In this issue we look back with great pride at our achievement towards the end of 2013 where DP World were presented the prestigious Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Business Award for Most Outstanding Performance for 2013.
We also explore Ramadan and what this means to DP World UAE Region and how Ramadan plays an important role in our Corporate Responsibility activities.
This quarter we were pleased to welcome 4 maiden voyages to Jebel Ali Port and details on the 4 vessels can be found in this issue.

DP World - Most Outstanding Performance 2013
At the end of last year it was with great pride that DP World received the country's highest business accolade, the prestigious Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Business Award for Most Outstanding Performance for 2013. The award was presented by His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, to His Excellency Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Chairman, DP World. MRMThe UAE has succeeded in becoming a role model of excellence for the world. Clear policies of innovation in all �elds have strengthened the UAE's position as a role model and leader. Based on this the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Business Awards were devised to provide additional support to the private sector and to stimulate outstanding performance across the UAE. The path to economic growth and prosperity requires creativity, innovation and excellence across all sectors. The Award not only recognises organisations with exceptional performance strategies but also aims to increase the understanding and implementation of business excellence.DP World has always been guided and inspired by the vision of His Highness, therefore the award serves
as a reminder that we are headed in the right direction as a company and as a contributor to the economic development of the region. DP World's Vision, Mission and Values played a key role in winning the award, which have been created in line with strategic vision for Dubai and the UAE.

For this reason, the award carries an extra signi�cance as it is a re�ection of our core Vision, Mission and Values.One of the primary reasons to apply for the award was to measure ourselves against peers in the region. Part of this is to ascertain how we are progressing as a company and in what areas we can improve, to better serve our customers. Participation in MRMBA allows us to evaluate aspects and functions of our business, which in turn continues to foster new innovations and better ways of serving our customers. For us, innovation and implementation of new technology is important in the way we serve our customers and offer ef�ciencies that allow us to be port of choice for the region. Innovations can only come to fruition through collaboration with all our stakeholders at various levels. Recently we have made DP World services accessible on Dubai Trade's mobile website in order to better increase ef�ciencies for our customers. The mobile friendly website will allow customers to have access to DP World UAE Region services round the clock at their convenience. It is challenges faced by our stakeholders that breed new innovations and in turn help DP World offer new ways of doing business. DP World, since its inception has embarked on a journey to innovate and offer services that are in the best interest of the customers and are anchored by Dubai's true place as a trading hub. Winning the award in 2013 is a great achievement for everyone associated at DP World, but it's just part of a continuous process in increasing excellence, innovation and pro�tability that drive our core business philosophy of exceptional customer service. Ramadan � A Month to Re�ect on Islam
Ramadan Mubarak!Now that the holy month of Ramadan has arrived DP World UAE region would like to take this opportunity to wish you a blessed holy month. Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and a fasting month worldwide for Muslims. It is a time of spiritual awakening, self-evaluation and remembrance of Allah, which Muslims observe through fasting and prayer. Fasting during the month of Ramadan is regarded as one of the Five Pillars of Islam. By fasting an individual will bene�t both spiritually and physically and helps the individual to understand what hunger is and make them humble. Fasting starts every day at the break of dawn and ends at sunset. The ending of the fast is called Iftar and traditionally starts with dates and water with friends and family close. Prayers also take an extra signi�cance during Ramadan, in addition to the �ve daily prayers, there is an increased offering of prayers and recitation of the Quran.
Ramadan ends with Eid Al Fitr, this takes place on the �rst day of the tenth month in the Islamic calendar � Shawwal. People will spend time with their friends and family to celebrate the occasion and greet each other by saying �Eid Mubarak�. Charitable giving is one of the Five Pillars of Islam and of great signi�cance during Ramadan. Corporate Responsibility is an important piece in the makeup of DP World. DP World UAE Region is an active advocate for local charitable institutions, as well as supporting special needs children, nationals education, sport programmes and for improving and enhancing the quality of life for UAE residents.
Aside from Charitable Donations, DP World's approach to corporate responsibility is anchored in the �four Quadrant� model of community, environment, people & safety and marketplace. Last year during Ramadan DP World UAE Region Corporate Responsibility included a successful blood donation campaign, that
saw over 200 people donate blood, and two highly enjoyable Iftars � one with orphans from Beit Al Khair Society and another with the elderly citizens at Al Mamzar Centre. Corporate Responsibility will again be an important part of Ramadan this year for DP World UAE Region. Again, as a supporter of the Thalassemia Centre and in conjunction with Dubai Health Authority (DHA), we organised a blood donation campaign at Lamcy Plaza that took place on the 7th and 8th of July 2014. During Ramadan, there is a shortage of blood for the patients at the center, therefore this campaign can make a real difference. Partners, colleagues, friends and family were all encouraged to join us at Lamcy Plaza and donors were presented with shopping vouchers. In addition to our blood donation campaign we will again be treating the orphans from Beit Al Khair to a fun day out at Sega Republic, Dubai Mall. Also we will be hosting a special Iftar for the Family Gathering Centre at their premises in Al Memar.

