Daum’s Search, Map and My People platforms open to the public. Outsidedevelopers can utilize our open API data to develop new services, whilecollaborative ones can generate profits by providing our services jointly.Since Daum started providing open API in the end of 2006, use of the open API has increased more than 300% annually. It handles 190 million calls monthly as of February, 2013, and 5% of Daum’s total search queries are from external websites through the open API. Daum Map Open API is used in more than 1,500 places each month on average, which is more than Daum’s PC map service. In 2012, we have focused such efforts on third-party partners, actively committed to open more API services. Also, by using address book, the ‘My People’ application, ‘Daum Alimy’ API, and many other services, we have start-ed shared services through building partnerships with small and medium-sized enterprises.As a result of these efforts, Daum open API was getting over 200 million hits amonth as of December 2012. 5% of Daum search query is from external web-sites through open API, and Daum Map Open API was applied to the National Election Commission’s polling station search service for the 19th General Elec-tion. Also, Daum has built various partnership services with large corporations such as SK Communications, CJ E&M, LG U+. And, Daum open API supports our affiliated companies, like Alba Chun-kook, Inc., CJ Internet, and Budong-san Serve, as well as the regional governments of Busan and Cheongju. After the release of the SDK map for mobile applications, more applications such as ‘Poing’ and ‘Zigbang’ are using the map. Daum plans to further dis-tribute ‘My People’ API, ‘Profile’ API and the SDK map for mobile applications in 2013. We are also planning to discover new APIs and make them available to the public.

Daum Open API is used by government organizations, businesses, anduniversities. Our search API was being used at more than twentyKorean university libraries, including those at Korea University, ChonbukNational University, Ewha Womans University, and Hannam University.In addition, our map API helps people in Busan, Cheongju, and other cities toaccess bus locations and other information, while LiveRe uses Yozm andT Story API for its social reply services.As of December 2012, Daum Open API was being used on more than eightthousand sites. More web and mobile applications utilizing it will becomeavailable in the future.

From 2011, with the theme ‘developer, community and communication’, we have been hosting large external developers’ conference with the domestic technology community. To fulfill the goal of ‘sharing and communication’, we have conducted outside personnel talk sessions, music performances, com-munity’s technology session presentations, and various booths with 16 major developers and communities participating. In particular, in 2012, the technol-ogy sessions and discussion programs have doubled in size in comparison to that of the year before, with more than triple the number of participants.

We have been creating an open ecosystem by communicating with open API developers directly through ‘DevDay’ and ‘API BootCamp.’ Since 2007, Dev-Day has been the longest live coding event nationally, and it has been rec-ognized as contributing to the realization of creative ideas through open API as well as the expansion of interaction between developers. Unlike the exist-ing theory-centric API education, the API BootCamp allowed participants to choose the API session for a whole day, offered intensive practical training and API partnership consultation service, which has created a multi-channel coexisting business model.

‘Daum API Friendship’ program conducted in August, 2012 used Daum’s open/partnership API to encourage creation of particular purposed (partnered) web service and application. This is a program to secure API reference and test

operating principles.Approximately 1,900 widgets had been registered as of December 2012.Widget Bank gets sixty-two million page views a day, contributing dramaticallyto our traffic. Its ratio of private subscribers to corporate ones is oneto three, allowing businesses to get their messages out to a much larger publicthan they would otherwise. In 2012, we will be developing both on- and off-linewidget and web applications.

Among the various potential ven-ture companies and university development clubs the ‘Mobitle team’ was cho-sen after great deliberation, and Daum offered them with accommodations and other support so that they could focus fully on development at Jeju office. As a result, the team was able to complete the partnered mobile application de-velopment.

In 2007, “Daum Track” was established in the Computer Science Department at Jeju National University in order to cultivate internet technical personnel. This program offers practice-oriented lectures, field practice, internship, and other programs systemically. Daum Service Inc. and Jeju Halla University are also committed to industry-academic cooperation to train expert personnel specializing in internet service management. In 2010, Daum also is undergo-ing various industry-academic cooperation programs to train expert personnel specializing in interneet service technology and management, including offer-ing lectures on internet technologies at the Computer Education Department at Jeju University.

‘K-Start up open platform training’ events were held at Jeju National University and Wonkwang University twice, co-organized by the Korea Internet Security Agency and Korea Communications Commission. Many college students, as well as the general public participated in the events, which strengthened serv-ice development using public and civilian API information, the basic internet business ecosystem, and the internet industries capabilities.

We are supporting the ‘Primer’ entrepreneurs’ entership program for young founders, and is offering server equipment for development for Seoul National University’s ‘Start-up Venture Club’. We are also providing the mobile adver-tising platform ‘Adam (Ad@m)’ for small and medium companies and privte developers’ profit. As of December 2012, with more than 8,000 partners, we are sharing page views (PV) value which has exceeded 15 billion in revenue. By strengthening partnerships, we are hoping to provide technology conferences and premium API services, and build more business partnerships which can create mutual profits.

Daum shares over twenty development programs, such as Apache, Eclipse,and Ubuntu, through its SW FTP mirroring service. We also provide serverhosting at oss.daum.net for Korean open source communities, including theMozilla, Python, and TextCube communities. In 2013, we will be offering a newvirtual service based on cloud.We also support Mozilla’s global community in terms of human resourcesupports and marketing activities. In addition, we launched Firefox Daumedition first in the domestic market and donates profits generated from searchalliance.In addition, Daum Open Editor (github.com/daumeditor) is a site for personalblogs and use by small- and medium-sized businesses.
