SATURDAY CAST SUNDAY CAST Wednesday, May 22nd Thursday, May 23rd Dress Rehearsal is mandatory for all students participating in Dance Party 2013. If you are performing in both casts (Saturday and Sunday), you must attend both rehearsal days. All dancers must report to the California Center for the Arts, Escondido ready to perform at least 45 minutes prior to the assigned time. Rehearsal times are approximate. Please be sure to arrive on time, dance numbers cannot be rerun for late arriving students. NOTE: The 78 freeway can back up frequently. Be sure to allow yourself plenty of time to for any traffic issues. At times we may run slightly ahead of schedule. You might have “back to back” dances on rehearsal day (we do not rehearse in “show order”) please make Miss Jana aware so that we can accommodate. For rehearsal only: No one will be permitted to enter the theater through the lobby of the Center for the Arts, Escondido. All performers and parents will enter the theater through the backstage at the Dancer Pick Up door Please refer to Diagram of Backstage Area in this packet. Performers should arrive dressed in their first, or only, costume including any accessories. Each dress rehearsal may last 6 - 8 hours in total. Once your child’s dance has rehearsed, you are welcome to watch the rest of rehearsal or you are free to leave. CITY OF ESCONDIDO FIRE CODE: Attention Moms & Dads!! Due to strict fire & safety codes, absolutely no strollers or baby carriers are allowed inside the theater. Any stroller or child carrier that cannot be placed in a seat without blocking the interior aisle must be left outside of the theater area. We must adhere to this policy, as the city will be inspecting the venue and any violations will cause our removal from the CCAE. We greatly appreciate your cooperation with this very important issue. DRESSING ROOMS: Dancers w/ 1 dance and no costume changes: These dancers are to arrive dressed in their costume and wait in the audience until their dance is called up on stage.

Dancers w/ multiple dances (12 years and under): These dancers will use the Rehearsal Room/Dance Studio as one big dressing room. Costume racks are allowed at the rehearsal. Please do not hang costumes on ballet barres and no food/drink is allowed. Please be considerate of other dancers who also need a place to change by making room for everybody and keeping the room neat & orderly.

Dancers w/ multiple dances (13 years or older): These dancers can use any of the 3 upstairs dressing rooms for rehearsal days. These dressing rooms are reserved for dancers who are self-sufficient and don’t need the assistance of a parent.

Male Dancers: All male performers can use the men’s locker room for any costume changes. CCAE FOOD & DRINK POLICY: Absolutly no food or drink is allowed in the seating area. Dancers may have water and a light snack in the dressing rooms. Please be sure to clean up any trash that is left behind. PHOTOGRAPHY & VIDEOTAPING: Photography and videotaping is permitted on rehearsal days only. Please no flash for dancer’s safety.

PURCHASING TICKETS Tickets are $20.00ea and are assigned seats. Box seats will be priced at $25.00ea and you must purchase the entire box for that performance (boxes have 4-6 seats). All tickets will be sold through the box office at California Center for the Arts, Escondido. Be advised that all persons entering the theater, including babes in arms, infants and children sitting on laps require a ticket in compliance with CCAE and the City of Escondido fire codes. Complimentary tickets will be available for children 3-years and under that do not require their own seat for the performance. This means the child would sit in a lap for the entire show. Dancers who wish to view either the 1st or 2nd half of the show, depending on when their dance is scheduled, will need to purchase a ticket and enter through the front lobby area (no costumes allowed) same as all audience members. Ticket sales begin on Saturday, April 20th. Tickets can be purchased only from the Center for the Arts, Escondido box office. Carlsbad Dance Centre does not sell recital tickets. Tickets can be purchased via three different methods: 1) visiting CCAE’s box office in person 2) phone the CCAE box office 3) purchase online (see the online instructions sheet in this packet). Be advised that phone and online orders are subject to convenience/service fees. Ticket sales will begin promptly at 12:00 noon. For your convenience, Carlsbad Dance Centre has arranged for online purchases through the Center for the Arts, Escondido website www.artcenter.org PLEASE NOTE: tickets are NOT available through Ticketmaster, only the CCAE website. There is a $3.50 charge per seat/ticket and a $3.50 charge for your entire order when you purchase tickets online. A seating diagram is included in this packet to assist you with your ticket selection. For tickets information please call 800-988-4253. Be advised, the box office will NOT accept personal checks. PURCHASING RECITAL TICKETS ONLINE 1. Go to www.artcenter.org & Click on “PERFORMANCES / EVENTS”.

