    H Y F h H?By Gary L. Jaehnel, Facilities Manager

Have you noticed the auditorium eeling warmer the past ew

weeks compared to earlier this winter? How about the classroom

in the 1987 building? Theres a reason or that. Ater 21 years

o service, several key pieces o heating equipment that provide

heat to the 1987 building ailed.

    Replacement parts have recently

    been installed.

The good news doesnt endthere. Weve also advanced the

    technology o our heating plan

    control systems by a quarter-

    century. A new, state-o-the-ar

    computer control system

    now operates our boilers and

    other steam plant equipment

    completely automatically or

the rst time ever. This not

    only makes us more comort-

    able, but it signicantly lowers

energy costs, reduces maintenance requirements, plus extends

the lie o the equipment. Beore beginning this project, we

researched it thoroughly to ensure that we were being good

    stewards o our nances.

Here are the key nancial acts that persuaded us to proceed:

    Purchase & Installation Costs ............. .............. ...... $18,000

    Rebate rom MidAmerican Energy .............. ............. $7,600

    Out o Pocket Expense ............. .............. .............. .... $10,400

Projected Energy Savings ............ $5,000$10,000 per year

    Your regular giving to the

    General Fund allows us to

take on projects like this. We

encourage your continued aith-ulness in your regular giving

so that we can continue with

    other needed acility repair and

    improvement projects.

k Gd icBy Joe Lightoot, Pastor o Adult Ministries

For those who have placed their trust in Jesus or eternal lie,

the Bible provides instructions on how to live out this new lie.

Making choices that have their oundation based on a spiritual

lie is easier said than done. Many realized this last Sunday in

examining the words in Romans, chapter 8, verse 15.

This verse tells us that as believers in Jesus, we are adoptedinto a new amily. We are sons and daughters o the King o

Creation. It is important to grasp this act as it provides the core

o so much o our spiritual lives. This is what l iving a lie that

isBiblically Measuredis all about. It takes work to understand

these truths and make use o them on our spiritual journey.

This came to mind as I read a review o John Izzos book,

The Five Secrets You Must Discover Beore You Die. The

Des Moines Register carried an article about the book, noting

that the author interviewed two Iowans in his research. I encour-

age you to examine Izzos Five Secrets and use your Bible to

    Biblically Measure his positions.

Secret #1: Be true to yourself. The author says you should

have the discipline to listen to your heart to nd out what makesyou happy and the courage to ollow that path and make it a

priority. Examine how God contrasts Izzos secret in Genesis 6:5

    and Matthew 16:24.

Secret #2: Leave No Regrets. Izzo teaches that when aced

with a decision, you should think o yoursel as an old woman

sitting in a rocking chair near the end o lie and ask yoursel:

What decision do I wish I had made? At the end o lie you wont

    regret risks you took. Measure this secret against Philippians 4:6;

    Ephesians 5:1; and 1 Peter 2:21.

Secret #3: Become Love. The author claims that people who

become love look at love as a choice rather than an emotion.

Choose to become a loving person by loving yoursel, eliminat-

ing sel-critical thoughts and then making loving relationshipswith others a priority by not being critical. Refect on these

instructions in Matthew 22:39 and Ephesians 4:32.

Secret #4: Live the Moment. Izzo claims it is important to

live ully in each moment, not looking back or orward or judging

each moment, but being alive in each moment with gratitude.

Consider this biblical measurement in Colossians 3:1-4.

Secret #5: Give More Than You Take. Last, Izzo encour-

ages you to nd a connection with others that is outside yoursel,

not ocusing on nding personal happiness, love, ame and

ortune, but in acts that improve the lives o others. Explore these

commands in Romans 12:10; Philippians 2:3; and, Acts 20:35.

Nagaland is a mountainous state in northwest India bordering

Myanmar, with the highest percentage o Baptists o any state in

the world. In 1875 an American Baptist missionary went there andsaw the gospel and the English language spread throughout the

country in 15 years. Our new national pastor is rom Nagaland and

working in an unreached people group in the Garhwal Himalaya

area. In the 3 years he has been there he has established an English

    medium school with

    over 90 children and

    still growing. He

    also completed an

    extensive survey o

    the 126 villages in

    the area which has

    a population over

50,000 and is 99% Hindu. Please pray or our national pastor

    T. Merang and his wie Anungla

as they teach at the school, lead

Bible studies and reach out to these

people that God loves. We hope to

start a pen pal program, so that FFC

children can write or email the students in the school, and also

help in possible building projects in the uture. How can the Lord

use FFC to make a dierence in this remote area o India?

wh Daily Family Prayer Guide? Each month a prayer guide is printed to help

YOU pray more eectively or our missionariesand their needs. Jean Crabbs, with the help o a

group o volunteers, reads through piles o mail

and writes current and urgent prayer requests

rom those we support. These can be picked up

in the literature racks throughout the church, put

into your Bible, and added to your daily prayer

time. What a GREAT way to get to know our

missionaries and become a part o ministries in

Des Moines and around the world!

the teens that I had a

big announcement. I shared with them the vision God placed

on my heart and, slowly but surely, the tickets began to sell. A

couple months into the process we had 710 o the tickets sold

and I wondered i I was overzealous. But then, suddenly the

tickets started disappearing and beore I knew it all 50 tickets

were sold AND I now have a waiting list because the Pershing

Center in Lincoln, Nebraska, where Dare 2 Share will be held, is

sold to capacity. We have 50 very excited teens and chaperones

and I pray that this will only enhance the ongoing renewal and

revival that is slowly growing amongst the teens in our youth

group. This ar ticle is a testimony o Gods goodness to ll those

spots and we will wait on Him to see what He does in each o

    BE EVANGELISTICALLY BOLDDARE 2 SHARE!

By Michael Howland, Youth PastorIn my years o youth ministry prior to being at

FFC, I have enjoyed taking my teens to the Dare

2 Share conerence. This conerence teaches the

teens an easy way to share their aith and provides

the teens with the opportunity to do that in the

community during the conerence itsel. There are

excellent speakers, worship leaders, and the teens are challenged

to get back to a Biblical worldview and to live as salt and light

in this dark world. The teens are also challenged to become

leaders in their own youth group and to serve as God has gited

them. This conerence has been invaluable, but every year a trend

seems to happen. I have promoted the conerence every year, and

a small percentage o the teens go, get red up or Christ, and

then come back to share their enthusiasm with their youth group

who did not get the same opportunity to catch all the excitement.

So this year, now that I am at FFC, I really elt God impress-

ing on me to take a step o aith. At a meeting to promote Dare

2 Share I elt led to get the core o our youth group, our regular

attendees, to all go. Rather than the traditional 20 30 tickets I

elt God asking me to pre-purchase 50 tickets. This was 6 months

P Y amLook how our suit o armor is

    increasing! Last Sunday the K-2nd

graders in KZ Church added the Shield

o Faith. Ephesians 6:16 says, In ad-

dition to all this, take up the shield o

aith, with which you can extinguish allthe faming arrows o the evil one.

The children learned that the shields

o old times were not made o metal,

but rather o wood covered by animal

skin. A good soldier knew that he must

take care o his shield each day by applying oil to the animal

skin to keep it moist. Then, when the enemy shot arrows which

had been set on re, the soldiers shield would remain strong and

    keep him protected.

A Christians shield o protection is aith, which means

believing in God even though we cant see Him and trusting that

He will do what He says. With a strong shield o aith, we can

extinguish Satans ery darts o worry, ear and doubt.

Are you caring or your shield o aith each day by praying

    and reading Gods Word?

Remember to Put on the ull armor o God so that you can

take your stand against the devils schemes.
