Academic Services The Academic Services staff has been created to enhance student-athletes’ development by providing the necessary support, counseling and resources to achieve academic, personal and athletic growth. Services provided include:» Academic Monitoring» Academic Progress Meetings/

Mid-term Reports» Registration Assistance

» Tutorial Assistance» CHAMPS/Life-skills Workshops» Referrals» Structured Study Hours in the Academic Center

Each student athlete signs a Buckley Amendment Release authorizing the Athletic Department to have access to their academic information. This allows

the Academic Support Staff to receive mid-term grades and progress reports from faculty members. Each student is then tracked to ensure eligibility andacademic progress. Members of the Academic Supportstaff discuss study skills, test-takingstrategies, time management and/orgoal setting with each student-athlete.Tutorial assistance is available free of charge for all student-athletes regardless of their current academic standing. Academic Services is seen as a liaison for many different departments. Any student needing additional assistance may be referred to the appropriate campus office, such as Disability Support Services, Student Health Center, Career Center, Counseling Center and Sports Medicine.

WEIGHT ROOM The number one objective of the Oakland University Strength and Conditioning Program is to achieve the maximal level of performance of each student-athlete while reducing the occurrence of athletic injuries through a sport specific program that is designed and administered by a member of the Oakland staff. Training programs are designed to increase an athlete’s strength, speed, agility, flexibility, conditioning and explosiveness, all important components in the developing a highly-skilled collegiate athlete. With the assistance of Beaumont Hospital and the OU H.E.A.L.S (Healthy, Eating and Living Support Team) program, the strength staff is able to individualize each athlete’s workout in order to achieve optimal results. The Oakland University program provides workouts with periodization and a wide range of exercises to challenge the athlete in each workout. The Oakland University Strength and Conditioning staff challenges each athlete to bring an attitude of hard work, accountability and total effort to each workout so that the athlete will improve both physically and mentally.