2. Scroll down to “May” till you see the Carlsbad Dance Centre Recital logo.

3. Find the performance day/time you want and click on blue link.

4. Enter the # of tickets, click “CONTINUE”. Check your ticket selection and invoice and click ‘CONTINUE”.

5. New customers will need to create a profile. To create a profile click “CONTINUE” and follow prompts. NOTE: You will have a certain amount of time to complete your order. Enter your credit card information and choose the method of delivery. Tickets purchased 10-days or less to a performance will be available for pickup at the CCAE box office will call window 2-hours prior to curtain time on the day of the event. If you purchase multiple performances and any fall with that 10-day window, ALL of your tickets will be held at Will Call.

6. If all information is correct, click on “BUY TICKETS” to complete your order. DANCER CHECK IN & RELEASE TIMES All performers will enter the theater through the backstage doors.

Entrance #1 – Preschool classes Entrance # 2 – All other performers assigned to individual dressing rooms. Please refer to the “Diagram of CCAE Backstage Area” for entrances. IMPORTANT: The road behind the theater is a service access and fire road. There is no parking or drop off allowed. Please park in the main parking lot and walk your child to the back entrances. Children performing in Recital will need to stay backstage until the scheduled release times. We will have 4-scheduled release times when performers can be picked up by their parents. Please refer to the “Order of Appearance” for release times. Performers can only check in at the beginning of the show and at intermission. There will be no check in during the quarter release times. No performers (with the exception of adults) will be allowed to exit the theater during the show between scheduled release times. Students 18-years or older will be released without a parent. If a student is 16 or 17-years old and drove themselves to the theater, we require a letter from parent/guardian authorizing them to be released. Children performing in 1st half of show ONLY (before intermission): These students need to arrive 45-minutes prior to the start of show (10:15am and 4:45pm) and must be picked up by their parent/guardian by 2nd release. If their dance is #1 - #15 they can be picked up at the 1st release time. If their dance is #16 - #27 (Saturday Cast) or # 16 - #29 (Sunday Cast), they can be picked up at 2nd release. These performers CANNOT stay backstage for the 2nd half of the show. Children performing in 2nd half of show ONLY (after intermission): These students will need to arrive at intermission (approximately 12:15pm and 6:45pm) and must be picked up by their parent/guardian by the end of the show. If their dance is #28 - #43 (Saturday Cast) or #30 - #44 (Sunday Cast), they can be picked up at the 3rd release. If their dance is #44 - #53 (Saturday Cast) or #45 - $55 (Sunday Cast), they can be picked up at the end of the show. These performers CANNOT be backstage for the 1st half of the show. The California Center for the Arts, Escondido has strict policies and guidelines concerning fire codes and security precautions. They need to know how many people are in their building at any given time and any dancer that is not in the audience must be accounted for backstage. This is why we cannot release children at random times during the show. All policies and guidelines set forth by the California Center for the Arts, Escondido and the Carlsbad Dance Centre are for the child’s ultimate safety. Each dressing room has a rack to hang costumes on, vanities with mirrors, electrical outlets and ample lighting. Remember that space will be limited, so try to condense your belongings. Be sure to send a lot of water with your dancer!

