Panasonic Plasma technology advancement has resulted in 100,000 hours usage until the panel achieves 50% of the original brightness. The VIERA plasma panel offers a long service life of about 30 years or more, when watched for eight hours a day.

Eco ModeThe TV adjusts the picture settings automatically depending on the ambient lighting conditions. The image brightness changes according to the level of room lighting to achieve an energy-saving operation.

Mercury and Lead Free Plasma Display PanelPanasonic is conscious about the environment. That’s why the current range of VIERA Plasmas are lead-free and contain no mercury. This reduces the impact on the environment when recycling or disposing of them in the future.

VIERA TOUGH PANELFront glass panel provides high resistance to impacts. The front of the plasma TV is covered by a glass panel, for extra assurance just in case something hits it. What's more, the protective panel makes cleaning easier too; simply wipe the panel with a soft cloth when necessary.

Reduction of Lead ContentDuring 2006 approximately 4 million Plasma televisions were produced. Conventional Plasma TVs contain 70 grams of lead. This means that Panasonic avoided using 280 tones of lead for manufacturing Panasonic Televisions.

Also, by changing the damper of the woofer unit from cloth to rubber, the thickness has been reduced by 15 mm. This has made the entire speaker unit 38.7 mm slimmer.

The carbon material inside the speaker box is used to virtually increase the capacity (+50%) and improve low-frequency sounds (+13%) to achieve rich, dynamic bass.

"V-real" is the collective name for Panasonic's black-box imaging technologies, which have now evolved into the V-real 3 and V-real PRO 3 for the 2008/2009 VIERA models. In the process, we redesigned every V-real device. We combined technologies that were originally developed to produce the HD camcorders that relay the excitement of the Olympic Games with technologies that were created by the Panasonic Hollywood Laboratory (PHL) for moviemaking. Image quality was scrutinised from every angle to give VIERA its deeply moving impact.

This core, state-of-the-art device generates signals that comply with the newest video standards.

1080p Digital Processing Chip-Set*Panasonic's original chip-set processes high-resolution video signals in their native 1920 x 1080-pixel format, without down-conversion.

VIERA LCD - Digital Televisions Specifications

An image on a LCD or Plasma TV screen is created by many small groups of dots known as pixels (which is similar to the image in a newspaper). It also naturally follows that higher panel resolutions contain more pixels. By example, a TV with a HD panel resolution of 1366 x 768 has a pixel count of 1,049,088 pixels. Similarly, a Full-HD panel resolution of 1920 x 1080 contains 2,073,600 pixels. To create a colour image, each pixel consists of three tiny coloured dots (known as sub-pixels), one each of red, green and blue. This gives a total count in excess of six million individual dots manufactured into a Full-HD panel. Each one of these dots is precisely controlled by the electronics of the TV to produce the picture. Whilst Panasonic maintains the highest standards in manufacturing technology and processes in the construction of these panels, there are a number of allowable pixel/sub-pixel failures that still allow the panel to be defined as a good panel. It is not possible to guarantee absolutely no pixel loss.

Things to remember in-storeWhen choosing your ultimate big screen TV, it’s important to try before you buy, because noamount of research or hype can replace the simple experience of watching a TV in action.That said, we would suggest that you keep a few things in mind as you view and compare:

LightingThe lighting in electrical and homewares stores is typically several times brighter than that of the average home. A Plasma screen that does not appear bright in a store may well turn out to be perfectly suited for the darker, ambient conditions of your living room. An LCD screen that looks clear in the store could turn out to be unrealistically bright when you get it home. Remember, you watch TV at home not in a retail store.

Apples with applesIf you are comparing LCD and Plasma TVs side-by-side, ask the assistant to ensure that both are receiving the same source signal and that the connection type is the same (HDMI to HDMI or component to component).

Try different flavoursTry to view a number of different types of content, especially movies and sport, as its with these that the differences between the technologies are likely to appear - specifically response times and contrast ratios.

Keep your distanceThe optimum viewing experience for a large flat panel TV is not right up against the screen. When you are comparing screens in-store, take a step back and view them from a distance, as you would in your home.

Move aroundMake sure that you view the screens from different angles. Not every seat in your home will be directly in front of the screen, and you want to make sure that the picture retains its quality when viewed from different angles.

When comparing these features make sure you are comparing like for like.
