2009 Tri-Cities Wine Festival Judges Keith Bown is vice president, winemaking, for Vincor Canada, wit responsibilities for wineries such as Inniskillin, Jackson-Triggs and Sumac Ridge. He is a Roseworthy College, South Australia, graduate and has more than 20 years winemaking experience, including in Australia, New Zealand, England and the United States and extensive judging experience in Australia and internationally, including for London’s International Wine & Spirit Competition an International Wine Challenge. Keith has won numerous wine awards, including: Best English Wine, 1996, and Best Australian Wine Producer, 1999, International Wine & Spirit Competition; 2002 Governor’s Cup, Best Wine in New Jersey; Double Golds, 2003 Tasters Guild Consumer Wine Competition and 2004 International Eastern Wine Competition; and, regional and international awards, 2006 Decanter Wine Awards. Since May 2008, he and his wife, Linn, have lived in Niagara on the Lake, Ontario. Don Galleano is a third generation Southern California winegrower and owner of Galleano Winery, the producer of Old Vine Cucamonga Valley Wines. His current affiliations in the wine industry are as a professional wine judge in international wine competitions, a board member of the Wine Institute, a professional member of the American Society of Enology and Viticulture and a Foundation Member of the Los Angeles County Fair and Wine Competition Steering Committee. Richard Larsen is a plant pathologist, Washington State University/U.S. Department of Agriculture research station, Prosser Wash. Since moving from North Carolina to Washington in 1990, he has been actively involved with the state’s wine industry. Richar is a professional member of the American Society of Enology and Viticulture, and periodically conducts wine sensory training and evaluation seminars. He has been a judge on panels for numerous regional wine competitions, including the Tri-Cities Wine Festival.

Coke Roth is a Tri-Cities, Wash., native. Prior to becoming anattorney, Coke ran the Tri-Cities branch of his family’s beer andwine distributorship for close to two decades. He is the Tri-CitiesWine Festival’s founding chairman and has continued hisinvolvement in various capacities over the years. In 2005, hereceived the honorary “Friend of the Festival” award in recognitionof his service and contributions. Since the 1970s, Coke has beenjudging wine at major fairs and festivals – regionally, nationally andinternationally. He conducts wine and food education classes, haswritten wine-related

articles and is a tasting panelist for Wine Press Northwest magazine, which gives him the opportunity toevaluate several thousand wines each year. This year he will serve as a facilitator and judge liaisonduring the judging process. Coke and his wife, Mary, live in Richland, Wash., with their daughter,Soleil.

Lane Hoss is the Vice President for Marketing And Beverage forAnthony’s Restaurants. Active in the food and wine industry forover thirty years, beginning as a Captain and Wine Steward for theEdgewater Inn in Seattle, Washington, Lane’s current positioncombines her skills in marketing with her knowledge of thebeverage arena of the hospitality industry. Lane coordinatesAnthony’s wine selections, costing, promotion and service training.

Lane has served on numerous wine-industry committees includingthe Washington Wine Commission’s World Vinifera Conferences”Steering Committee and was chair of the Washington Athletic ClubWine Committee. She participates as a judge for numerous winecompetitions and on tasting panels for various publications.

Lane was awarded the 1995 Restaurateur of the Year award by the Washington Wine Commission. Atthe 2003 Washington Wine Restaurant Awards, Anthony’s was awarded the Washington Wine FirstAward and Lane was the first recipient of the Walter Clore Honorarium Award. Anthony’s wineprogram has been recognized each year by the commission with awards including Best Events FeaturingWashington Wine, Best Out of State Wine Program, Winemaker’s Choice Award and Washington WineGrand Award. Anthony’s wine program has also been recognized by Wine Press Northwest and theWashington Association of Grape Growers.

Michael Moyer is the Instructor of Wine Science at Walla WallaCommunity College, as well as the Winemaker for College Cellarsof Walla Walla.  Michael has 10 years of production experiencewith small wineries. He has made wine in Amador County, NapaValley and Sonoma County.  He graduated with a BA from theUniversity of Puget Sound and is a Master of Science in Viticultureand Enology from the University of California, Davis.  In 1992, heearned his wine tasting diploma from the Comité Interprofessionneldes Vins de Bourgogne in Dijon, France.
