2 Corinthians 5:1-51Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is

destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. 2Meanwhile we groan, longing to be

clothed with our heavenly dwelling, 3because when we are clothed, we will not be found naked.

4For while we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened, because we do not wish to be

unclothed but to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling, so that what is mortal may be

swallowed up by life. 5Now it is God who has made us for this very purpose and has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to

come.

1. What happens when you die?a. Is death my friend? NO!!

Romans 5:12Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way

death came to all men, because all sinned.

1. What happens when you die?a. Is death my friend? NO!!

1 Corinthians 15:20-2620But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21For since death came through a man, the resurrection of

the dead comes also through a man. 22For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. 23But

each in his own turn: Christ, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him. 24Then the

end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion,

authority and power. 25For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. 26The last enemy

tobe destroyed is death.

1. What happens when you die?b. What is my friend, then?!

1. What happens when you die?b. What is my friend, then?!

1 Corinthians 15:42-4942So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised

imperishable; 43it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in

power; 44it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. 45So it is written: “The first

man Adam became a living being”; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit. 46The spiritual did not

come first, but the natural, and after that the spiritual.

1. What happens when you die?b. What is my friend, then?!

1 Corinthians 15:42-4947The first man was of the dust of the earth, the second man from heaven. 48As was the earthly

man, so are those who are of the earth; and as is the man from heaven, so also are those who are

of heaven. 49And just as we have borne the likeness of the earthly man, so shall we bear the

likeness of the man from heaven.

1. What happens when you die?c. Is there a judgment?

Revelation 20:11-1511Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from his

presence, and there was no place for them. 12And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before

the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had

done as recorded in the books.

1. What happens when you die?c. Is there a judgment?

Revelation 20:11-1513The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to

what he had done. 14Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. 15If anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the

lake of fire.

1. What happens when you die?c. Is there a judgment?

John 3:16-1816For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17For God did not

send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

18Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned

already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.

1. What happens when you die?d. Is there a “lag”?

Page 18: 2 Corinthians 5:1-5 1 Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built.

1. What happens when you die?d. Is there a “lag”?

1 Corinthians 15:50-5850I declare to you, brothers, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the

perishable inherit the imperishable. 51Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be

changed—52in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be

changed. 53For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality.

54When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then

the saying that is written will come true:

Page 19: 2 Corinthians 5:1-5 1 Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built.

1. What happens when you die?d. Is there a “lag”?

1 Thessalonians 4:15-1815According to the Lord’s own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16For the Lord himself will come down

from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. 18Therefore

encourage each other with these words.

1. What happens when you die?d. Is there a “lag”?

Philippians 1:20-2420I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my

body, whether by life or by death. 21For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. 22If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! 23I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; 24but it is

more necessary for you that I remain in the body.

Luke 23:40-4340But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you

fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence? 41We are punished justly, for we are

getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.” 42Then he said, “Jesus,

remember me when you come into your kingdom.” 43Jesus answered him, “I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise.”

2 Corinthians 5:11Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is

destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human

hands.

2 Corinthians 5:2-42Meanwhile we groan, longing to be clothed with

our heavenly dwelling, 3because when we are clothed, we will not be found naked. 4For while we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened,

because we do not wish to be unclothed but to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling, so that what

3. Groaning at the campsite

Romans 8:22-2622We know that the whole creation has been groaning

as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. 23Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the

firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. 24For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for

what he already has? 25But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently. 26In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not

know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words

cannot express.

4. Waiting…

2 Corinthians 5:55Now it is God who has made us for this very

purpose and has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.
