$20,000 in Research Grants Awarded The AAE's Research and Education Foundation at its recent meeting ap- proved 16 Endodontic Graduate Stu- dent Awards for research projects. These awards, totalling $20,544, are supported in part by an annual contribution from the L.D. Caulk Division of Dentsply. The Award program was established to encourage graduate endodontic stu- dents to conduct meaningful research in pulp biology/endodontics during their post-doctoral education. Graduate students and their research topics receiving awards are: Susana M. Bruce, Baylor Univ. Effect of osteoinductive implants on wound healing periradicular surgery; Dean Burnett, Northwestern Univ. The fate of the odontoblasts following the exptirpation of the pulp from hu- man teeth. David Clement, Univ. of Texas Mineralizing cells isolated from the periodontal ligament Cathy Evans, Univ. of Illinois-Chicago Mercury levels in blood and urine of primates following retrograde amalgam fillings. Craig Haga, Northwestern Univ. Responses of cloned bone cells to elevated calcium. Barzin Massarat, Northwestern Univ. Immunolocalization of cartilage macro- molecules on in vitro dentin matrix in- duced chondrogenic nodules.
