Le recomendamos que traiga alimentos nutriti-vos que disfrute personalmente. Necesitamos sopas enla-tadas, carnes enlatadas, carnes frescas, queso, huevos, embutidos, carnes precocinadas; por favor, nada empacado en vidrio. No necesitamos los siguientes productos enlata-dos: frijoles, judías verdes, papas, maíz dulce, verduras mix-tas, zanahorias y salsa de arándanos ya que tenemos mu-chos de estos. Para los necesitados, St. Catherine's tiene una despensa con una variedad de alimentos disponibles durante la semana los martes (1 a 3PM), Los miércoles y los viernes (10AM a 3PM). Las familias y las personas sin hogar son bienvenidos para complementar sus necesidades de alimentos de nuestra despensa.
NEXT Sunday, September 1, Our Knights of Colum-bus Council is continuing the food drive by collect-ing ready-to-eat items in easy-to-open cans or packages. You are encouraged to bring nutritious food that you personally enjoy. We need canned soups, canned meats, fresh meats, cheese, eggs, cold cuts, pre-cooked meats; please, noth-
ing packed in glass. We don’t need the following canned items: beans, potatoes, green beans, sweet corn, mixed vegetables, carrots and cranberry sauce as we have a lot of these already. For those in need, St. Catherine’s has a pantry with a variety of food items available during the week on Tuesdays (1 to 3PM), Wednesdays and Fridays (10AM to 3PM). Families and the homeless are welcome to supplement their food needs from our pantry.

We have become accustomed to seeing pictures in the media and stories on the news about immigrants from Latin America and refugees from Syria fleeing violence and destruc-tion in their own countries, trying to make their way to a safe place. We have also seen the reactions of people who want to keep them away from their countries, who fail to welcome the stranger and the helpless children. Have we forgotten Jesus’ call to comfort the homeless and the stranger? “They shall bring all your brothers and sisters from all the nations . . . to Jerusalem, my holy mountain, says the LORD.” In the three readings for this day, we are told that we are to welcome these strangers, to welcome the discipline of the Lord, which leads to peace, and to “strive to enter through the narrow gate” into the glory of God’s own homeland, the reign of God. DA LA BIENVENIDA AL EXTRANJERO Ya casi nos hemos acostumbrado a ver fotografías en las redes sociales e historias en los periódicos de inmigran-tes latinoamericanos y refugiados sirios escapando de la violencia y la destrucción de sus propios países, intentando hacer una vida mejor en un lugar más seguro. También nos ha tocado ver las reacciones de las personas que intentan mantenerlas lejos de sus países, que se oponen a ayudar a los extranjeros y a los niños indefensos. ¿Se nos ha olvidado la enseñanza de Jesús de ayudar a los desamparados y a los extranjeros? “Traerán todos a sus hermanos y hermanas de todas las naciones . . . a Jerusalén, a mi monte santo, dice el Señor”. En las tres lecturas de hoy, se nos dice que debemos ser hospitalarios con los extranjeros, dar la bienvenida a los discípulos del Señor, lo cual nos lleva a la paz, y a “entrar por la puerta que es angosta” a la gloria del reino de Dios. For National Child Abuse Prevention Month, the Office of Safeguard the Children has cre-ated the 2019 Child Abuse Prevention Resource Packet. The packet includes pinwheel stickers, decora-tions and children’s activities as well as informative arti-cles to help parents and other caring adults learn about how to protect our children and youth. This campaign provides another opportunity to transform awareness into action as we affirm every child’s right for a life filled with hope, health and happiness.
