THE SIMMONS FOUNDATION
MISSION:To help people help themselves by supporting agencies and organizations that improve lives through education, developing healthy lifestyles, and promoting economic and leadership opportunities.
BACKGROUND AND FOCUS:Th e granddaughter of Ola and L.B. Simmons founded Th e Simmons Foundation in 1993 as a tribute to her grandparents’ lifelong tradition of contributing toward the betterment of any community in which they lived. Th e Simmons Foundation expresses its values by fundingorganizations that help those whose resources are limited, so they can lead productive, fulfi lling and responsible lives with dignity and respect. In this manner, the Foundation honors the memory of Mr. andMrs. Simmons. Th e Foundation’s primary interests are education, health and human services.
Since its inception, Th e Simmons Foundation has funded $9,473,618 in grants, predominately in Harris and surrounding counties in Texas.

The Simmons Foundation Board of Directors meets quarterly, and accepts proposals on an on-going basis. The review process may take anywhere from several weeks to several months, depending upon receipt of the request.

The actual allocation amount for any given year will differ from the total grants approved and total grants paid during that year. Please see following explanation.
IN 2006:• Th e Board of Directors approved 157 grants totaling $2,289,000, some of which will be paid in future years
• Th e total amount paid in FY2006 was $2,075,500 , which included several multi-year grants originally approved in prior years
• 25% of the grants approved in 2006 were to organizations not previously funded by the foundation

Th e Simmons Foundation and Th e Redstone Companies are cooperating on a scholarship program targeted at dependents of employees of Redstone Companies and affi liated entities. Th e scholarship program will beavailable only to eligible employees and will be administered in partnership with the Linda LorelleScholarship Fund.
Th e mission of Th e Simmons Foundation/RedstoneScholarship Program is to provide scholarships forqualifi ed employees’ dependents who need fi nancialassistance and whose academic and personal potentialmay be unfulfi lled due to circumstances beyond theircontrol. A limited number of scholarships will beawarded yearly, based on a competitive process.
Th e Foundation is in the process of obtaining approvalof the Program from the Internal Revenue Service.
