movement, a fervent dance, brings the work to a brilliant close. ---------------

Rimsky-Korsakov himself, however, was not pleased that only the orchestration was praised

by the critics. He argued that orchestration here is more than a garment of the music: “The

change of timbres, the felicitous choice of melodic designs and figuration patterns, exactly

suiting each kind of instrument, brief virtuoso cadenzas for instruments solo, the rhythm of the

percussion instruments, etc., constitute here the very essence of the composition and not its

Peter and the Wolf is a classic music composition for children by Sergei Prokofiev. But why does

it involve the platypus? Established in 1989, Platypus Theatre from Canada has brought joy and

musical inspiration to children from all over the world for years. The programme will surely bring a
