Will drinkable water ever disappear ?

The answer to the question «When wil l the drinkable water ressources dissappear?»

Is never. Never the ressources wil l dissapear unless there is a cosmical catastrophe which

would ruin humanity. Because in fact water on earth is what we call renewable source. It 's the sun who provoques the evaporation of the sea

water (salt water), which does a disti l lation operation that produces atmospheric «drinkable

water»(the one that we see as clouds).

Page 4: 20091126 Fr Group02

This water fal ls as rain on earth and forms by running and concentration the important r ivers and underground water. This water is used by men for different uses, as well as animals and by plants. A

l itt le part is consumed or absorbed, the essential is rejected and goes back to the seas and the cycle

starts again. Our earth is a huge purifying and recycling drinkable water machine.

So, drinkable water wil l never disapear from earth. This doesn't mean we wil l never be missing. Because the needs

are higher than the ressources easily mobil izable.

So water isn't l ike petroleum even though there is this comparison. One day, there won't be any petroleum on earth

but there wil l always be drinkable water. Unless the water natural cycle would stop which is hardly imaginable. However

there wil l always be regions on the globe who wi l l be, if we can say it, too much water compared to other regions who do not

have enough. Even in the regions where there is a lot, it 's better not to waste it only because it 's rarely avai lable without

spending energy. Final ly collecting water to distribute it, evacuate it, treating and purifying the “used” water has also a

cost.

What is and will be the cost of water?

In Europe the average cost of water is 3,04 euros per cubic litre. In 2005 there was 19,4 million of cubic meters of water used every day.In 2009 33,7 million of cubic meters.Scientists say that the world's uses in drinkable water in 2015 will go up to 54,5 million meters per day !

Desalination of seawater is an important issue for the future of drylands

The cleansing of water is a process that al lows you to get drinkabe water from a sour or salted water. It is rarely used to take the salt out of the water but taking the drinkable water out of the salted water. Generally it 's easier and more economical to look for drinkable water resources to treat ( surface water, such as lakes and rivers or underground water), than desal inate sea water. However in a lot of regions of the world, the drinkable water resources are non-existent or becoming insufficient for the demographical increase or the industrial production.

Page 9: 20091126 Fr Group02

There will always be drinkable water on earth, but we will someday be in need, and the prices will increase so we must trie not to wast water.