PARENT VOLUNTEERS One parent from each family is required to volunteer his/her time for one Recital performance (Saturday 11:00am or 5:30pm, or Sunday 11:00am or 5:30pm). The areas that need volunteers are: *Dressing Rooms (primarily moms…we can only have females in the dressing rooms with dancers), Security Team (including performer check-in and check-out and monitoring entry/exit doors) and & DVD Tables. Our parent volunteers are one of the most important aspects of this event. Keeping our children safe and secure is a top priority! There are two separate ways to volunteer for the recital. 1. Online through the CDC website (all afternoon classes Monday - Friday and Saturday Tap/Jazz & 1 hour discipline classes) 2. Through your child’s instructor (Morning Preschool & Saturday Preschool classes). * Dressing room volunteers are expected to assist all children in their area as they would their own.

1) If your child is enrolled in an afternoon class or 1 hour discipline class (e.g. Tap/Jazz, Tap, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Lyrical, Ballet) we ask that you sign up using the online Volunteer Sign Up. Exception: Miss Wendy’s Saturday 9am. class. Click Here to access the Volunteer Sign Ups. Or visit the CDC website. Click on the Recital 2013 tab (Password: recital2013) then click on the Volunteer Sign Ups tab. Follow the instructions to sign up.

You may volunteer for more than one performance or more than one area. Dancers will be assigned to several different dressing rooms. Many of these dancers will have costume and hair changes; backstage volunteers will assist the dancers with these important tasks. Volunteers will be placed with their son/daughter. However, we cannot guarantee that you/they will be with everyone from their dance class, as many children take multiple dance classes and the volunteer presence needed varies from room to room.

NOTE: When you sign up to volunteer online, you are committing yourself to one complete performance, not just half of the show. If your child dances in one half only, you will need to make arrangements for them, as we can only allow performers and volunteers backstage. Siblings (that aren’t scheduled performers) will not be allowed backstage. Siblings other than performers are not allowed backstage.

2) If your child is enrolled in a Preschool (Combo) Class, please sign up to volunteer with your child’s instructor. These classes include:

All Am Preschool Classes Michelle – Mon 10:00, Tues 9:00 Jana – Wed 10:00/11:00, Thurs 9:00/10:00 Bridget – Fri 10:00/11:00 Wendy – Sat 10:00/11:00

If your child is in one of these classes, your instructor will speak with you directly on volunteering backstage. You do not need to sign up online and you may sign up to volunteer for “half of the show.” These backstage volunteers are supervising children in a large rehearsal room/dance studio with other pre-school classes. Their duties include taking children to the restroom, fixing any costume accessories, dispensing water or light snacks and keeping them entertained with a craft or activity. Most of these children will not have costume changes so volunteer duties will be mostly keeping them safe, secure and happy!

DANCIN’ DADS Dads performing in a Father/Daughter number will check in 5-numbers before their dance at entrance #3. Dads will not be allowed backstage earlier than 5-numbers before their dance. They will be directed to the stagehand’s patio outside the dressing room area. Dads will be informed when they are “on deck”, approximately 2-numbers before their dance. They will then join their daughters in backstage hall. Once they finish, they will need to exit through the same door they checked in. If this is the only dance their daughter has in that half of the show, she may check out and leave with her dad. Girls who have more than one dance in that half of the show will report to their assinged dressing room and join their dad backstage just before the Father/Daughter dance. If the Father/Daughter dance is their daughter’s last dance, they may leave with their dad (check out w/security) after the Father/Daughter dance.

AWARD STUDENTS All students receiving their 6, 10 or 15-year award must report backstage at the beginning of intermission for their assigned awards ceremony. These awards will be presented to the students directly following intermission. If you are performing in a dance directly after intermission, please change into that costume for your award. You will not have time to change after the awards. RECITAL T-SHIRTS (New Procedure) All students enrolled in weekly dance class AND performing in the recital, receive one complimentary recital t-shirt! In order to receive your recital t-shirt, you will need to log in to the Parent Portal through the CDC website and enter your child’s shirt size. Those of you who have started using the Parent Portal, we thank you! This wonderful new feature is sure to make everyone’s life just a bit easier! Even if you never intend to use the portal to make payments, it is a convenient way to check the status of your account and much more (see email sent to membership on February 23rd for more information on the parent portal). The portal will be the only way to submit your child’s t-shirt size. We will not be accepting email or requests over the phone. If you would like to purchase additional recital shirts for yourself or another family member, they will be available for purchase on the CDC website before recital. If you’ve already created a portal follow instructions below. New users must first create a portal account then follow instructions below.

