ThetrioofGregMoore,ButlerBenton,andBradleyGlatthaarsharedtherushingduties.MoorepacedtheBearcatswith709yardsandfourscores.Bentonalsototaledfourtouchdowns.Glatthaarfinishedwith285yardsandtwoTDs.DougJonesservedastheprimaryfullback,carryingtheball11timesandcatching11passesoutofthebackfield. Playingthethird-mostdifficultscheduleinthecountry,theBearcatsfacedfiveTop10teamsandsixbowlparticipantsontheir13-gameslate.Fromits11daysatCampHigherGroundinAugusttoaJanuarycelebrationinToronto,UCfootballdealtwiththegamutofemotions. WithseniorreservequarterbackNickDavilagettingthestartinhisfinalhomegame,UCdrubbedthen-No.7Rutgers,thehighest-rankedfoeevertofallatNippertStadium,30-11.Thefollowingweek,CincinnaticamefrombehindtowinatConnecticutandclaimeditsfifthbowlinvitationinsevenyears. Afirst-teamall-BIGEASTchoice,defensivetackleTerrillByrdkeyedtheBearcats’frontfour.Astarterinall24gamesofhiscareeratUC,ByrdtookondoubleteamsthatalloweddefensiveendsTrevorAndersonandAnthonyHoketomakeplays.TonyCarvittibeganapromisingseniorseasonwithtwosacksagainstEasternKentucky,buttheformerwalk-onplayedinjustfivegamesbeforesufferingakneeinjury.AdamHoppelandThomasClaggettfilledthevoidleftbyCarvitti. Brian Kelly won his debut 34 days after being introduced as head coach at Cincinnati. Dominic Ross earned First-Team All-BIG EAST honors. Dustin Grutza completed nine TD passes in 2006.
