Measure Represents factual data related
to a specific business process Examples: sales, cost, profit
Dimension Identifies and categorizes
measures Example: Location, Product,
and Time
Model Components
Hierarchy: A logical structure that groups dimension
members for the purpose of aggregating data
Example: Product Categories>Sub Categories>Products
Level A position in the hierarchy Example: Category, Subcategory
Members Distinct Values in a Level Example: PCs, Laptops, Monitors
Attributes Descriptive information about the
dimension members Examples: Color, Size, Weight

Necto Modeling Concept The Necto Model is a platform to connect data
from one or more data sources, and apply analysis upon it
Once a Model is Processed– authorized users can access it from within Necto WorkBoards
The Model is used for dynamic analysis, while achieving high security level
The Model Infrastructure is the SQL2012 Tabular platform, a sophisticated In-Memory engine
Necto Modeling Objectives Fast and scalable move to action: from a
business request to data modeling and live analytics
Giving administrators the ability to easily create sophisticated in-memory BI solutions
Giving Power Users and End Users the ability to easily create small – scale BI solutions
Building a simple Model is done with little help from the IT department, mainly around guidance and training
Fast browsing of aggregated and row-level data
Xvelocity – the Model Engine Necto uses the Tabular Xvelocity in memory
engine, that comes with SQL 2012. The engine has 3 main concepts:
In-memory column store… typical 10x compression
Brute force memory scans… high performance without tuning…
Basic paging … data volume mostly fits in physical memory
Necto Installation, Xvelocity Embedded Necto installation can include Xvelocity, with
the BI Ed. or Enterprise Ed. These editions supports the Xvelocity Engine It is a silent Installation.
Necto can also use an existing Tabular Instance for modeling