ENTERING YOUR CHILD’S T-SHIRT SIZE ON THE PARENT PORTAL

1. Log in to the parent portal. 2. Click on the “My Students” tab. 3. There you will find information regarding your student(s). 4. Look for field labeled “T-Shirt Size” and select the correct shirt size for your student. 5. Click the “Save” button at the top of the screen. 6. If you have multiple students, click the next student’s name on the left side of the screen and repeat the shirt selection process. 7. Be sure to click “Save” after each student. 8. If you’re so inclined, please take the time and fill out as many of the fields on that screen too. The final day to submit your child’s t-shirt size in the parent portal is: Saturday, May 4th. Recital t-shirts will be distributed at the studio before recital. T-shirts are unisex, size chart as follows: Child Small (6–8), Child Medium (10–12), Child Large (14-16), Adult Small, Adult Medium, Adult Large, Adult X-Large. RECITAL PHOTOS Kit Chow Photography will be taking photos of the performers during both 11:00am shows. He has taken some incredible shots of our Competition Team the past few years. Pre-order your photo package now and save money! Pre-orders can be submitted two ways: 1) use the “CDC Recital Photo” form in this packet. Return order form along with payment to the CDC office on or before 5/24/13. 2) You can pre-order your photos through the CDC website. Click on the Recital 2013 tab (Password: recital2013) then click on the Recital Photos tab. CDC “Reflections” Recital photos will be available for viewing 7 - 14 days after the recital.

RECITAL DVD’S Cameras and all other recording devices are not allowed in the theater on performance days. For the safety of the dancers and as a courtesy to those viewing in the audience, photography and videotaping are not allowed during the performances on Saturday, May 25th or Sunday May 26th. We have a professional production company filming both 5:30 pm performances. Photography and videotaping is permitted at REHEARSALS ONLY. (NOTE: The awards ceremonies will also be filmed and included on the DVDs) You may pre-order a Recital DVD by using the order form included in this packet (submit to our office via mail or fax) or by going online to www.CarlsbadDanceCentre.com/store/recital/. DVD's will also be available for pre-order at Recital by visiting the DVD table located in the main lobby. Pricing and all the important details are on the form.

COSTUMES Be sure to fill out the “Dancer’s Costume/Accessory Form” included in this packet. This will help the backstage moms identify what each child needs for their dances. Parents please label all items with your child’s name and organize their costumes, accessories and dance shoes. We recommend plastic garment bags for each costume and accessories. (This is not required but has proven to be the best way to keep all costume parts together). Racks will not be allowed in the dressing rooms…there is simply not enough room! No dancer will be allowed to leave the backstage/dressing room area to change in an alternate location.

HAIR & MAKE-UP All dancers will need to apply make-up for performances, even the young children. The bright stage lights will “wash out” any color on their little faces and give them a ghostly look. Make-up should include blush, lipstick (red tones), natural eye shadow and mascara. Dancers will need to use gel and bobby pins to keep hair out of face. All class hairstyle requirements are listed by dance on the CDC website under the Recital tab. (Password: recital2013)

MISC RECITAL INFO

Unfortunately, backstage parents will not be able to stand in the wings to watch dances. The Center for the Arts, Escondido is an all-union house with strict rules about who is allowed on stage at any given time.

Dancers who are performing in both Saturday and Sunday Casts may leave their costumes, makeup, etc. in the dressing rooms overnight. The Center for the Arts, Escondido has 24-hour security, the facility will be locked and belongings will be safe & secure.

There will be a couple hours between the 11:00am shows and the 5:30pm shows. At this

time, you may go get some lunch at one of the many area restaurants. The facility has a large grassy park, perfect for picnics and letting the little ones stretch their legs. Be sure to leave ample time to get back to the theater and check in for the next show.
