Digging Deeperinto DiscipleshipBy Joe Lightfoot, Pastor of Adult Ministries

As Pastor Mike continues explaining the seven characteristics of life trans-formation in the Parking Lots to Pathways series, many have already beenchallenged by the rst two messages in the series.

For those who are looking to dig deeper into discipleship, two newgroups, beginning at 6:30 PM this Wednesday, can help you do that.

As weve been instructed through this ser ies, developing and deepeningyour relationship and commitment to Jesus must be a critical priority.Your commitment to Jesus forms the foundation of your spiritual life.Without this foundation you cannot progress along the pathway tospiritual matur ity.

Whether you are a new believer or a seasoned spiritual veteran, this new Wednesday night group Developing Your Passion for

Jesus , can help you deepen that commitment. This group, facilitatedby Pastor Mike will challenge you to exercise your spiritual heartmuscles and challenge you to take the next step in your journeywith Jesus.

The next step always seems to be the hardest. Though we dontlike to admit it, our feelings always follow our faith. What does ittake to develop and deepen your commitment to Jesus? How can youdo it? These and other important questions will be answered in this

four-week study. This group begins this Wednesday, at 6:30 PM inroom 1244.

If you are a parent (or even agrandparent), here is another wonderfulopportunity for you. Essentials of

Discipline , from Focus on the Family,is a 12week study will equip you, as aparent, with the practical understanding, biblical principles and encouragement

you need to shape your childs heart andwill, and feel condent in your abilityto handle discipline in a positive way.Sherri Stufebeem, Childrens Ministry Director, will bring herencouraging style to this group as she facilitates each session.

You can sign up for this helpful study on the Care & Commu-nication Card, at the table in the foyer, or by contacting the AdultMinistries Ofce at 255.2122, ext. 129.

Modern Day SlaveryStatistics on Child SlaveryBy Operation Mobilization

Information gathered by British char-ity Christian Aid, reported by Reuters, indicates that up to 10,000 childrenaged 614 are enslaved in brothels inSri Lanka.

There are no universally-acceptedgures for the number of bondedchild laborers in India. However, in the carpet industryalone, human rights organizations estimate that there maybe as many as 300,000 children, many under conditions thatamount to bonded labor.

Human Rights Watch estimates that 40 million persons, in-cluding 15 million children, are bonded laborers. The major-ity of bonded laborers are Dalits, whose bondage is passedfrom one generation to the next.

90% of 100,000 women in prostitution in Mumbai are inden-tured slaves.

Many Indian boys, some as young as four, are riders incamel races in West Asia and the Gulf States, especially theUnited Arab Emirates, or work as beggars during the Haj.Girls and women end up either as domestic or sex workers.

MISSION ONE Reaching others for Jesus ChristDick & Char Gri thsMission Board: TEAMLocation: Wisconsin/Papua, IndonesiaWhat do they do? The Grifths left for Dutch New Guinea in

1956. Their work included opening the Hatam tribal min-

istry interior, building an airstrip at Minyambou, reducingthe language to writing, and teaching simple Bible stories toprimitive people bound in superstition. Gods Spirit movedDecember 1962 in what is called a fetish movement. The joyof the Gospel spread along family lines and whole villagestrusted Christ with great desire to learn Gods Word and tobe able to read it themselves. Dicks main work has beentranslation, while Chars has been Hatam literacywritingbooks, training teachers and Bible training for women.

Prayer Requests: For God to complete this work project in 2008. For nal decisions on size of print, illustrations, maps,

Prayer Requests: For missionaries to shed all obstacles that might impede the

advance of the Gospel. That God would invade the hearts of Europeans and bring

another wave of conversions, another reformation touchingall levels of society.

That Christians would be renewed and follow the Lord inwhatever He asks.

AWANAEach year our AWANA 3rd and 4th graders have the opportu-

nity to participate in a regional T&T Quiz competition. Oral andwritten questions are drawn from 24 Bible verses and references, word denitions, and assigned Bible readings. Many hours of study occur in preparation for the meet.

On Saturday, January 26th, eight girls represented First Feder-ated Church. Of the ten Book One girls teams participating, ourteams placed rst and second. The team of Hylah Borwey, JanaeEpp and Laura Harper received rst place honors. Coming in aclose second place was our other team, Anna Kucera, KyndalStewart and Tiffany Waggoner. Special recognition goes to AnnaKucera who received a perfect score on her oral exam.

Our Book Two girls team was fourth graders Daisee AnnOlson and Carley Vander Meulen. This team nished fourth outof seven teams.

Congratulations to all the girls for their accomplishments atquiz! They are great examples of II Timothy 2:15, from which

AWANA gets its name. Do your best to present yourself to Godas one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamedand who correctly handles the word of truth.
