television. It is the challenges imposed by lesser sources that all television manufacturers must rise

to meet, and for JVC, that is where D.I.S.T. w/GENESSA sets us apart from the competition.

Our latest 5th generation D.I.S.T. w/GENESSA is the driving force behind our unrivalled full HD 1080p

imagery. The D.I.S.T. engine combines all of our core image processing, noise reducing and color

management technologies into one communication unit within the GENESSA chip for resolution

that not only rivals reality, in many cases, it beats it.

The GENESSA chip is a 32bit CPU that is the industry’s first image processing microchip

dedicated to the detection of image data and the processing of it to create the final picture. Its

accelerated 32bit “turbo” powered picture processing provides for both super fast sampling and

more efficient communication between the technologies that comprise the D.I.S.T. engine.

From every source, D.I.S.T. w/GENESSA detects and seamlessly up-scales the data to display at

full HD 1080p resolution. It does so for all SD sources (480i or 480p) and all HD sources (720p, 1080i

and 1080p) so no matter what you’re watching, it will look as impressive as possible.

D.I.S.T. w/GENESSA yield incredibly fast calculations that translate to a smoother picture and

better resolution images. The next pages of this catalog will describe how each of the circuits

combine within the GENESSA chip and how the D.I.S.T. process creates the stunning full HD 1080p

imagery only available from JVC.

HD Range 150MHz Digital Super Detail

Exclusive 5 Point Color Management System

Exclusive Motion Adaptive Dynamic Gamma

Natural and vibrant color reproduction with

realistic flesh tones is what 5 point color

management was created to achieve. This

system compensates for potential color range

limitations by using a pin-point sampling process

to indicate which colors need to be softened

and which colors toned down. A 5th axis is

dedicated to flesh tone color sampling so that

even skin tones are smooth and natural. All

colors from any source are reproduced with

superior dimension and vivid detail.

Smooth, detailed grayscales even in high

motion scenes are guaranteed with JVC’s

Dynamic Gamma Control — a highly

sophisticated algorithm that preserves

tonal gradations and insures darker images

are smooth, never muddied, and rich with

details. (You can even see the rain drops

in the game!) To do this, Motion Adaptive

DGC utilizes data from all signal levels and

specifically targets only darker image data

so that the entire processing power can

concentrate in trouble areas alone.

State-of-the-art focusing technology,

HD Range 150MHz Digital Super Detail,

insures that JVC 1080p images are always

reproduced with a minimum of edge blur,

an unfortunate consequence of many

action sequences. This circuit works to

reproduce focused images for both still

and high action scenes alike. For fast

action scenes, edges of moving objects

are enhanced, minimizing blur. For minimal

action scenes, a natural compensation is

added to eliminate edge glare.Natural Cinema (3-2 Pull Down)

When film is converted to video, a process

called "Telecine" can cause jagged edges on

images. This happens because film is shot at

24 to 30 frames per second and then must be

converted to the NTSC standard at 60 frames

per second. Natural Cinema is a sampling

technology that smooths out the edges by

sampling the first field, recognizing it as the

first, and then duplicating it in a continuous

process so it appears smooth.

By examining the brightness level of

incoming image sources, Smart Picture

technology compensates for scenes,

frame by frame, to insure they are

displayed at the perfect brightness level

without sacrificing contrast and detail.

New MPEG Noise Suppression detects

and reduces block noise and mosquito

noise inside of MPEG video which comes

from radical steps within the gradation of

sampled pixels. This new processing method

is 75% more effective than for previous

models and is highly effective at reducing

noise inside gradation without degrading

the image resolution, even for off-air digital

broadcasts.

3D Y/C Digital Comb Filter w/Cross Color Elimination

Jagged edges on images are a thing of the

past with our new more efficient I/P scaler.

JVC’s new improved Natural Progressive

takes I/P scalers to new heights. This higher

performance I/P convergence technology

brings total focus even in areas of fast

movement and skewed lines like never

before. It does so by detecting the angle of

skewed lines and optimally correcting them

so they appear as smooth as possible, even in

complicated moving pictures.

Detecting and stabilizing digital video noise

reduces graininess. Real time detection of

noise for intelligent control and improved

noise reduction provides a smoother image.

This newly added filter detects noise levels in

real time in moving images and controls the

amount of reducing it applies. An added

adaptive processor for the DVD input insures

that all your video sources are noise free.

Component Cross Color Elimination means

crystal clear images from varying sources. As the quality of so-called “high definition”

content varies, this new and advanced

digital comb filter eliminates the inevitable

embedded interference that can be left

within digital broadcast and component

signals. By removing such interference

images are clear and without defect.

6500K is the average color temperature of

natural daylight and the color temperature

standard used by the film editors in

Hollywood when they convert films to DVD.

With the press of a button, the TheaterPro

calibrating circuit brings the warm look

and feel back to any video source while

preserving all the original detail. Also

available on all models are four other preset

video status modes including Theater,

Dynamic, Game and Standard.

6500K TheaterPro Technology

To reduce power consumption and eye

strain, our LCDs feature a smart sensor that

automatically adjusts screen brightness

according to ambient light levels of the

room. As an added bonus, the Smart

Sensor improves picture quality via constant

communication with the GENESSA chip

which detects the average levels of screen

brightness. Once brightness levels are

detected as too high, GENESSA informs the

Smart Sensor to tone down those levels.

