The only real way to be prepared for both the great and difficult moments of life is to be constantly practicing present-moment awareness. Present-moment aware-ness can be achieved in any number of simple ways. You may decide that you are simply go-ing to ask yourself over and over again, What can I do right now that will help me to become more perfectly myself? If that were the mantra of your inner dialogue, over time you would become a master of present-moment awareness and participation. THE MASTER STORYTELLER In today’s Gospel, Jesus is presented to us as the master storyteller. He loved to use parables as a tool for comparing one thing to something else. In most of his parables, Jesus revealed who God is by comparing God’s essence or actions with something familiar to his listeners. In the parable of the mustard seed, Jesus proclaims a marvelous and irrefutable truth. His small band of disciples, as insignificant as they may have felt, would one day produce a mighty kingdom whose growth was initiated by God. The seeds of this kingdom were planted by God and it is God who will harvest the fruit brought forth from those seeds. The extent of the growth of God’s kingdom cannot be predicted. While the Lord was performing these marvels, with Catherine standing there motionless, brother Stefano had wandered on by himself, imag-ining that his sister was still with him. After a little while he realized that he was alone, and when he turned round and saw his sis-ter standing there gazing up to heaven he began to shout to her, but when he saw that she made no reply and paid no attention to him he had to go back, shouting all the way; and as all this achieved nothing he got hold of her hand and pulled her, saying, “What are you doing? Why don’t you come along?” Catherine seemed to come out of a deep sleep; lowering her eyes she said, “If you could see what I can you would not be so cruel and disturb me out of this lovely vi-sion.” With these words she raised her eyes again, but the vision had vanished, He thus willing it who had appeared to her; whereupon Catherine, unable to endure this without feeling a sharp sting of sor-row, burst into tears, upbraiding herself bitterly for having allowed her eyes to stop looking up towards heaven. Mientras el Señor realizaba estas maravillas, con Cata-lina parada inmóvil, el hermano Stefano había vagado solo, imaginando que su her-mana todavía estaba con él. Después de un momento se dio cuenta de que estaba solo, y cuando se volvió y vio a su hermana parada mirando hacia el cielo, comenzó a gritarle, pero cuando vio que ella no res-pondía y no le prestaba atención, tuvo que volver atrás, gritar todo el camino; y como todo esto no lograba nada, él la tomó de la mano y tiró de ella, diciendo: "¿Qué estás haciendo? ¿Por qué no vienes? "Catalina parecía haber salido de un sueño profundo; bajando la mirada, dijo: "Si pudieras ver lo que yo puedo, no serías tan cruel y me mo-lestarías de esta visión encantadora". Con estas palabras levantó los ojos otra vez, pero la visión se había desvanecido. Con lo

En la parábola de la semilla de mostaza, Jesús proclama una verdad maravillosa e irrefuta-ble. Su pequeño grupo de discípulos, tan insignificantes como ellos se hubieran sentido, un día producirán un reina-do poderoso cuyo crecimiento lo comenzó Dios. Las semi-llas de este reino fueron plantadas por Dios y es Dios quien cosechará el fruto producido por esas semillas. No se pue-de predecir qué tanto crecerá el Reino de Dios. DidYouKnow? Safety trumps good manners As parents/caregivers, we teach children to say “please” and “thank you,” to play nicely, and to respect other adults. It is also key to stress the importance of safety, and let children know that it is okay to be impolite if they feel threatened or scared. Children should know that it’s okay to say “NO” if someone is asking them to do something they don’t feel comfortable doing, and that setting boundaries by saying things like -- “Don’t touch me there,” or “I don’t like that” -- are not rude, but in fact necessary for their safety.

La seguridad triunfa sobre los buenos modales Como padres de familia y cuidadores de niños, nosotros les enseñamos a los niños a decir “por favor” y “gracias”, a jugar con amabilidad, y a respetar a los adultos.