Dubai Centre for Special Needs Evening Recognition � 2nd April
The Dubai Centre for Special Needs in recognition of DP World UAE Regions on-going support and contribution to the centre ,carried out an evening of recognition under the patronage of HRH Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, wife of HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. On this occasion, the students celebrated with a special performance dedicated to DP World and other DCSN supporters. International Powerlifting World Championships � 5th - 11th April
DP World, UAE Region sponsored the �rst International Powerlifting World Championships for disabled under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai. With the support of Dubai Sports Council, Dubai Club for Disabled hosted �The Weight Lifting World Championships for handicapped 2014�.
Beit Al Khair Appreciation Ceremony � 4th May
Beit Al Khair Society, in recognition of DP World and other supporters, carried out an appreciation ceremony to thank their supporters for their continued contribution to the society. During the evening DP World UAE Region was recognised with an award which was accepted by Esam Mohammed Khoori, Director DP World UAE Region Procurement.

Annual Contest in the Holy Quran for the year 1435 � 1st May
DP World UAE Region were proud to be one of the sponsors for the annual contest in the Holy Quran for the year 1435. The award was organised by Sheikh Mohammed Center for Cultural and Social Understanding for those who memorised the Holy Quran. Saeed Al Zari, Account Manager � Mina Rashid and Mina Hamriya received an appreciation award on behalf of DP World UAE Region which was presented by Sheikh Mansour Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
Development of Container Terminal 3 continued to make progress with the start of initial operations in the next few weeks.
The Terminal has welcomed delivery to 2 new ARMG cranes and 5 new Quay cranes this quarter that has taken the total of ARMG cranes to 20 and Quay cranes to 9. Testing has continued on both and is making good progress. By completion Terminal 3 will 50 ARMG cranes and 19 Quay Cranes.
These highly automated cranes will be operated using remote control technology. The remote controlled Quay cranes were showcased at Careers UAE 2014 for the �rst time this year. Because this is taking jobs from the quayside to the safety and security of the operations building, the work at the new terminal has proven attractive to skilled Emiratis.

For the 5th consecutive year, DP World, UAE Region has recognised the achievements of its employees at the annual �Taqdeer� Awards ceremony. The event highlights employees' efforts to improve work processes, ef�ciency, reduce costs and protect the environment. This year, 140 employees have been honoured across seven categories: leadership, best innovation project, self-development, outstanding trainee, special talent, outstanding performance, and team work.
DP World inaugurates Jebel Ali Port's Largest Inspection Facility with Government Partners 20th April 2014DP World, on 20th April 2014, inaugurated the largest and latest container inspection facility at its �agship Jebel Ali Port in Dubai. The new facility is one of the largest inspection facilities in the region, spanning over 7000 square metres and providing 59 dedicated Dubai Customs, Dubai Municipality and Ministry of Environment & Water inspection bays.
DP World UAE Region Traf�c Management and Security Truck It is undoubtedly signi�cant to couple excellent turnaround through our Terminals with open free �owing roads at port to ensure that our customers reach their destination with their goods without delay.With this in mind, DP World Traf�c Management team recently launched the pictured patrol truck to help overlook traf�c �ow, rectify hindrances and analyse short and long term traf�c improvement plans on all link roads of the port. DP World wins Dubai Human Development Award 02nd June 2014 DP World won the Dubai Human Development Award 2013, marking the 20th anniversary of the Dubai Business Excellence Awards by the Department of Economic Development. The Award aims to promote awareness and understanding of the requirements for employee development, particularly of UAE nationals, in Dubai's private sector, encouraging companies to recruit and invest in their people's careers.
DP World Limited handled 14.3 million TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units) across its global portfolio of container terminals during the �rst quarter of 2014, with gross container volumes growing by 10.5% on a like-for-like basis.
On a reported basis gross volumes grew by 11.6% as new volumes from London Gateway (UK) and Embraport (Brazil) contributed to the portfolio, bene�tting the reported numbers.
First quarter growth was largely driven by an improved performance from our Asia Paci�c, India and UAE terminals, with Europe continuing to show signs of improvement. The UAE delivered a very strong quarter handling 3.6 million TEU, representing growth of 17.5%.

Culture CornerDating back to as early as 2600 BC, games have been a universal part of human experience and are present in all cultures. Games play an important role in the development of children and this is true throughout the world. Like everywhere there are traditional games that are speci�c to this region. Emirati traditional games can be categorised based on whether the child was born on the coast, in the desert, or in the mountains, and whether they were played by girls, boys or both. However, these games are not speci�c to just one region, as tribes used to travel from one place to another, in search of work. For example, camel herders used to travel to the coast in summer months to join diving expeditions, and all these movements in�uenced and spread the children's games. Some of them are to be found throughout Arabia, or even beyond. A lot of the games can be recognised universally, just with a few slight changes. For example Gabat Mestal is very similar to tag where there is a thief that needs to be caught. El Karrabi is a game that maybe isn't as recognisable. El Karrabi, or Fort and Water, is played by either boys or girls facing each other in two lines and while holding one foot behind them, they hop towards each other while trying to push their opponent over. A lot of the games can include cultural traditions and expressions, traditional craftsmanship, performing arts, and social practices and rituals. These are what make the games unique to this region.