Smart Sensor Technology for LCDs

You can eliminate top and side bars on

incoming signals that display them with the

Aspect button on the remote control. Available

modes include: Regular/Panorama/Cinema/

Full/Cinema Zoom/Panorama Zoom/and Slim

for all models. LCDs add Full Native. For your

convenience, the TV automatically detects

the signal source and displays only the

appropriate modes.

Multi-screen Split POP w/Index and Freeze

Advanced Connectivity Jack Packages

All models in this book offer the versatile multi

screen features Twin, Index and Freeze.

Twin mode lets you view two programs (one

NTSC, one video) in same size windows side

by side on the screen. You will hear the sound

track for the Main screen and if and when you

want to hear the Twin sound track, simply press

the swAp button on the remote and the Twin

and the Main screens will “swap” positions.

Index lets you visually search what programs

are on by scanning them consecutively in 12

separate windows. Each program will appear

with a live action shot for a few seconds and

then freeze as the tuner switches to the next

subsequent channel. When you see the show

you want, pressing the select button on your

remote control brings you to that channel.

Freeze creates a snapshot of the screen in a

separate window when you press the Freeze

button. Freeze works great when you want

to write down an address or phone number

shown on a commercial.

Every JVC full HD television is equipped with

advanced connection capabilities.

Built-in ATSC Tuner w/Clear QAM A built-in ATSC tuner allows you to receive

over-the-air digital terrestrial broadcasts.

Clear QAM tuner allows you to receive

unscrambled digital cable signals. Available

on all models in this book.

Dual HDMI w/HDCP Inputs All models include dual HDMI w/HDCP Inputs

for uncompressed high bandwidth digital

connectivity from any HDMI compatible

device and future connectability. Select

HD-ILA® models offer 1080p compatible

HDMI inputs.

RS-232C Control For customers with RS-232C remote home

systems, this 9 pin serial interface allows for

integration with those devices. Available on

all FH97 Series LCD and HD-ILA® models.

Gold Plated Terminals For improved conductivity and stronger

connections, all FH97 Series LCD and

HD-ILA® models are equipped with gold

plated component, AV (composite), and

audio jacks.

CableCARD Slot The CableCARD slot eliminates the need

for a set top box to descramble local cable

programming (depending upon cable

operator availability). Available on FC/FH/FN

models.

Dual IEEE1394 FireWire Ports (i.LINK) IEEE1394 FireWire digital interface to link and

daisy-chain i.LINK compatible devices for

the transfer of compressed digital audio and

video. Available on FC/FH/FN models.

PC Input (D-Sub 15 Pin) XGA/VGA For added convenience, each LCD model

and select HD-ILA® models are compatible

with XGA (1024 x 768) and VGA (640 x 480)

signals at 60 Hz. Available on FA/FB/FN/FH

models.

Smart Video Input This input contains component, S-Video,

and composite jacks and will automatically

detect the signal source connected to it.

The Smart Input is available through Video

Input-1. Available on all models in this book.

Auto Sensing Component Video Inputs All models in this book contain two auto

sensing component video inputs for strong

digital video connections not requiring HDMI

connectivity.

S-Video Inputs Every model in this book is equipped with

two S-Video inputs for your S-Video capable

camcorders, players, and game consoles.

Composite Video Inputs For older, traditional video sources, every

FC/FN/and/FH HD-ILA® model possesses 4

AV inputs. All FA/FB HD-ILA® and every LCD

Exclusive to JVC in the micro-display

category is HD-ILA® — a reflective

3-chip proprietary LCOS system used

by the highly regarded professional

projector device known as D-ILA

(Direct-drive Image Light Amplifier).

sophisticated D-ILA system offers

No Screen Door or Rainbow Effects

The Unique 3-Chip D-ILA Device

Superior HD-ILA® images will never fall prey to the Screen Door or Rainbow Effects With over two million pixels per chip it’s no

wonder that HD-ILA® images are seamless,

but it’s not the pixel count alone that makes

the picture so pure, it’s the pixel structure and

3-chip design.

With regards to the pixel structure of the

chips, each D-ILA chip requires virtually no

space between pixels to allow for moving

parts (such as for DLP micro mirrors) or

transistors and wires (such as for some rear

projection LCD). This seamless pixel structure

means there will never be shadowing known

as the “screen door effect”.

With regards to the 3-chip structure, we like

to say simply, 3-chips are better than one!

Our 3-chip method never succumbs to the

“rainbow effect” that results from using a

single chip or color wheel technology.

JVC’s Exclusive, Advanced “Optical Iris” is as brilliant as the great minds that developed it. The Advanced

Optical Iris in every JVC FC/FN/and FH series HD-ILA® acts just like the iris of the human eye which regulates

the opening and closing of the pupil to allow more or less light into the eye. Being linked to the GENESSA

processor, our Advanced Optical Iris works quite similarly.

For every incoming signal, the GENESSA chip senses the amount of light in the image and opens and

closes the Optical Iris to allow just the right amount of light through to recreate the perfect image — the Iris

opens more when it senses the image needs more light and closes more when it senses the need for less.

Discriminating viewers can even regulate the iris function in the TV’s on-screen menus.

What sort of competitive edge does the GENESSA chip and the Iris regulating and optimizing the amount of light the lamp emits to the light engine

provide to HD-ILA® pictures? In sum, our displays offer these distinct advantages:

n The contrast ratio of HD-ILA® displays is better than 10,000:1 (twice that of our previous 3-step Iris).

n Black levels are improved significantly (the HD-ILA® display can create a “blacker” black).
