Sabarmati Gas Ltd is a Joint Venture Company of Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (GSPC) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (BPCL).
GSPC and BPCL have agreed to synergize their resources and strengths to form a Joint Venture Co. for setting up the infrastructure for distribution and marketing of Natural Gas, Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Piped Natural Gas (PNG) in Gandhinagar, Mehsana and Sabarkantha district of Gujarat State.

Incidents (2011-2012)
No major accidents occurred in the year (2011-12).
97% of incidents occurred due to third party damage (mostly by through JCB engaged for Municipality drainage/ sewage Projects.
Initiatives like coordination with Municipality officials, JCB owners, Contractors have been taken.

ERDMP (Emergency Response And Disaster Management) SGL has put into practice the emergency response and Disaster Management for its network operation in line with PNGRB requirement. The actions to be undertaken under the ERDMP are categorized into three levels (level-1, 2 and 3) depending on the intensity of the incident at site.
For level 1 and 2, SGL is equipped with there multiple operation set ups stationed in every 30km radius of network area (including every major town of SGL operation).
SGL has its customer care centers, emergency maintenance van (having all required equipments, fire extinguishers, and maintenance parts), and each team that is available for 24 hrs a day, comprised of experienced technicians, laborers and engineers.
This team attends to the emergency/ incidents within 10-15 minutes of its being reported.

Improvements
•At Every 20-25 km radius, one O&M team with emergency
van , customer care centers.
•Stationed SGL engineers to manage local O&M teams .
•Immediate Communication with HODs, ERDMP members and
Managing directors.
•Duty Manager ‘s role to coordinate with all concerned including
neighboring companies and arranging meeting at control room.
•Ensuring proper Communication with all concerned.
Improvements
•Periodic inspection for adequacy of preparedness.
•Involvement of all local staffs in emergency preparedness , training
and mock drill.
•Continuity of gas supply within minimum possible time.
•Regular contacts local authorities like, Police, Fire departments, etc.
•Mutual Aid from neighboring industries.
•Regular training for Safety of operating staffs.
•Use of technology i.e. GIS, SCADA, GPS ,SAP etc.
Next Step
•Accreditation of ERDMP by TPIA in line with PNGRB guideline.
• Approval from SGL Board.
•Submission of certified ERDMP document to PNGRB.
•Improvement of the ERDMP system in line with Certified ERDMP.
