Grant also cautioned Blackconsumers to be mindful of thevoluminous requests that thebanks are receiving on-line, inperson and by telephone. Hestated: "This is a very positive de-velopment for Black banks. They have always provided a dis-proportionate share of the smallbusiness loans and consumerloans to African-Americans.Ironically, it seems that we havegone full circle back to where wewere before desegregation. TheBlack community is turning in-ward and seeking to provide se-curity for itself. And few wouldargue against the notion thatnearly every major social issueplaguing Black people in Amer-ica can find its roots in economicdeprivation.
The National Bankers Associa-tion, founded in 1927, is a consor-tium of African-American,Hispanic, Asian, Native Ameri-can and women-owned banks.The organization is headquar-tered in Washington, D.C.
