CONVERSATION WITH THE COACHES

•Don’t walk directly to a coach after making a call. Go to your new officiating position

•Statements by coaches don’t normally need a response. Answer questions, not statements

•Control the dialogue

•Let the Coach ask a question first before speaking. Be a responder, not an initiator.

•Be in control. Speak in calm, easy tones. Be aware of your body language. Maintain positive and confident body language.

•Make eye contact when the situation allows.

•Do not try and answer a question from an out-of-control coach. Deal with the behavior first.

•Don’t bluff your way through a call.

•If a question has been asked or clarification requested, do not ignore a coach

•Deal with specific play or topic. “Coach is there a specific play you have a question about?”
