•Busan International Film Festival is one of the most significant film festivals in Asia The first festival, held September 1996, was also the first international film festival in Korea.
The focus of the BIFF is introducing new films and first-time directors, especially those from Asian countries.
Another notable feature is the appeal of the festival to young people, both in terms of the large youthful audience it attracts and through its efforts to develop and promote young talent.

The second largest city in Korea has changed its English name from Pusan to Busan to bring it in line with standard translation and a major Asian film Festival has now become known as the Busan International Film Festival.
In addition, the project market formerly known as the Pusan Promotion Plan (PPP) has been renamed the Asian Project Market (APM) as of 2011. With re-branding as a stepping-stone, the Busan International Film Festival will develop into a leading film festival.

•About Busan Cinema Center
The 16th BIFF in 2011 saw the festival move to a new permanent home, the Busan Cinema Center.
The Busan Cinema Center is a USD140 million structure designed by Austria-based architecture collective Coop Himmelblau.
The about 30,000 m² Cinema Center includes a 4,000-seat outdoor theatre; four indoor screens under an LED-covered roof; media centre; archive space; and conference rooms; allowing the festival to include industry forums and educational activities.
Since the first official discussion took place in 2004, the Busan Cinema Center has been under construction since 2008 and will finally be completed in September.
The Busan Cinema Center will function as an exclusive venue for screenings and events for the BIFF during the festival period, but also as a symbolic structure representing the film culture and business in Asia.
