ExpositionServing as the exposition in the
opening of the novel, the narrator, Ponyboy, introduces
the two rivalry gangs, the Socials and greasers who are
continuously at war throughout the book. The Socials are the
rich kids from the West-side, that have everything handed to them. The Greasers on the other hand, are the low-class hood kids from the East-side, who live the hard
knock life.
